Looking for a good DC apartment building that is relatively quiet and allows cats, 1BR for under $2250/month.

I am moving to DC this fall to work in biglaw. The pay is high, but so are my student loans, which I would like to pay off ahead of schedule. Where should I live? Snowflakes within.

Moving just up the road in Arlington (Northern VA) but have quite a bit of stuff that I don't trust me and my friends to not mess up. So what do I look for in a professional moving company?

I'm in College Park, MD for graduate school. My lease ends in August, and I feel like it's time to start looking for a place. I want to stay within a few minutes of campus (lived in Hyattsville before, and really liked that) but also want to try to get a place between $500 to $700 before utilities and cable. I've mostly just known people for the past few places I've lived, so I'm looking for some advice on when to start seriously looking, where to look, and other advice.

Should I avoid signing a year-long lease for a room in a group house or shared apartment? Is it reasonable to hold out for month-to-month rent, or will I end up with slim pickings? (I am looking in the DC area)

Can you suggest a mover for a (very) small amount of stuff? I have to move to a new apartment in the next 2 weeks, but I have very little stuff : one bedroom's worth of furniture, a sofa, and a folding table with some chairs. I only have 2 boxes of books. I called some moving companies, but the smallest load they will take is still way more than I have. I live in the Maryland suburbs of DC. Thanks.

All signs point to illegal activity on the part of my landlord, and paying the rent in cash certainly isn't helping the situation. What are our options (in DC?)

I am moving to a new apartment in Washington DC, and in reading over the lease there are a couple things I am not so sure about... Can you please take a look at the clauses and tell me if they seem reasonable?

I'm planning to move to out of my current studio apartment in DC to a larger one bedroom in the Petworth neighborhood (though the northern end of Columbia Heights/southern 14th St Heights would be possible as well) in DC. I'm looking to start mid-July to August 1st.
I need some advice on what complexes might be worth looking at - there are plenty of apartment ratings and listings for more gentrified parts of DC, but very little there.

I need advice on where to live in Northern Virginia--one of us will be commuting to Prince William county and the other will be headed into D.C.. How can we split the difference to minimize the traffic pain.

I want to thank everyone for their advice on
my previous question about getting to DC for an interview. I'm at the next phase of my problem now: I got the job. That's not the problem; starting a week from Monday is. I need an apartment in Washington, DC in... yeah, umm, five days or so. I'm looking up brokers right now, any other options? Good websites? This is my first move ever, so I'm mind-numbingly ignorant about this.
