A dear friend's husband sounds like he has sleep apnea. His interrupted sleep makes him lethargic and unable to work, meaning his wife works full time and takes care of the four kids, including a special needs child. He is moody, depressed, and has migraines and irritable bowel syndrome. I would like some accessible articles and anecdotes on the risks of untreated apnea; the benefits of treatment; and how treatment is accessed in the NHS (UK).

Apparently apnea monitors aren't reliable in moving vehicles, and I may have to put my 11-day-old in the front seat to be able to see that she's still breathing. Anybody have experience or expertise?

What is the deal with my sleeping weirdnesses? Could I have sleep apnea? I'm 26, female, no more than 5 lbs overweight. I snore heavily but my fiance has never noticed me gasping for air or choking in the night.

Has anyone successfully used non-surgical alternatives to CPAP therapy (oral appliances, special pillows, etc) for treatment of mild-to-moderate sleep apnea, or been able to stop CPAP therapy after losing weight?

I have severe sleep apnea (apnea/hypopnea index 66). I've tried various CPAPs (currently a
REMstar Auto M Series with C-Flex) and masks (full-face, nasal pillow, currently a nasal mask). The problem is that for every combination of machine and mask, I wake up in an hour or two, generally having swallowed a lot of air, and stop using the CPAP for the night. The respiratory tech says that it's working when I use it - index as low as 6, which is well within the normal range - but I'm so uncomfortable when I wake up that it's very hard to put the mask back on. Suggestions?

Sleep Apnea... some, ooh, let's say about 5% of the population has it. I'm starting to think I might, too: not feeling rested in the morning, snoring at night, breathing stops irregularly, etcetera. Anyone got personal experiences, stories, or advice to offer? I'm not running to the doctor yet... unless y'all scare me into it!
