Keyboard Remapping in XP

I'm already to used to my new Mac's keyboard. Unfortunately, I have to use XP at work. Is there a (preferably free) keyboard remapping program for XP? The only one I've found is a six buck download via PCmag.com.

Group/Permissions oddness in Tiger

I just cannot change the group of my Music folder. I created a new group called "music" as a first step towards allowing my SO to share my iTunes library directly. I try to set the Music folder (and its contents) to being part of "music", but no dice. The "get info" window says that it's changed. But as soon as I click the lock to prevent further changes, it switches back to the group of me. If I close the get info window and don't hit the lock, then call up get info again, I see that the attempted group change hasn't stuck. I also cannot change the group ID to "admin." As root, it doesn't work either, but then I get a mysterious error called "-60002." chgrp doesn't work from the shell, either. Is this a known bug or am I missing something?

Microsoft Office Keyboard on an iBook

Old Mac Memory

Having recently splashed out on a nice black PowerMac 5500/275, I want to upgrade the RAM. I'm aware that it takes 168pin, 5v EDO DRAM (up to two 64mb DIMMS), but finding these in the UK is tough. I won two 64mb chips on eBay at 1p, but they're the wrong voltage. Anyone know a (cheap) supplier of the stuff here in England?

Mac Processor Upgrade

This old Mac: My 450 Mhz G4 has held up for about 5 years now. I was on the market for a new iMac G5, but as we Mac people will be wanting to upgrade to intel machines in a couple years, this seems like an unwise purchase (the Osborne effect and all). So I'm thinking a processor upgrade might be a good stopgap. Anyone have any experience with this?

Remote desktop client for OS X

I use a Mac @ home. One of the things I've loved about Windows (gasp) is the Remote Desktop Client: an efficient, elegant, and free way to connect and use your desktop. Is there an equivalent tool for OS X such that I could connect to my home Mac (not w/ SSH, but the desktop) from any number of the Windows boxes I occasionally use?

iPod Screen

Horror of horrors, I dropped my iPod Mini face down onto a hardwood floor, and the screen is now dead. Everything else seems to be fine (audio feedback when using the scroll wheel is present, the unit plays, mounts, etc.), and the screen itself isn't cracked. Apple has told me that they would be happy to sell me another, but beyond that they don't have much else to say. What are my options? Has anyone used and been happy with a third party repair service?

Powerbook G5's... When o' when... What's your plan?

Anyone else on the verge of making the switch to Mac land (or upgrading)? Everywhere i've seen rumored they are saying 2nd Q for the G5 powerbooks... What do you guys think? I'd rather not repeat my mistake of getting the Canon Rebel right before the new one came out (d'oh!).. So I'm thinking about waiting for the G5 to appear and either get the low end one or a used (or new) G4 assuming the prices drop. Given that being a gadgetfreak if you're always waiting for the next big thing you'll never end up buying anything... but seems like it could be soon hmmm?

How do I convert an Army certificate into a format OS X understands?

Army Knowledge Online is a webmail/pop email service that any current or former US Army member can use in order to have a .mil address. I've been using it for a while, but for going on three years now I can't get Mail.app (and the keychain) to accept its security certificate. The normal way of importing a self-signed certificate doesn't work under Jaguar, Panther, or Tiger- I can import the cert, but nothing happens. I've tried setting up a new "root" certificate. Nothing works. Apple discussion boards have been useless. Can someone look at this certificate (try going here and it will send you the cert) and maybe tell me what's going on? I think it's in some odd format that prevents it from being imported.

Powerbook heat tolerances or "It burns! It burns!"

My Powerbook (15" G4 1.25 Ghz) is criminally hot. apple ibook

My uncle needs a new computer and wants to spend about $1000 on a laptop. I suggested an Apple iBook 12" as it would fit that budget and be less prone to viruses and spyware than his current Windows machine. This machine apparently has slowed down a lot and my guess would be due to a lot of spyware at the very least (he uses IE I think). My questions pertain to software included and needed and ease of use of the computer [MI]. [more inside]

Safari + Google = no tabbed browsing

I'm having a strange problem with Safari and Google: if I run a google search and command-click on a result (to open it in a new tab) about 90% of the time it will open in the main tab, thus only allowing me to click through to one result at a time. This makes me very unhappy, as I loved using tabs to quickly sort through search results. I haven't had any problems using command-click on other sites. [more inside]

Do I Wait For The Powerbook G5?

So when is the Powerbook G5 really coming out? I have been a lifelong PC user, but I want to get a laptop as my next computer and after using several of my friends' Powerbooks I was sold on buying one. However, it seems like there's conflicting information and advice on (a) whether I should buy the revised G4 PB or wait for the G5 (which could have some quirks upon initial release), (b) whether I really need the power of of a G5 in my laptop, and (c) when the hell the thing is even coming out.
