Looking for an iOS e-mail app that does what I want it to do. [more inside]
I've recently created an iPhone app that's not a game, but falls more in the "Entertainment" category (it uses Twitter to predict the future). And I'm not sure where I should try to send it for review/exposure, as most review sites are game-oriented. I've tried the usual suspects (MeFi Projects, submitted to BoingBoing, shared on FB and Twitter), but am surprised at how quickly I'm running out of ideas for places to send this guy to. I'm looking for a great project management & time tracking app that meets these criteria: 1. Not cloud-hosted (i.e., must be installed on our own servers) for legal reasons. 2. Great iOS apps. 3. Capacity to handle a team of multiple people, not just a single individual's projects 4. Painless time tracking (with reporting for the manager) 5. Ability to create tasks or projects (either, I'm flexible), estimate time in advance, track actual time spent, and report on difference between estimated time and actual time. [more inside]
I was using Moves to track my walking and biking, etc, on my iPhone. It was great! Unfortunately, I felt I had to delete it once it decided to send all my data to Facebook. Are there any decent iPhone replacements for Moves? (I don't have a fitbit or anything except the iPhone (5S).)
Training app for faster 5k. [more inside]
I'm not looking to create the next Flappy Bird and make $50k a month, I'm just looking to create apps that go with my published books, and man, is there a lot of choices out there. Help me suss them out! [more inside]
I am having trouble understanding how matches are formed. If I am bisexual and it shows me pictures of people of both genders, does that mean or imply those people are interested in people of my gender, or does it just randomly show men and women when both are selected? Is the pool of people I am shown a pool of people who already said they liked me first and then people who haven't been asked only after those people? Does it ever show me a picture of someone who has already specifically said they don't like me? And along the same lines, does it sometimes (as it seems) show me a bunch of people who haven't yet had the opportunity to thumbs up or thumbs down me, and if they do thumbs me up, will it then tell me and them we matched at the same time? Thank you. Postscript: Also - why so many matches and so few people initiating conversation?
Manilla is closing, and I'm heartbroken. This app takes care of all of my accounts. Credit union, bank, investments, credit cards, amazon card (which mint can't do), auto loan, mortgage, utilities, subscriptions, everything! So I need a replacement. [more inside]
How good does Google App Engine support PHP? [more inside]
I spend a lot of my day in boring but important meetings, or watching boring but important educational training videos. I get distracted and zone out quickly. I need something mindless to occupy that portion of my brain, and I'd prefer it in iPhone app form. [more inside]
My wife has an iPad Air. WiFi is enabled, but there is no cell-phone type connection. She would like to be able to move pictures of our grandchildren to the iPad so she can show them off even (or especially) where/when she has no connectivity. How? [more inside]
I have a number of projects in mind that boil down to: make a database, then overlay an interface so that users can do some simple queries from a webpage or (ideally) a webapp on mobile. What programs should I be looking at to make this happen? [more inside]
Is there a good app (iOS or Android) that will let me create a list of specific beers I want to try, and let me know where I can find them in the area that I'm in? [more inside]
The birds are back in town, and I wake up early enough to hear their songs before the traffic drowns them out. I'm no birder--I don't think I can identify any bird by its call, and only the five most "identifiable" birds by sight (and I'm probably wrong). What apps (iOS) and websites do you recommend to learn bird songs? [more inside]
I've just made the switch from my old iPhone to a Nexus 5, and the only little thing bothering me is that the default music app doesn't display album or track lenths when you go to choose something to play. Should I install a new music player, and if so, which one? [more inside]
I have an urgent need for a way to share a daily journal + notes among multiple people, that is searchable by date and term. Bonus difficulty: it needs to have a very low learning curve. [more inside]
Asking for my company: Is there a mobile podcasting service which allows one to disable downloads? [more inside]
After a complicated chain of circumstances involving a SIM migration, a grandfathered prepaid data plan that transferred from an iPhone 3G to a 4 to the current 5S, and many hours (no exaggeration) at the AT&T store while their employees talked to level 2 tech support, I was left with:
- A working iPhone 5S on AT&T, now getting LTE data but restored to factory settings.
- A recent encrypted backup from the phone, just before the wipe.
I am looking for an app that allows me to add highlights and notes to articles I have saved to 'read later' on my iPad and/or smartphone. [more inside]

A friend runs a small professional organization with about 60-80 members, and is looking for a way to more easily manage membership. She is hoping to find software or a web service designed to do these things:
- Most importantly: allow members to pay an annual membership fee online. She also needs to be able to look up who has paid and who hasn't.
- Allow members to log in and update contact information and other info (such as number of accredited hours).
- Email all members, download a list of members, and so on.
Is there an equivalent of Instapaper or Pocket, but more or less optimized for saving and decluttering (long) email threads? (Gmail, specifically?) [more inside]
Is there an Android app out there that would allow you to touch the screen (either a big icon or the entire screen) that would play back a selected sound file when tapped? The quicker the response time the better. And if it has options for multiple zones (like making a custom-made Simon), even better.
Is there a way in Android to choose a picture, and MMS to a person quickly? (Without choosing text, picking contact, pressing send?) [more inside]
I'd like to use the children's song: "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly" in an app for mobile phones. How can I find out who owns the rights to the song and get permission to use it? How much should I expect it to cost? [more inside]
I'm getting a Fitbit Flex soon and am planning to use its silent alarm feature so my partner can keep snoozing undisturbed while I rise and shine. I'd still like to have a noisy alarm as a backup just in case, though. Is there an Android app available that can do either of the following things: 1) notices that I'm already up (via the motion sensor, or unlocking the screen) and will skip any upcoming alarms or 2) has a really quick way to skip the next alarm (say, from the notification bar or a widget on the home screen) - if I have to open the app I'm likely to forget. I believe KitKat has feature #2 in the stock clock, but my S3 Mini is still on version 4.1.2 and I'm not sure if/when an update will be coming. Thanks!
Is it possible to transfer apps between iOS devices without jailbreaking? [more inside]
I’m interested in the DURR, a simple display-less “watch” that vibrates every 5 minutes to influence your perception of the passing of time. Since DURR is not currently shipping and I already own an iPhone with a clock and a vibrating buzzer, I feel like this should be doable with an app. There’s already a Pebble app so I’m sure it’s not crazy. If this doesn’t currently exist, how hard might it be to write one myself? I’ve compiled things in XCode before but not written my own from-scratch Objective-C, so I’d be approaching this as a newcomer.
So I have joined the 2010s and bought an iPad. Please help me outfit it with apps. [more inside]
Background: I work for a (small) company and was put in charge of helping manage the creation of a smartphone app, related to our business (both clients and non-clients would find it relevant) and geared at business professionals in the US. I was given this task due to capacity and not skill, so it's been a learning curve. An outside developer was brought in to actually create the app (for both iOS and Android). Both versions are functionally identical (with identical text in the respective stores) and sell for the same price ($1.99, if that's relevant). It's now been a few months since the apps went live in their respective stores. Our PR firm has been helping promote the app to generate sales/spread the word. As it turns out, the iOS version is outselling the Android version by a factor of 12 to 1. Given that Android appears to have a much larger market share than Apple, this seems a little odd. I'm looking for input from those who have sold apps in both stores to see if this is akin to their experience or any resources that might help explain why this is. I've done some searching on my own (both here in the green and on the web) but haven't found anything concrete.
For my job I need to make a short video that graphically illustrates an iPhone app and its functionality. Are there any tools or sites out there that can let me do this as nicely as possible? I'm thinking of something similar to App.io except I need something more automated and presentable. Something like a Powerpoint presentation except for an app with text and animations/video.
I have a new Android phone. I've never used Android. Any suggestions for amazing applications or games? (cat pictures inside) [more inside]
Husband has android phone and I have an iphone. We have a new puppy. We need an APP that will let us sync between us a log of when our pup goes potty (and other puppy things if available) since he leaves for work at 3 and crates our pup, and I come home at 5 and take over for our pup. I cant find it, but there has got to be an app that will easily let us track all things puppy related and share it between the two of us. Maybe not even an app made for dogs? Thanks!

I have a couple web forms I'd like to make: one for a professional purpose, another for personal use (though that could exist as a program or an app that I don't know about). Is it better to find a service that will allow you to build conditional forms, or can they be made from scratch with some ease? [more inside]
I'm looking for an iPhone alarm app that will wake me up a specific amount of time after I enable it (8 hours in my case) and has a snooze function. The timer function of iOS is not suitable (no snooze). The alarm clocks apps I have tried are not suitable as they require you to choose a time (e.g. 8am) not a duration (e.g. 8 hours), and those that do display the duration (e.g. Rise), don't display it until you enable the alarm. How can I best track photos of a medical issue, to see changes over time? The photos need to be taken many times a day, and easily compiled so I can see the variation between them. They should not be public, but ideally I'd like to share the photos with my doctors. The photos need to be time stamped, or the resulting archive needs to make the times and dates clear. The process should be as simple and fast, as it will be repeated 6x a day or more. Any ideas on how to make this as painless as possible? [more inside]

I'm looking for an app/web site to track restaurants where I want to eat. Requirements: Keeps a list of restaurants where I'd like to eat. Allows me to move them to "liked it" (so I'll remember to eat there again) or "didn't like it" (so I won't) lists after I've eaten there. Needs to have some sort of mapping function so if we're in the neighborhood and hungry, I can say "Oh, hey, we've been meaning to eat at [x, y, z] places. Which would you like to try?" [more inside]
