Is it possible to set up 2 different Firefox "accounts" on the same computer, with each account having separate bookmarks, settings, etc. In addition, is it possible to import bookmarks from AOL to Firefox? My wife is thinking of shifting to Firefox, but we're wondering if it would be too much of a hassle, given her hundreds of bookmarks/"favorites"--and the desire for each of us to have our own customized version of the software.

I've been perusing the leaked AOL database, and it's kind of disturbing how many users are searching for child porn. Does anyone have this DB in mysql and can run some numbers on what percentage of users are doing these searches? What about searches for plain vanilla porn... how common is that?

I found a site a while ago, where you would enter AOL/AIM screen names to monitor, and it will store data on when the name is online/away... now it's been long enough to get some nice data but I can't Google my way around to it.

Why are seemingly no IM clients compatible with each other for anything other than chat? (i.e., file transfer, image insertion, file transfer, oh, and also file transfer.) I'm not talking about Y!IM vs. AIM here -- I'm talking about the various clients that all use AOL's IM service. Even the open-source clients have this problem. Why wasn't this problem solved years ago?

So, now I want to dump AOL Instant Messenger, and convince all of my friends and relatives to do the same. I want something that isn't too fly-by-night, so I can be sure it'll last, and it's gotta have a little higher usability-quotient than I recall ICQ ever having. Ease of use on-par with AIM (so non-tech-savvy family can install it and set it up) is important, too. Any suggestions?

I signed up for an AOL account (don't ask) in March with a debit card that expired in March. I assumed it couldn't be charged after it expired. Then I left the country until December, only to discover on my return that it had indeed been charged after it expired. My bank is not willing to help beyond the last charge, and AOL says it can do this with no problem. Visa said I have to talk to my bank. Does anyone know what further recourse I might have? Are there laws I can cite?

I know speaking about AOL is not eCool, but ....it seems that AOL e-mails are delivered more frequently if I'm actually, actively doing something with AOL (e.g., sending e-mails, or using their web browser--which I don't do, but). Am I imagining this, and if not, is there any way to defeat what seems to be AOL's way of managing resources?

So it came to pass and I got my Treo 600. I've been using AOL 3.2.1 for Palm for a couple of weeks but now it won't let me log on to my master screen name. I'm apparently not alone on this, as discussed on this message board. AOL is not responding. Does anybody know of a fix? Thanks for your time. [more inside]

Isn't there a site or application which can monitor the times at which your chat/ messenger contacts are online? I've done some serious Googling and MeFi searching on this but have turned up nothing, so maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing.

In the last three days I've had 150 emails - 140 of which have been message failures from AOL. They think I've been sending spam emails from random addresses on my domain to random addresses on their domain.

Strangely, I've had no complaints from people about how I am spamming them, but the domain is non-obvious and not advertised on the web. What the hell is happening?

LINUX QUESTION: Due to my current financial situation, I have been forced into using AOL Broadband as my ISP. It ain't pretty but it works. Sort of.... (Here's where the question comes in.)

I really, really want to load Linux on my system but there's a bit of a snag. AOL does not automatically connect me to the Internet; I need to open their software and connect through it. I am wondering if it is at all possible to find a Linux version of the AOL software (the AOL homepage and internal sites have been no help, if the information is there it is very well hidden from my searching skills), or if there is another method of allowing my to connect to the Internet via my AOL broadband connection using Linux.

Conversion of AOL e-mail archives: When I was young I used AOL e-mail for one and a half year (AOL Version 3 on Win95). I still have this Win95-Box with a working installation of the AOL software and can access these mails one by one. Now a MacOSX user I'd like to import those archives into the Mail.app or make them at least accesible in some open text format. Any ideas? (I came across this service that claims to do just this, but I don't want to hand out my private e-mail archives).
