Is there an iPhone app that can record sound, date and time, and indicate how many decibels the sound being recorded is at? I have an iPhone 6S.
For years I've been wanting an app that will do these things: 1. Allow me to plan a shortest route between errands, and 2. not require me to tell it exactly where I want to do the errand, but be able to use categories as well as specifics. 3. be very easy to use on a iPhone 5s. 4. also estimate travel time between spots. Does my thing exist? Examples inside - thanks! [more inside]
I'm looking for an app to log my weightlifting workouts. Think Starting Strength or Bill Starr's 5x5 but with variations. I've tried Strong for iOS and FitNotes for Android. FitNotes is close to my ideal, but I'm not on Android anymore. [more inside]
I have about 25 clips recorded with my iPhone that are about 20 seconds each and I want to edit them into one long video, what (free) app can I use to do that?
Why does my iPhone require carrier-based voicemail service? Why can't it handle voicemail entirely on the phone itself? [more inside]
I have tons of photos of me and my partner on my iphone and would like to put them all together in a grid fashion (maybe 10x7 photos ish) to then be sent off and printed so i can frame it and give it to her as a present. I would really like an app that would be able to do all of this in one shot but cant seem to see any. Failing that, any other option that is kind of straight forward. Id rather not be messing around with Photoshop templates and stuff if possible.
I like to listen to albums and playlists from my music collection on my iPhone. I don't need a streaming service, or radio, or recommendations, or social networks. I just want a simple user interface that lets me pick out an album (or maybe a playlist) and listen to it. Does such a thing exist for iOS? The built-in music app has gotten way too complicated, and does not work well for me or my family. [more inside]
I've been doing a lot of hands-on failure analysis and inspection for my work, and I need a good way to dictate inspection notes using my iphone. You know in TV when the coroner describes the autopsy as he's doing it? Like that. I'd really prefer it to be an iOS app, but some kind of laptop app would be vaguely acceptable. Specific Required features inside. [more inside]
Is there an easy way to track hours, tasks or projected completed, and also be able to add notes in a single app? [more inside]
So, I currently have a system where when I accomplish a certain daily goal, I stick a star sticker on a physical calendar. Now I want to keep doing that, but on my phone! [more inside]
I accidentally deleted an iPhone app (Voice Recorder). Associated with the app were audio files that I didn't have anywhere else, some of which I'd be pretty bummed to lose. There are no phone backups. Is it possible that these files still exist on my phone, and with the right tools, one could recover them? [more inside]
I need a grocery app that my husband and I can both add to/sync lists for iOS (web interface nice but not mandatory). We've been using Buy Me a Pie, but it's gotten glitchy for us and won't let me add him to lists. I've seen this post, and will check out the other recs, but it's a year old, which is forever in app development time. Possible complication: spouse beta tests new iOS versions on his phone for work reasons.
According to my carrier, my iphone 5S had two registered data usages at 12:00am on the 15th for a total of 575MB. The problem is, I was asleep at the time, and the phone should have been accessing our wireless connection. So what ate the last of my data? [more inside]
I'm hoping to create an iPhone app that's a travel guide whose text pages will include some foreign terms. Users should be able to touch a foreign term to see a pop-up phonetic pronunciation. But the programmers I'm considering hiring say they're not sure how to do this, and suspect it might be expensive. Can anyone smart save the day and come up with a solution? [more inside]
I'm looking for an app for iPhone that will alert the user once they've been on the phone for an hour. [more inside]
I've become obsessed with the Health app on my iPhone. I get that it probably uses GPS to calculate how far I'm walking/running in a day. But how does it know with crazy precision, how many flights of stairs I've gone up? What else can I get it to do, and how can I get the most out of this app? [more inside]
Hi all, I'm looking for a great mileage tracking app to record my business trips. A while back i used to be pleased with Trip Cubby until it no longer was supported after an upgrade. I went back to old fashioned notes for a while, but it's now 2015 and there must be a better way. What are your favourites? Needs to supports european parameters ( euros and kms). thanks!
Me and my dad don't really like to talk on the phone much or communicate extensively via email. I'm about to give him an iPhone and I was wondering if you can suggest a way to use the phone to keep in touch in a fun and fresh way. [more inside]
I somehow lost an app from my iPhone - it's still on my iPad - how can I recover it from the iPad? [more inside]
Someone has requested my assistance in finding the best Bible app for iOS. [more inside]
I've been trying to Google this but coming up short - what's the best to-do list for iOS with offline access? [more inside]
I'm looking for a counter/tallying app (akin to mdevore's Flexible Counter) which allows for realtime syncing between users. That is, I'd like to be able to increment a counter and have the new value quickly show up for another device. Does such a thing exist? [more inside]
My electric utility released an iPhone app called "DTE Insight" which (among other things) measures the amount of power flowing through an appliance's power cord by asking you to hold the cord against a specific part of the iPhone at a specific angle. I have tested it against my Kill-a-Watt and it seems remarkably accurate for what it is. It presumably uses the iPhone's magnetic field sensor to accomplish this, but how on earth does it actually work? [more inside]
I am doing a class project for which I need to create a high-fidelity prototype of a mobile app idea. The final assignment in the class is going to be user testing of the prototype. What I'm looking for is a prototyping tool which will allow me to easily create screens with native iPhone widgets. It needs to be high-fidelity and as interactive as possible. And it needs to be accessible on the web. What are the tools that you use? My full requirements are within. [more inside]
I’m looking for a game, playable on my iPhone, with probably crazy specific requirements. I fell in love with and completed (twice, once with huts and once without) A Dark Room. If I could erase my memory of playing that game and do it again, that’s basically what I’m after. [more inside]
I've recently created an iPhone app that's not a game, but falls more in the "Entertainment" category (it uses Twitter to predict the future). And I'm not sure where I should try to send it for review/exposure, as most review sites are game-oriented. I've tried the usual suspects (MeFi Projects, submitted to BoingBoing, shared on FB and Twitter), but am surprised at how quickly I'm running out of ideas for places to send this guy to. [more inside]
I was using Moves to track my walking and biking, etc, on my iPhone. It was great! Unfortunately, I felt I had to delete it once it decided to send all my data to Facebook. Are there any decent iPhone replacements for Moves? (I don't have a fitbit or anything except the iPhone (5S).)
Training app for faster 5k. [more inside]
I'm not looking to create the next Flappy Bird and make $50k a month, I'm just looking to create apps that go with my published books, and man, is there a lot of choices out there. Help me suss them out! [more inside]
I spend a lot of my day in boring but important meetings, or watching boring but important educational training videos. I get distracted and zone out quickly. I need something mindless to occupy that portion of my brain, and I'd prefer it in iPhone app form. [more inside]
After a complicated chain of circumstances involving a SIM migration, a grandfathered prepaid data plan that transferred from an iPhone 3G to a 4 to the current 5S, and many hours (no exaggeration) at the AT&T store while their employees talked to level 2 tech support, I was left with:
- A working iPhone 5S on AT&T, now getting LTE data but restored to factory settings.
- A recent encrypted backup from the phone, just before the wipe.
Is there an equivalent of Instapaper or Pocket, but more or less optimized for saving and decluttering (long) email threads? (Gmail, specifically?) [more inside]
Is it possible to transfer apps between iOS devices without jailbreaking? [more inside]
I’m interested in the DURR, a simple display-less “watch” that vibrates every 5 minutes to influence your perception of the passing of time. Since DURR is not currently shipping and I already own an iPhone with a clock and a vibrating buzzer, I feel like this should be doable with an app. There’s already a Pebble app so I’m sure it’s not crazy. If this doesn’t currently exist, how hard might it be to write one myself? I’ve compiled things in XCode before but not written my own from-scratch Objective-C, so I’d be approaching this as a newcomer.
For my job I need to make a short video that graphically illustrates an iPhone app and its functionality. Are there any tools or sites out there that can let me do this as nicely as possible? I'm thinking of something similar to App.io except I need something more automated and presentable. Something like a Powerpoint presentation except for an app with text and animations/video.

My young adult daughter, who suffers from depression, was advised by her therapist to track her moods, to be better able to identify what triggers them. I suggested that she use an iPhone app, since she has her phone with her at all times. Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific mood tracking app? [more inside]
Iphone 4S, ios7. Videos app screen now shows videos as thumbnails, but I want my list view back. How can I switch the title view back to a simple list? Thanks.
I have a security concern related to using app's such as Grindr that pull location data. I've had a couple people "stalk me" to my specific location in the past. I would like to meet people in my "area" on these kinds of apps - but I want to set my actual location to somewhere else in the city. I had this working on my old jailbroken 3GS. But now that I have a new phone (IOS7) it would seem I'm screwed. Any ideas?
Is there an iPhone app that allows me to set reminders that are shown only if I'm in a specific place at a specific time? [more inside]
That's it. What are the worthwhile public transport/transit apps for iPhone for Vancouver (for a tourist, if it makes a difference)? Free preferably, but paid not a problem it the app is worth it. Thanks in advance.
I’m looking for a money management app for Mac that also syncs with iPhone. What do you use and why? (I’ve looked here on Metafilter and found little to nothing that’s recent). [more inside]
I'm looking for a free calendar app that will work without being synced to either my iPhone calendar or my google calendar. [more inside]
I'm taking Calc I this fall. I can borrow a graphing calculator for actual exams, but don't want to actually purchase one for day-to-day--or haul it around with me. I have an iPhone and a Nexus 7. Is there a graphing calculator app in one or the other app store that is clearly superior? I'm willing to pay, but under $10, ideally.
I live in a major city with a ton of interesting gallery and museum exhibitions. I've too often found that I missed a show. Is there an iphone app that will easily keep track only of shows I'm interested in seeing, listing their opening and closing dates? Or has anyone found a successful way to keep track? Bonus: a reminder letting me know when they're closing soon. Also interested in evernote and google calendar solutions.
