I'm looking for an itunes plugin for OS X that will let me have a playlist separate from my library that would monitor a folder. The goal is to have a folder of new music on my computer and have it automatically loaded into itunes without having to add the songs to the actual library. Limewire does something like this for its download folder in windows, but I'd rather not install a whole program to do something like this. Any ideas?

Having switched to a Mac (love it!) and bought an Apple TV, I have used the Elgato Turbo.264 to covert a few years of TV/video to the H.264 mp4 format. When I try to import it to iTunes to use with Apple TV, only about half the files will add to library. All of the files open with Quicktime, and there is no error message from iTunes, they just don't add! [more inside]

What's the best way to turn an iTunes (Mac) playlist into a self-contained Flash player that will play the music in that playlist? It seems like someone should have already figured this out and created some kind of script that can do it, but I haven't been able to find any such thing.

Can someone with an Apple TV tell me something? When you listen to a music track on your Apple TV, does the play count of the song in the relevant iTunes library increase?

I just received my new Airport Extreme. I'm eager to make use of its ability to connect to a USB drive. I'd like to transfer most of my data — songs, movies, and TV shows, in particular — to this drive, and then use it as a central repository for most of my Macs. But these computers already have existing iTunes libraries. What's the easiest way to make this transition? What's the best way? [more inside]

iTunes puts cover art in one of two places: embedded within the MP3s, or in a separate folder (~/Music/iTunes/Album Artwork). I prefer the latter. Is there a program that will take the embedded cover art out of my files and store it in the Album Artwork folder instead? I'm on an Intel Mac.

A fairly simple iPod/iTunes question—when I plug in the iPod, I would like the browser on iTunes to automatically be there (so I don't have to press apple + b), and I'd like it to be arranged by album, by year (so I don't have to click the "year" field every time). Is this possible? Is there a setting that I'm missing?

Any way around these two (Mac) iTunes annoyances? First, iTunes apparently cannot remember my password for "Check for Purchases". Second, iTunes always jumps the focus back to the next song it's playing despite how much further down I'm browsing and adding songs to playlists. [more inside]

So the new Itunes 7 was just released but I am a little wary. Is there anyplace I can go (or keep my eye on) to see what, if any, restrictions have been introduced by the new Itunes. I am thinking things like Network-sharing (incompatibility with Ourtunes?), Limits on how many times you can burn, etc.? Or will I just have to watch and wait?

How much does iTunes know about mp3s I add to my library? I buy from emusic; download the occasional podcast; and get stuff from archive.org--nothing from the iTunes store, ever. I have iTunes 5 installed on two machines, one at work, one at home, with my iPod set to sync automatically to the iTunes library on my home machine. When using iTunes 4.x, I was able to attach my iPod to my work machine and then configure the iPod (in the iTunes preferences) to 'manually' update, rather than automatically, enabling me to play files directly off my iPod on my work machine. When I returned to my home machine, I would switch the home machine's iTunes/iPod settings back to 'update automatically', causing iTunes to update the files on the home machine with a new Last Played date and Play Count. iTunes 5, however, seems to have a bug in this regard: it notes a random 10 or 15-song selection of tracks played via the work machine's iTunes 5, but that's all. A day's worth of listening to tracks isn't logged as played, messing up Smart Playlists that grab music I haven't heard in a while. 1) Is this unusual or universal 2) Any fixes? [more inside]

Every once in a while, my iTunes just seems to start playing without any reason (I have it running in the background with no music playing). This seems to happen when I mis-type something, leading me to think there's maybe some weird key-combo set to "Start playing music in iTunes", but there's no such setting possible, afaik. There's nothing in the CD-Drive, either. If it's any help, i'm on a Mac mini.

Waugh! (Pronounced the Snoopy way or the Evelyn way.) My iTunes will no longer burn AAC files onto CD. I've followed Fearless Leader's lead and de-DMRed all my Apple Music Store purchases with hymn, but I can't burn protected songs that have been hymned, protected songs that haven't been hymned or unprotected songs that used to be hymned. (I guess I didn't try an AAC rip since I mostly rip to mp3, so there's a missing data point.) When I go to burn a playlist, it deselects all the AAC tracks, although it will burn mp3s made from unprotected AAC files. Does anyone know what's up? Is there another Mac app for making audio CDs from AAC files? I'm not much of an audiofile, but don't want to go through the quality loss of converting 128 kbps AAC to 128 kbps mp3 for all these songs.

I'd like my iTunes to look at a library stored on an external drive. Unfortunately, every time I think I've got it doing that, it turns out iTune's just copied the contents of that directory onto my computer. Is there any way/thing out there to solve this?

PC verson of iTunes: all my mp3 & aac files are on my C drive, which is almost full. I want to lighten the load on that drive by moving all the songs to my E drive, which has much more space. Is there a way to do this without wrecking iTune's database? I don't want to have to re-import everything.

In iTunes, why do songs I uncheck not play during shuffled playback? I just want to uncheck songs I don't want on the iPod and let 'em play normally in the library. It's easier than making a playlist for the iPod each time I add new albums. Alternatively, how do you manage your library when it exceeds the size of your iPod?

Why does the iTunes music store have partial albums that are missing only one track? That makes it outrageously expensive to buy a CD with more than 9 tracks and seems a pretty dumb business move on their part. [Specifically, I tried to buy "Sign O'The Times" after the Prince thread, and it's missing a track.]
