I have the best weather app, Dark Skies. I am looking for an app that will show me historical weather data by day, or something close to it. My ideal app would show me today, the record temps, and then just historical data for the date. E.g., the temp last year, the year before, in 1964, etc. I'm most interested in temperature data, but other stuff like precipitation would be great too. I feel like some enterprising soul must have made an app like this.
I just bought an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. Looking for suggestions for the best apps for (1) lecturing in the classroom and (2) serving as a research notebook. [more inside]
Looking for iPad apps and learning games for a four-year-old. [more inside]
I'm upgrading from an older 64 GB iPad to a new 32 GB one, so I need to shrink my data; especially stop storing large, seldom-used apps on the device (I can re-download from App Store when needed). What's the best way to keep a handy list of certain specified off-device apps, each linked to its App Store page for convenient re-downloading? [more inside]
I may be chasing an imaginary beast, but here goes: I'm looking for an app for my iPad Pro and all its screen real estate that will allow me to take text (whether copied in or written in the app) and link text/graphic files and comments to individual words of the text. Ideally, this will also support Pencil/stylus entry so I can link sketches or handwritten notes to individual words as well. [more inside]
I like to listen to albums and playlists from my music collection on my iPhone. I don't need a streaming service, or radio, or recommendations, or social networks. I just want a simple user interface that lets me pick out an album (or maybe a playlist) and listen to it. Does such a thing exist for iOS? The built-in music app has gotten way too complicated, and does not work well for me or my family. [more inside]
The title says it all, with two caveats: 1. Don't want to have to enter in all the passwords to various password protected apps. Number two is below the fold. [more inside]

The kids are getting too much screen time, and I am tired of chasing them down to surrender the iPad, setting passcodes, etc. Is there an app or setting that will permit iPad use *only* during specific recurring periods? Or is there an app that will let me specify which apps can be used during specific recurring periods? [more inside]

I'm heading to graduate school soon and I'm trying to develop good habits and a good routine in preparation for that change. I've never been good with physical planners (I lose them or forget to write in them) but I always have my iPad so I'm trying to find an app that meets my needs and could use some input. [more inside]
I've recently acquired some new toys that I'm not getting any use out of because of my unusually strong hatred of spyware, adware, and "social networking". Specifically, I've had a new Moto G phone for about two weeks, an iPad mini for a few months and a Macbook Pro for about two years. I'm not getting any enjoyment or use out of these tools because I need help configuring them in such a way that they don't bother me with social networking noise and spyware-related crap. Please help. [more inside]

Flying in the face of scientists' warnings, my wife and I allow our child to play with the iPad from time to time. She's outgrown most of the apps she previously played with -- does anyone have any recommendations for good puzzle, games, and educational apps that would be age-appropriate and interesting for a twenty-month-old? Thanks.
I have an iphone. Today I will be getting a MotoX. I don't really know a lot about smartphones in general or Android in general (or hell, even ios really) except that I assume there are going to be a few hiccups in the transition. Help me avoid those hiccups! [more inside]
I'd like to meditate more. I have the Simply Be app and like it, but would like to try others. MeFites, what do you recommend?
This post about gadget fatigue on the blue prompted this question. I just bought the most recent iteration of the iPad. I have an old iPhone and an even older MacBook Pro, and after less than 24 hours with the iPad, I’m getting the impression that the it's superfluous to my life. Please present arguments to the contrary, so that I can make up my mind whether to return it. (I've read this Ask, and this Ask, and this Ask, but the tech changes so quickly that much of what is suggested there is dated, and plenty more apps/uses have come about since those were posted.) The baby machine, a small boy of 15 months, and I will be taking our first flight in a couple of weeks and I'm freaking out just a little about keeping him entertained for the time at the airport as well as the 2 hours that we're on the plane. We don't do a lot of screen time as he's pretty little but I was thinking that if we there were some fun apps he could play with as part of our entertainment package (!) for the journey. Hi there, I'm teaching my Dad in China to use his Chinese App Store account - His iPhone and iPad Mini are his MAIN cameras these days, and he loves taking photos. I'm a bit rushed as I have to leave China soon, and don't have to time to search through Chinese app reviews (I don't know Chinese well anyway). So, please can you recommend any iPhone and iPad camera and photo apps (paid or free) available on the Chinese App Store that you love. Impressive apps are good; Impressive AND easy to learn and use apps (my Dad is not very tech-skilled and doesn't like complicated instructions) are the greatest. Thanks very much for your tips!!!
After a lot of research, I am having trouble finding an affordable, trustworthy financial app (iPad) designer, Boston area a plus. Any suggestions?
What are some good games that I can play while offline? I've seen this question but I am looking specifically for games. I know I can download books and stuff. I want to PLAY! On an airplane. Without paying for Internet. Help me out.
I've been tasked for setting up my older friend's iPad with useful apps, and while I have some ideas, I also don't have an iPad myself.... Please advise! [more inside]
I use an app on my iPhone and iPad called AppShopper to keep a list of iOS apps I'd like to buy. It tracks them and sends a push notification when their price changes (or when there's an update to the app). Is there another app like that out there that tracks movies, music and TV shows (and maybe apps) on the iTunes Store? If there's no app, is there a website that does this?
I recently started using Onlive Plus and like it a lot. But I'm stuck on one thing. Once I have downloaded and edited a Dropbox file in Onlive, how do I get the file back to Dropbox? The Onlive FAQ says, "After you edit a file, save it and upload it to Dropbox," but I can't figure out how to accomplish the upload from within Onlive. And my google-fu is failing me. Thanks in advance.

My father is 91, speaks English and an avid TV-viewer. He had never been into word games or games like Sudoku or board games. He used to play golf till his early eighties. .From the mini- metal state test he has moderate dementia and we are hoping that together with the Aricept that he is on, some 'engaging' apps ( as someone put it ) might stave off deterioration of his cognitive functions. Getting mom an iPad. She says she wants a camera connector (she has a Canon EOS 40D) and "Photoshop" for it. She uses Photoshop on her iMac. I see Photoshop Express and Photoshop Tools. I'm trying to figure out if a iPad is what I'm looking for to help me reduce my physical books, particularly cookbooks and printed (from the internet) recipes. Are there any mobile apps that support community/collaborative remix? Apps that go beyond your own social network (i.e. Facebook/Twitter sharing), but post to their own public community. There are thousands of sites like that on the web, but the only ones I can find on iOS are Mixel and Make Pixel Art, and that seems crazy.

What is the best solution for blogging with an iPad? Is anyone actually doing this? I'd like to be able to travel with just an ipad and a bluetooth keyboard instead of my laptop. What I need: CC photo search and image resizing, the ability to easily add links, and upload to a wordpress blog to which I'm a contributor. Blogsy looks pretty good. What say you Metafilterers? Doable? Pipe dream? Be honest.
I can't be the only person on Metafilter who's succumbed to temptation and gotten their new iPad today. So now that I have it, what apps will make it extra awesome? [more inside]
Frequently I notice that iPhone/iPad apps initially go on sale initially at a reduced price. Moog's Animoog app, for example, debuted for a limited time at $0.99 and now costs $30. Obviously this is a strategy to get buzz and positive reviews. However, I'm bummed for missing this deal. Are there any websites that give the reader a heads up on killer apps that have just come out and which are being offered for practically nothing?
What are iOS apps like Snapseed and Filterstorm, but for video — to add basic effects and color correct videos shot with iPad, iPhone? VideoFX Live doesn't do the job because it only allows shooting new videos, not edit existing.
