I like to listen to albums and playlists from my music collection on my iPhone. I don't need a streaming service, or radio, or recommendations, or social networks. I just want a simple user interface that lets me pick out an album (or maybe a playlist) and listen to it. Does such a thing exist for iOS? The built-in music app has gotten way too complicated, and does not work well for me or my family. [more inside]
I'm thinking of replacing my current 3+ year old Mac mini workstation for a 2015 27" iMac 5k but after doing some research I think the 2013 Mac Pro might make more sense. [more inside]
It's time to buy some more lovely Apples. Can you help me decide which exact models of iPad or Air + iPhone to buy? [more inside]

I'm about to make the move from an iPhone to a Nexus 5X running Android. If you've made the iOS to Android switch recently, what was your experience like? What surprised you? What confused you? What did you forget to think about and do that you wish you had?
The title says it all, with two caveats: 1. Don't want to have to enter in all the passwords to various password protected apps. Number two is below the fold. [more inside]
My spouse and I own an 27-inch iMac from 2011. Recently, the screen seemed to go briefly haywire and then black. Now, when the computer is turned on, it seems to boot fine, but nothing can be seen on the screen (the flashlight trick did not help). Is there a way to make the computer mirror itself to another monitor at startup so that we can access its contents? [more inside]
In the “Steve Jobs” script by Aaron Sorkin, there is a little exchange between Jobs and Sculley in which the former says that the name “Apple” came from a “list of friendly-sounding words”. Regardless of why Apple is named Apple, do such lists exist? Is there any research on what makes a word sound friendly to people (phonetically, semantically, aurally, visually, ...)?
I just bought a new MacBook Air and I'm going to be giving my MacBook Pro to my dad. He will be a Mac newbie, so I'm going to end up being the "tech support" person. [more inside]
Is there an easy way to track hours, tasks or projected completed, and also be able to add notes in a single app? [more inside]
It's phone upgrade time and I'm looking to switch out my 5S for the 6s+. I'm really excited about the larger battery life but am concerned that it's too huge for daily use. Am I better off getting the 6s? [more inside]
My wife is interested in buying an off-contract new iphone and switching to MVNO service but I have questions about compatibility of the two different models. Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
I am a Windows PC/Android person to the teeth, have never used any Apple hardware or software other than iTunes in my life, and am now suddenly in the position of having to use an iPhone 4S running iOS 8 as my main phone for the indefinite future. Everything about the iPhone is deeply confusing to me. Is there a way for me to recreate the Android (Lollipop) experience? If not, can you help me learn how to adjust? [more inside]
I've been shooting a long series of time lapse images at my job, where we're doing a massive tear down and build. The whole process will be roughly 7 weeks long total, for 8-10 hours a day, 5-7 days a week, one shot per minute for each of two cameras. Up until this point, I've been using iMovie to assemble the initial images in series, spitting video out and then loading it into the GoPro studio app and speeding it up 800-1000% (this will be used in a show and can't be longer than perhaps two minutes). I use Baydin's Email Game (https://emailgame.baydin.com/) to process email. I just got a new job, and my new company is requiring me to use Outlook Express or Apple Mail instead of gmail. Baydin's website only works with gmail or with Google Apps. So I'm looking for some kind of plug-in or add-on for Express or Apple Mail that has similar functionality to the Email Game--especially a timer showing how long I've spent on each email. Does anybody know of anything like this?
I have a Maxtor BlackArmor 250GB external hard drive. I'd like to plug it into my Apple Airport device that serves our house's WiFi. Ultimately, I want to be able to put Plex Media Server on it so we can watch movies and listen to music. How do I make this happen? [more inside]
Yesterday my mid-2012 MacBook Air got the dreaded flashing question mark and "drive not found" text upon startup. Fortunately, I had a Time Machine backup, and I was able to get the computer running (for now - knock on wood). When I was researching the problem, I noticed that this generation of MacBook Air has issues with its SSD, and Apple will replace the drive at no charge within three years of purchase. To diagnose the issue, Apple's website says, you must install the "Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1" from the App Store. Problem is, that update isn't there anymore... [more inside]
So, I am finally giving up my last personal connection to Microsoft, my home PC running Windows 7 Home Premium, and switching to a really gorgeous iMac. Everything else in my life -- phone, tablet, watch, and laptop -- are already Apple. What preparations should I engage in while waiting for the new iMac to be delivered? And what do you recommend for smoothly getting my data (photos, documents, Quicken file, etc.) from my PC to my new Mac? And is there anything else you would advise I do as I make the transition? Many thanks.
I dropped my iPhone. The screen cracked. Can I take it into an Apple Store and have them fix it there? Or do I need to send it in to them for repair? Hoping to do this same day if possible. I'm in NYC if relevant.
The stock drive on my mid 2011 mac mini, model 5,2, recently became a brick. So, I got the idea I would create a fusion drive using a 120gb SSD and 1tb HDD. When I start the machine in (command+R) recovery mode, the SSD and HDD appear as separate drives. I had been expecting for disk utility to list the drives in RED with the option to "fix". How can I turn these two drives into a fusion drive? Is a Fusion drive even necessary? (~more info below~) [more inside]
My question, in a sentence, is this: given that my app works perfectly, what is a reasonable cost to pay someone else to place it or post it in the app store? [more inside]

I own a 2008 macbook pro which is still doing okay, but I have been running through power adapters like mad. I've had two of the inexpensive knockoff variety quit in the last year, but the expensive apple-brand ones don't seem any better. What should I do? [more inside]
I'm trying to migrate from an old iMac to a new MacBook Pro, using Migration Assistant over wifi. It stalls out at "Less than a minute remaining." Apparently this is a common problem. Are there any workarounds - for example, backing up to an external disk and connecting that disk to the new computer? I do have Time Machine but it hasn't backed up in about 2 weeks (a different problem I've been dealing with). The old iMac has USB and Firewire ports; the new Pro has USB and Thunderbolt.

Suddenly, when I use my finger on my iPhone (in some circumstances, but not others, and confusingly timed), a red dot shows up. I don't think I did anything to make this happen, but it happens fairly frequently. I've tried to google but can't find an answer on point. Thanks!
I like my Apple Watch so far. But the #1 reason I got it was to take it with me on long bike rides so I could see speed/distance/time at a glance. To my chagrin, after a short time out the cycling app quits, so when I glance down I see the watch face. And because I'm riding I can't swipe around to get back to the app. Surely there's a way to fix this? Or is the OS design that foolish?
I used to own only a Fitbit Charge wristband. Now I own the Fitbit and an Apple Watch. But as the Apple Watch doesn't have an official sleep tracking function, currently I have to wear the Fitbit to bed to track sleep, and then use the Sync Solver apps to synchronise sleep data and fitness data between Fitbit and Apple. It's all a bit of a kludge. Is there a way to hack the Apple Watch into tracking my sleep patterns? [more inside]
Apple recently contacted me to license one or more of my images. What can/should I expect from this transaction? Have you had an image licensed by Apple, and if so, what was your experience like? This is for a studio photo and not an "I took this with my iPhone" image. [more inside]
Husband just dumped a glass of water over the keyboard of his MacBook Air. It immediately shut itself off/ went dead. There is water dripping dripping out of the ports on the right side. What do we do?
I have 2 problems with my apple devices. Can you help? I am not tech savvy and its not a good time for me to replace devices. 1) I just upgraded my software on my Ipad 2 and now the safari is so slow its unusable- is there anything I can do? I have done all the standard things like delete apps and stop excess things running and done a hard reset. Can I downgrade back to IOs 7? That's the last time it ran well. 2) My safari on my Iphone 5 has started getting pop up ads that force open my app store right when I am in the middle of reading. Again, I feel like I have tried everything, I even reset all my settings. Tried to block the websites. What can I do? [more inside]

I can't remember much about it but I'm trying to remember the name of a Classic Mac-era program that let you create animations in the black-and-white style of Dark Castle. It came with a demo that scrolled and had funny stuff happening in it.
I rely on Apple's Spotlight search to find files on my MacBook Pro, because I am so bad at organising stuff into folders. But recently, it hasn't been working. I look for a word I know is in the file contents – like a Word doc – and it simply doesn't show up in the Spotlight results. I've tried re-indexing Spotlight but it hasn't helped. [more inside]

My old laptop died, and I purchased a new laptop. I was able to recover the purchased songs from my itunes account, and they show up on my new laptop in my itunes library. I'm trying to find an old Apple II educational game we used to play in school in the early to mid-eighties. Played in a first-person perspective, it involved puzzles that you had to solve in order to advance from room to room. I remember there being a wine cellar at one point, but not much more than that. I've looked in the Internet Archive and Wikipedia's lists of games, to no avail. This has been driving me nuts for years - any help would be appreciated!

My vintage 2008 Macbook is eagerly gazing at the pasture that has been beckoning it for a few years now. I have replaced the hard-drive and maxed out the RAM, but the poor little guy is simply ready for a well-deserved rest. So - what's next for me and when? Macbook Pro? Air? iMac? iPad? Difficulty level: incorporating moderate music production, Netflix, general web use, somewhat limited funds, and massive over-thinking. [more inside]

I recently upgraded my MacBook Air to Yosemite. Everything seems to be fine, except for the fact that my iPhones text messages now happen on my computer (I think this is the continuity feature?). Anyway, I want this to stop. Of course, I Googled it before I posted, here, but the fixes that I found, don't appear to be relevant (they were from 2014 and probably from Mavericks). For example, one fix suggested opening the Messages app on your Mac (which I did) and open the Preferences menu, which I don't see. Can anyone help me stop this?? Thanks!
