My Super is wonderful. I want to give her cash for (what I consider) to be going out of her way but she actively refuses it. Suggestions, especially as we're in the midst of holidays of various flavors.

NYC Realestate filter. Best ways to find an apartment sublet this August, and then a rental. Must be on the E/F subway line. Questions about subletting/renting -> Clinton/MidtownEast/LIC-queens neighborhoods follow.

My lease doesn't end for another 7.5 months, and I just got a letter today from the landlord requesting I renew the lease by the 20th. Is this normal?

Need quick advice! My girlfriend and I looked at an apartment last night on Sickles Street off Nagle Avenue, a few blocks below Dyckman street, in Inwood, Manhattan. We've been advised before to stay west of Broadway in Inwood. Can anyone comment on the area?

NYCaptFilter: I'm moving to NYC (yay!) and sorry, but I'm going to drive you all nuts with questions for the next few weeks. #1: Best way to find an apartment? I know the city, but would like tips on finding a good place. Broker? Classified listings? Pitfalls to avoid? How do I find something rent stabilized? Any opinion about rentdirect.com? I promise to host a meetup when I get settled.
