I've become obsessed with the Health app on my iPhone. I get that it probably uses GPS to calculate how far I'm walking/running in a day. But how does it know with crazy precision, how many flights of stairs I've gone up? What else can I get it to do, and how can I get the most out of this app? [more inside]

Are older phones or phones designed for poorer countries any less susceptible to spying than the latest Apple, Google or Android models? I've read about CEO's looking for the very old brick phones because since they don't have the sophisticated technology of the modern phones, they're harder to monitor or track. I understand the phones w/o apps are clearly more secure regarding third parties because they aren't sending personal data to companies. But what the government and everything else; voice, location via cell towers, SMS; the very basics.
I bought a new macbook and it came with a £70 ($110) gift card for use in iTunes, iBookstore, and Mac App store. I have a Macbook air, iPad 3 and iPhone 4, and I'm definitely not making full use of any of them, especially the iPad. I know I can sell it but I'd rather see if there's anything I could use it for first. What should I use the gift card for? [more inside]
This post about gadget fatigue on the blue prompted this question. I just bought the most recent iteration of the iPad. I have an old iPhone and an even older MacBook Pro, and after less than 24 hours with the iPad, I’m getting the impression that the it's superfluous to my life. Please present arguments to the contrary, so that I can make up my mind whether to return it. (I've read this Ask, and this Ask, and this Ask, but the tech changes so quickly that much of what is suggested there is dated, and plenty more apps/uses have come about since those were posted.) I think the time has come for me to jump the iPhone ship. The announcement of the Google version of the Galaxy S4 at I/O was the clincher. But I am not 100% sold on the idea, mainly because the S4 is an ugly brute, but also because I fear for the apps and innovation I will miss. Help me out, specifically in finding a worthy replacement for my beloved Mailbox app. [more inside]
I recently found one of my favorite iPhone apps of all time RJDJ the reactive ambient sound generator and "world quantizer" was discontinued by the company and taken off iTunes. Damn! I never got a chance to put it on my new phone. Are there any other reactive music apps out there like it for iPhones? [more inside]

I would like to start developing programs/apps for Apple's Mac OSX, I have no experience at all with anything like this. Nor do I have any knowledge of the terminology or tools used, please help me work my way up from the very bottom. Including tutorials for beginners or anything you would think help me start my journey into the unknown. A couple of examples of the type of programs I am inspired by are Clutter and Noise. Both for OSX. Let me know if you need anymore information from me. Thanks!
