I lost hundreds of mp3s when Apple installed their Music app on my iPhone. I thought they were gone but then I realized they're still living on the the original iPod I have kicking around (we're talking the white click-wheel iPod). Help a non-techie seize his last chance to save his long lost musical loves! [more inside]
I've got a 2011 MBP that I'd like to prep for sale. It's still running Snow Leopard (and I don't have the boot disks.) What's the easiest, most idiot-proof way to wipe it clean so I can sell it? Is it worth going to the Apple Store for this sort of thing?
So, a while back we got an Apple Airport to try to extend Wifi in our apartment. It doesn't really work and I think perhaps I've misunderstood something fundamental about the airport. Help. [more inside]

So I've got a macbook air. There is NOT a ton of room left on it. But somehow a bunch (like 25-30) photos I took were deleted. I'm still not sure how. And I want to restore JUST those photos. But as I understand it, I need to restore the entire library. And I don't have enough room for TWO libraries on this computer. So is it possible to just go back, look for the photos I want, and restore JUST those? If so...how? Latest mac OSX.
So my work uses an old version of Numbers. I ordered a copy off amazon and it doesn't appear to have a serial number...but am I just missing something? [more inside]

I will be reinstalling mac OSX Yosemite because of constant problems with it but I am looking to retain the folders that have been previosuly created to organise my mails. I am using Outlook 2011 as my mail client. Does using: File - Export - selecting outlook for mac data file (.olm), when imported back, retain the previous folder structure that I have used to organise my mails? If not could anyone suggest how I could keep the existing folder organisation? Many thanks!
I've purchased an aftermarket UK "duck head", the plug adapter used with Apple chargers. I have an official Apple one and it includes a replaceable fuse in the adapter. The aftermarket one does not. This will be used in a 12w iPad charger only (without an AC cord), not a laptop charger. Since there is no AC cord, and the charger is an integrated 12w device, is the replaceable fuse required to meet UK regulations? [more inside]
I sold an iPad on eBay and shipped it to the buyer, who then informed me that it's still locked to my wife's Apple ID. Is there any way I could work with the buyer to unlock it remotely, or does he have to send it back to me?
So, my parents have decided to join the rest of us here in the 21st Century and get Internet access and an iPad. As the free technical support of the family, it's fallen on me to get the device up and running and to keep it running. Difficulty level: they do not own a computer. Help me think this through from all angles so I'm not getting daily calls for assistance. [more inside]
I am in the market for a new desktop, and would like an iMac. Wondering if there are other options (read more inside if interested). [more inside]
I have a mid-2013 Macbook Air with 4GB of RAM. It's currently running Mavericks, and I would love to just keep it that way, but more and more software doesn't work with Mavericks. I would update, but I hear so many people who say that 4GB isn't enough and you need at least 8GB to run both Yosemite and El Capitan well and that performance is worse than on Mavericks. Hello hive. A bit of a head scratcher here Suddenly none of my mac devices will connect to the internet on my network. I was working fine earlier This problem is both wired and wirelessly. My macbook air, iphone and ipad None will connect to the internet However my friend is able to connect with his devices. I deleted and re entered DNS address, restarted everything multiple times. Still no prize. My iphone and my ipad both connect to a 3g network no problem. The only thing these devices have in common is my apple ID What do you think?
I have a 3TB Apple HD that I’ve been *ostensibly* using, in conjunction with Time Machine, to back up my data for the past couple of years. I say “ostensibly” because it takes forever and never seems to fully complete. Please help me figure out a new approach. [more inside]
I need an alternative to iTunes. I just want my music to be sorted by artist, album and song, make playlists and get all of that onto my iPod. I have Windows 10 and my iPod is an older one, appears to be version 2.0.5. I'm willing to pay for this. Please don't suggest Media Monkey, I couldn't figure how to work it and I think it was way too much for my needs.
Snowmageddon has started, and now my iPhone 6 won't hold a battery charge. What's going on and how can I remedy this? [more inside]
I love my new iPhone 6S, but I have been experiencing an annoying issue in voice calls. The call randomly cuts out - it's as if my face is coming in contact with the red "end call" icon. I understand that all iPhones from the start have had a "proximity sensor" to prevent this issue, but it seems as if this sensor isn't doing its job. I never had this issue with my previous two iPhones. The software (iOS 9.2) is up to date as of today. Is there a setting I forgot about, or should I take it back to Apple? [more inside]
My 2011 15" MacBook Pro makes occasional "click-clock" sounds when I'm doing things. It sounds like the sound-effect of a radio button being changed or some other innocuous event, but it happens when I'm doing something else in another window (or even on another screen). It's not a sound I ever hear when I'm actually doing something that causes the sound. How can I figure out what it is? [more inside]
I bought an external battery (20800 mAh) for my oldish Macbook Air. But there is one thing I didn't think of: How do I plug my Macbook into an external battery that only has USB outputs?

I have a 1st generation iBook G4 whose power cable has worn out and whose battery is about shot. I have a new Macbook Pro 13" that I purchased two weeks ago from the Apple store. It has had two minor (but possibly signs of something bigger?) issues so far, and today is the last day I can exchange it for another one. Would you exchange it in my position? See inside for the issues. [more inside]
I like to listen to albums and playlists from my music collection on my iPhone. I don't need a streaming service, or radio, or recommendations, or social networks. I just want a simple user interface that lets me pick out an album (or maybe a playlist) and listen to it. Does such a thing exist for iOS? The built-in music app has gotten way too complicated, and does not work well for me or my family. [more inside]
I'm thinking of replacing my current 3+ year old Mac mini workstation for a 2015 27" iMac 5k but after doing some research I think the 2013 Mac Pro might make more sense. [more inside]

My spouse and I own an 27-inch iMac from 2011. Recently, the screen seemed to go briefly haywire and then black. Now, when the computer is turned on, it seems to boot fine, but nothing can be seen on the screen (the flashlight trick did not help). Is there a way to make the computer mirror itself to another monitor at startup so that we can access its contents? [more inside]
In the “Steve Jobs” script by Aaron Sorkin, there is a little exchange between Jobs and Sculley in which the former says that the name “Apple” came from a “list of friendly-sounding words”. Regardless of why Apple is named Apple, do such lists exist? Is there any research on what makes a word sound friendly to people (phonetically, semantically, aurally, visually, ...)?

I am a Windows PC/Android person to the teeth, have never used any Apple hardware or software other than iTunes in my life, and am now suddenly in the position of having to use an iPhone 4S running iOS 8 as my main phone for the indefinite future. I've been shooting a long series of time lapse images at my job, where we're doing a massive tear down and build. The whole process will be roughly 7 weeks long total, for 8-10 hours a day, 5-7 days a week, one shot per minute for each of two cameras. Up until this point, I've been using iMovie to assemble the initial images in series, spitting video out and then loading it into the GoPro studio app and speeding it up 800-1000% (this will be used in a show and can't be longer than perhaps two minutes). I use Baydin's Email Game (https://emailgame.baydin.com/) to process email. I just got a new job, and my new company is requiring me to use Outlook Express or Apple Mail instead of gmail. Baydin's website only works with gmail or with Google Apps. So I'm looking for some kind of plug-in or add-on for Express or Apple Mail that has similar functionality to the Email Game--especially a timer showing how long I've spent on each email. Does anybody know of anything like this?
I have a Maxtor BlackArmor 250GB external hard drive. I'd like to plug it into my Apple Airport device that serves our house's WiFi. Ultimately, I want to be able to put Plex Media Server on it so we can watch movies and listen to music. How do I make this happen? [more inside]
Yesterday my mid-2012 MacBook Air got the dreaded flashing question mark and "drive not found" text upon startup. Fortunately, I had a Time Machine backup, and I was able to get the computer running (for now - knock on wood). When I was researching the problem, I noticed that this generation of MacBook Air has issues with its SSD, and Apple will replace the drive at no charge within three years of purchase. To diagnose the issue, Apple's website says, you must install the "Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1" from the App Store. Problem is, that update isn't there anymore... [more inside]
