I'm hoping to create an iPhone app that's a travel guide whose text pages will include some foreign terms. Users should be able to touch a foreign term to see a pop-up phonetic pronunciation. But the programmers I'm considering hiring say they're not sure how to do this, and suspect it might be expensive. Can anyone smart save the day and come up with a solution? [more inside]

I want an iPad app that will let me easily make a scale drawing of my back yard, and then export it in a useful standard format (e.g. PDF, EPS, etc.). I'm having a hard time telling of the "room design" and "floorplan" apps will do what I want. [more inside]
I'm looking for an IOS app that will let me play a song from my music library at a different (chosen) pitch, on the fly, without impacting song length. I know IOS audio editors can do this but I was hoping for something that didn't require loading, editing and saving each song before listening. Any ideas? (Case you were wondering, I'm trying to re-hear my music collection, and shifting pitch is one way to do it.)

I am planning to take a trip to Japan sometime this summer and I'd like to brush up on my very rudimentary Japanese before going. Is there a good app I can use? [more inside]
I don't think there's any way to uninstall the Google Photo bloatware on my unrooted Android phone, which is super-annoying. I've turned off "upload to Google+" but am angsty that one day, after an update or whatever, it might re-default to upload. I don't want Google saving copies of my stuff, and I am not reassured by their help materials, which talk about me "not seeing" the images anymore if I delete them. That's not the same as Google not having them, which is what I'm trying to avoid. Without rooting my phone, is there a way I can delete the app, or stop it from storing my stuff? [more inside]

I've become obsessed with the Health app on my iPhone. I get that it probably uses GPS to calculate how far I'm walking/running in a day. But how does it know with crazy precision, how many flights of stairs I've gone up? What else can I get it to do, and how can I get the most out of this app? [more inside]
I cannot seem to find a good app that will let me: 1) have recurring tasks 2) allow me to check them off as done (like disappear or strike or some other indicator) 3) presented in calendar form (not a "reminders" list). I don't ask for much. I have checked out many many free apps, none of which accomplish what I want. I'm sure this gem is a paid app and I will gladly fork over based on a suggestion, knowing my criteria. I have yet to find one that has all three of these requirements spelled out. Thanks!
I'm hunting for an app (ideally on iPad) that offers you a curated, regularly-updated feed of images of great design, for a daily dose of inspiration. The content can be drawn from pretty much any source: advertising, photography, web design, home decor, whatever. DesignScene used to do a pretty good job of this a few years back, but unfortunately got discontinued. Any ideas, guys?
Hi all, I'm looking for a great mileage tracking app to record my business trips. A while back i used to be pleased with Trip Cubby until it no longer was supported after an upgrade. I went back to old fashioned notes for a while, but it's now 2015 and there must be a better way. What are your favourites? Needs to supports european parameters ( euros and kms). thanks!

We're leaving on a 2 week road trip and we'd like to take photos and have them placed onto a map by location to share with people so they can see where we are. I've found that Instagram's photo map is almost what we want, but not quite, so looking for similar apps. [more inside]

I'm looking for an iPhone App to track my spending, NOT budgeting. My salary is automatically split via direct deposit, so that most of it goes into a different account used to pay bills with the spouse. What's needed is an App to track the money in my personal account, which is used mostly for fun stuff, with a few minor things like gas or reccurring payments for Netflix, website hosting etc. Specific features are below the cut! I'm currently developing 32 ebooks and 32 apps for a Kickstarter, and I'm having a bit of trouble keeping track of all 64 threads. I'm starting to get a better feel for all of the steps involved in developing each of these products, and so I'm wondering if there are tools that might help me keep track of progress on all fronts, keep everyone on task, etc. Alternatively, are there people or services that specialize in this sort of thing and can monitor all the threads of the project and make sure everything is always progressing in some way? The NYTimes for iPad app was recently upgraded to v3.5 to match the style of iOS 8. When iOS 7 was released, the New York Times released v3.0 which "broke" several features for me, forcing me to downgrade to v2.x. Can anyone tell me how v3.5 handles "Saved Items?" [more inside]
I am tracking what I eat by type of food and I am looking for an app to help me track it. For example, I want to eat 7 veg servings, 3 protein, 4 whole grains, etc. is there an app where I can enter the category and number that I want to eat per day and then as I eat them I can check them off? I can think of other uses, too, like tracking pills and vitamins or even household chores.
Music teaching n00b filter. I now have a tablet with ear training software I use in lessons and discovered the kids quite automatically pick up terms like "minor second" which I hadn't dreamt about teaching them yet. Just as they're in the app. Then when they're stuck on a melody on their instrument I say "go up a minor second here" and it works. Holy interval, batman! What are similar ways you use to teach musical concepts without being all obvious about it? Would it be correct to classify this as active/experiental learning and what are your favourite resources? Here's what I'm looking for: a dead simple goals/tasks tracking app that allows me to set and log hours spent on activities per week, after the fact. Can do web-based, Android, or iPad. [more inside]
I make international calls daily on Skype for my work. Because I freelance, I pay the Skype bill, and would like to check out free alternatives. Is there something reliable out there? The catch is I also have to be able to record each call. (Occasionally I'm able to call someone directly on Skype, but most of the time, I'm calling a mobile or land line). If there's a good alternative out there, I might use it for domestic work calls in the U.S. too. I could use either an iPhone app or my laptop.
I used to use talkatone to make calls from any android device for free, through google voice. Google voice shut down support for that through talkatone back in may 2014. Now I found a similar App but it makes you watch advertisements to get tokens to make "free" calls. Does anyone know an app that actually works, for free, on android? Thanks.

My 9 year old loves Dragon City. I de-authorized the FB app to post on my behalf through Facebook settings, but it's still very easy to send invitations to all Facebook friends through the Dragon City app (which my son usually plays on my iPad). As far as I understand, there's no way to play Dragon City without linking it to a Facebook account. Is there anyway to turn off the ability to invite Facebook friends? [more inside]
I'm looking for a counter/tallying app (akin to mdevore's Flexible Counter) which allows for realtime syncing between users. That is, I'd like to be able to increment a counter and have the new value quickly show up for another device. Does such a thing exist? [more inside]
My electric utility released an iPhone app called "DTE Insight" which (among other things) measures the amount of power flowing through an appliance's power cord by asking you to hold the cord against a specific part of the iPhone at a specific angle. I have tested it against my Kill-a-Watt and it seems remarkably accurate for what it is. It presumably uses the iPhone's magnetic field sensor to accomplish this, but how on earth does it actually work? [more inside]
Can you help me find a very recent price reduction on a number of Mac apps? I ran across it within the last two days, Aug 6 or 7. A blog mentioned a short-term price reduction on apps via the App Store, perhaps 20 titles. Some were of interest to me. Since I was rushed, I briefly noted it and moved on, expecting to be able to retrace it in my browser history. Only thing is, now that I am able to look for it, there doesn't seem to be anything that matches this. Any help would be appreciated.
