I just read about the Copia app, that connects markets and restaurants with "left over" food to shelters and organizations that feed people in need. This is the best example of my question. What is it called when you have X (service, tangible) and are using technology to share it with people in need of X? And vice versa (you need X and use technology to find it). Is there anyone writing about this and/or studying this particular use of technology? [more inside]
I like to journal using lists / task applications - right now I'm using GoogleTasks which with over 1k lines is getting clunky and hard to use, e.g. I'll copy from one list and paste to another the cursor'll jump up to the top of the list just before I hit paste - drives me bonkers! [more inside]
I see lots of writing submissions trackers, such as Duotrope and Assignmint, and job application trackers like Huntsy and StartWire. Is there a web app that helps me track multiple kinds of submissions? [more inside]
I have to take medicine within a certain window every day, and while I'm getting used to it, I'd love to have an app for Android (or other great solution) with a notification that doesn't disappear until I acknowledge I've taken my medicine and that will notify me when its time to take it. If anyone knows of any app with this functionality, that'd me amazing - I've looked at alarm clock and checklist apps, but they either don't capture the time-sensitive nature of this or disappear as soon as I look at the notification. Thanks, metafilter!
I have a couple web forms I'd like to make: one for a professional purpose, another for personal use (though that could exist as a program or an app that I don't know about). Is it better to find a service that will allow you to build conditional forms, or can they be made from scratch with some ease? [more inside]
I bought a new macbook and it came with a £70 ($110) gift card for use in iTunes, iBookstore, and Mac App store. I have a Macbook air, iPad 3 and iPhone 4, and I'm definitely not making full use of any of them, especially the iPad. I know I can sell it but I'd rather see if there's anything I could use it for first. What should I use the gift card for? [more inside]
I recently bought a Nexus 7 (I love it!) as a companion to academic work. I've primarily been using Google apps for communication and collaboration over Drive and Gmail, in addition to traditional tablet tasks like web browsing and social media. However I'm less than impressed with the bundled PDF reader, and would really like suggestions (first) about good .pdf reading software that allows for rich annotations in documents. Secondly, I'm interest in any productivity apps for Android tablets that others have used for academic / writing / office style work. [more inside]
My son is 10 years old and going into 5th grade in the fall (but he usually does 6th grade math). He likes Stack the States, and we're looking for a math app with similar appeal. We already have Sushi Monster and his younger sister loves it, but I'd like something more challenging for him.
I bought my son a low-end Android tablet and now I want to load it up with quality applications. I'm looking for equal parts entertainment, education, and beautiful UI. [more inside]
So I am now an owner of the Samsung Chromebook 3 (yup, "The $249 laptop from Google"). It fits, well enough, what I need, and it's definitely what I can afford. (I have access to a laptop at work.) [more inside]

Looking for a user friendly way to let people sign up for an email newsletter at a live event. Other than forcing them to enter their emails right into the right website, how can I simplify the current process of a person writing their email down, and a different person writing it into a spread sheet, and then someone else uploading the emails into the newsletter system? Is there an iPad app for this? [more inside]

I'm interested in developing iPhone/iPod Touch applications, however my understanding is the SDK only works in OSX. I have a XP desktop and a Vista notebook with an AMD Athlon and Turion (both dual core) respectively, both pretty good machines. Is there any way to avoid spending serious cash buying a Mac just to get into iPhone development?
I want a windows application that can give me international times - I contact people in Europe on occasion - and I don't remember what time it is in Dublin or London. Is there a small app that can do this for me? [more inside]
