I've been pooing water for nearly 3 months now. My liver tests came back a month ago with the GGT being extremely high. I take a lot of prescription meds, and before the shitting-water problem was a heavy drinker. I've stopped drinking completely for several weeks now, but have yet to notice much of a change. I'm seeing the doctor again soon. What should I be thinking about/asking? [more inside]

Help me help my boyfriend. My boyfriend is caring, supportive and great in all the ways that matter, but I think he's depressed, and it's gotten past the point where he's willing to talk about it. He's said several times that he feels there's no way out, and while he's had brief spells of depression in the past and has been able to pull himself out of them, I'm worried that this time it's too deep for him to do it alone. I need help people. I'm very interested in some research about antidepressants and about how they inhibit love and feelings. There are many articles about this online but I'm having trouble finding any corroborating evidence from other researchers (everything that I've found lists Dr. Helen Fisher of Rutgers as the source). I'm also interested in any research that disputes this, other than that from the drug companies themselves, obviously. [more inside]

I have fought depression, anger, fatigue, lack of motivation (and more) for thirty years. I have taken so many psycho-pharmacological drugs that I couldn't list them all. One constant has been antidepressants. I've been taking Zoloft for ten years. It has left me with memory problems, brain fog, etc. I also take Klonopin (2mgs a day) and that leaves me feeling jittery if I miss it and has the "tolerance' effect of needing more and more. I have tried tapering the Zoloft - very slowly - but I am like a raging lunatic off of it. The Doctor says, "symptoms have returned." I say, "withdrawal," or as they like to call it with antidepressants: "discontinuance syndrome." Hey, if you freak out without it - I don't care what you call it, but withdrawal is what most people would think. The niceties of the semantics I'm not interested in.

I'm starting out on anti-depressants. My doctor has prescribed me venlafaxine (Effexor XR), an SNRI. I strongly suspect a dopamine reuptake inhibitor would be better suited for my condition and personality, but sadly, bupropion (Wellbutrin) isn't available as an anti-depressant in my country: only under the name Zyban (as a smoking cessation aid), which is not covered by insurance and hence very expensive. Are there any alternatives I should look into? [more inside]

I'm about to quit taking Zoloft, tapering down from 50 mg daily. I starting taking it because I was having problems dealing with a specific situation, which is now over, and because I tend towards depression. I'm a bit scared to quit. Any advice on quitting? What should I expect? Anecdotes welcome.

I'm going to have a cavity drilled on Tuesday. I've never had this done before and I'm terribly phobic of "procedures" (dental and otherwise), especially when I don't know what is involved. What exactly do they do when they drill out a cavity--step by step, what's involved? [more inside]

I've been taking Effexor for at least 5 years. Twice my doctor has tried to wean me off of it, but only horrible side effects happen- I cry, shiver, feel like I'm floating, become irritated, etc. The lowest dose is 37.5 mg. For about a month I was opening it up, dumping about half of the "sand" out, and swallowing the rest like my doctor suggested. I just got worse and worse. Has anyone successfully stopped taking Effexor?

Psychotropicdrugfilter:
I'm probably getting off Paxil after seven (!) years and I wonder:
(1) Anyone gone through the withdrawal syndromes and have any advice or heads up on what to expect? I'm terrified.
(2) I have had no "sexual" problems on Paxil. What anti-depressants should I stay away from if I really really want my libido intact?
I'm male and 29.
