We're looking for an app to streamline our current system. In an effort to curb our chronic clutter, my husband and I have devised a point system for household tasks. We earn points collectively (not in competition with one another), and redeem them for mutually enjoyable activities and purchases (a dinner out, a 6-pack, a trip to a museum, etc). We've been keeping track of points on paper, which is a bit tedious and generates a little clutter itself. It's also easy to forget if we marked points for a completed job, as we a just using hash marks to expedite point tracking. [more inside]
I'm taking Calc I this fall. I can borrow a graphing calculator for actual exams, but don't want to actually purchase one for day-to-day--or haul it around with me. I have an iPhone and a Nexus 7. Is there a graphing calculator app in one or the other app store that is clearly superior? I'm willing to pay, but under $10, ideally.
Is there free or near-free software that I can use to create apps for iOS and Android that will take location data and display the sites on an interactive map? [more inside]
I've used Tweetdeck on my Android phone for as long as I can remember, but I read they were phasing it out a few months ago (since Twitter bought them) and as of lunchtime yesterday my app has finally stopped updating. Any suggestions on what the best app out there is? I'd like it to be free, but don't mind paying a few bucks for a really good app. The phone is a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, so it should be able to download anything.
I will soon be getting my first smartphone adn one of the "smart" things I would like to use it for is to assist me in learning a new language (Russian). I'm looking for suggestions on phones and apps to do this. [more inside]
I live in a major city with a ton of interesting gallery and museum exhibitions. I've too often found that I missed a show. Is there an iphone app that will easily keep track only of shows I'm interested in seeing, listing their opening and closing dates? Or has anyone found a successful way to keep track? Bonus: a reminder letting me know when they're closing soon. Also interested in evernote and google calendar solutions.
I'm in San Francisco for the summer again, and looking for can't-miss bike rides as well as apps that will help me find more of them. Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
I want to be able to record measurements and events on my phone, and have that data automagically accessible on my computer (or the cloud). For example, I would record things like 1) exercise type, distance and duration, 2) tire id, position and pressure, 3) flea treatment application date, brand, and effectiveness. Then I would write scripts that would tell me 1) what kind of exercise I'm best at doing consistently, 2) whether the back passenger tire really does lose more air, even after switching tires, and 3) which flea tx works best and when to buy and apply the next round. The challenge, it turns out, is finding an app that can automatically write input back to my computer as a plain text file. Ideally I'd like a flexible app designed for data entry. Do I have to give up and use Documents To Go and Excel file format? Tell me it ain't so. [more inside]
Astrid (to-do list app) was bought by Yahoo and will be shut down soon. Please suggest a replacement app? More requirements inside. [more inside]

My husband built an android app that is one of those word games where you are given a rack of seven letters and have to find as many words using those letters as you can. It's basically a Scrabble trainer, but he wants/needs to avoid using the word Scrabble in the name so as not to piss off Hasbro. What should he name it instead? [more inside]
I can't find a text messaging app that does everything I want, so I use multiple apps and confuse my friends with multiple phone numbers. Is there a better way? [more inside]
I am working on a list since 2004 that I think would be salable. It's publicly available contact information for radio, TV, magazines, syndicates, newspapers, book publishers and agents. I'm a freelancer and I originally started it because I wanted to be able to reach these sources to interest them in my content. But I realized it could be a product. [more inside]
My son is 10 years old and going into 5th grade in the fall (but he usually does 6th grade math). He likes Stack the States, and we're looking for a math app with similar appeal. We already have Sushi Monster and his younger sister loves it, but I'd like something more challenging for him.
My son has an iPod touch and pretty much everyone in our family has iPhones and iPads. I would like to find a way that my son can text chat with only a small approved list of people. [more inside]

While shopping for a case for my new Android tablet I came across this photo. I like the cutesy look of the game on screen - can anyone identify it (if it's not just a mockup for marketing purposes)? Thanks!
I developed a knee injury while training for a 10K. I ran the 10K (much to my knee's displeasure), but saw a doctor and physical therapist shortly thereafter. My physical therapist has recommended that I work on cadence training to improve my form. I primarily listen to podcasts (via Downcast, but I can change apps if necessary), and am looking for a cadence training metronome that will run in the background while I play my podcasts. Any suggestions? The metronome in the app "Running Cadence" is what I'm looking for (input your bpm, and it spits out a clicking sound), but it gets all funky when I try to run Downcast at the same time. Any suggestions for cadence training apps (for iPhone) that will run while playing podcasts would be much appreciated!
I've got a Mac and an iPhone. I have a huge list of phone numbers to call in a spreadsheet. I'd like to copy/paste from the spreadsheet into a dialer which then dials my phone. Any suggestions? [more inside]

I've been writing python software with Tkinter GUIs as a hobby for a while, but for the first time, I've made a some pieces of code that a few other people want to use. Unfortunately, I've been really frustrated by attempts to distribute the software because of incompatibility with Tcl/Tk installations on computers I'm distributing the software to. I'm on a Mac, and I'm distributing to other Macs at this point. [more inside]
When I have email on my iPhone, the Mail app displays the number of unread emails on the Mail icon on the home screen. I want an app like Notes that does this with the number of notes - and not through emailing my notes to me. No other fancy features desired, just something that gives me an easy visual reminder that I have notes to check.
iPhone user; I've experimented with exercise logging apps such as MapMyRide+, Cyclemeter and Fitocracy (most of my exercise is cycling-oriented, but I'm also looking at Kinect exercise games and, potentially, weightlifting). Is there a good combo app that logs both exercise and food intake? Or one site that could possibly accept input/imports from both? [more inside]

I have to be at work earlier than usual for the foreseeable future, and I am not much of a morning person. Still, I have had considerable success by breaking my routine down and gamifying it by giving myself points for hitting different markers (e.g. 2 points for getting up without hitting the snooze button, 1 point for hitting it only once, 1 point for heading out the door with the dogs at a certain time, 1 point for arriving at the office on time, 2 points for 5 minutes early, 5 points for more than 5 minutes, etc.). I then give myself little rewards for certain numbers of points (e.g. two days' worth of on-time arrivals equals a latte at my favourite coffee place). I think it would be fun to be able to track this on my iPad, and am looking for something that will allow me to re-use the same checklists and will count points as items are completed. I've looked at the various checklist and "to-do" apps, but none of them seem to fit the bill, especially the point-tracking aspect. Any ideas?
I'm looking for something sleek and simple, that will allow people to check themselves in when they arrive (2 contexts, gym members, and youth in an after school program). [more inside]

Siri is touted as an advanced piece of engineering technology, but as far as I know I can open Apple made apps and run a command. Very helpful if you figure it out (it's worth it), but limited indeed. What are its limits? Can this be extended? Note: There is no Siri API, or god forbid, SDK, to speak of.
Please recommend to me your favourite app/website for tracking all the travel places you have already been to and the places you plan to go to on a map. Would also help if it already has lists like World Heritage sites so that I can just tick the relevant places.
