Please help answer my computer question

I am living in a pretty shitty dorm without any wireless connection. They are also especially fearful of any downloading going on. Since I have to rely on their ethernet ports and they have all the pertinent information about my MAC address and my i.p. address is there a way for me to "anonymize" myself on their system if I should choose to partake in downloading a file (not an illegal one, of course) from bittorrent or even limewire. In particular I am looking for some opera records should be in the public domain and are probably located on bittorrent or bearshare.

Advice on privacy in simple terms please

What software should I use/purchase to protect my privacy on the internet?

(I'm sure this question has been asked before, but in my archive searches I couldn't find an answer in plain English that I could follow. Feel free to send me the link to any previous discussion on this!) In my ideal world, I could easily look at any website I wanted and no one would know that I had done so. Also, I'd like my email to be private and read only by the person I'm sending it to - although I understand that this is complicated by the receiver's security set-up). Finally, I'd like any downloading I do through BitTorrent etc. to be known only to me.

Is what I want even possible?

I know that there is a product called Anonymizer out there, but I don't know how it works or if it has a good reputation.

Sadly, I have a hard time following very technical explanations of this stuff, so the simpler your feedback for me, the better.

What is an "anonymizer" and what does it have to do with educational films?

What is an "anonymizer" and what does it have to do with educational films? I went to innocently browse some old public domain footage at archive.org, which I previously had no trouble accessing at work. Suddenly, the site has been blocked and the reason my company has given for restricting access is simply: "Anonymizer." I know Anonymizer is an Internet privacy company, but I'm not sure I understand it in this context, nor do I understand why my company would restrict access to this site and supply "anonymizer" as the sole reason. They naturally restrict access to gambling and porn sites, but why can't I view the thumbnails of old educational/social engineering films?

safe computer access of bank account

How would you go about accessing, via the web, your bank accounts and bill paying services while away from home and trusted computers for months at a time?

Does anyone have experience with Stealth Surfer and Roboform? Have you been able to use usb drives at public library's and/or internet cafes?

(Bonus question: how about downloading mp3s at a library or internet cafe?)

Does alcohol abuse equate to alcohol dependence?

From the brand new AxMe Anonymizer

"Is my friend an alcoholic?" [MI] "He only drinks maybe four times a year, but when he does, he gets REALLY REALLY drunk, does (and says)horrible things, blacks out, etc. He's incredibly touchy when it comes to talking about it. Immediately goes into denial, gets defensive, etc. (When he's not drunk, he's a sweetheart.)

Because when he DOES drink, he acts like an alcoholic, many people (who meet him for the first time when he's on one of these benders) assume that he *is* an alcoholic.

If it makes any difference, he's not a college student. He's in his 40s.

But can one really be an alcoholic when one drinks so infrequently? Don't alcoholics drink all the time?

Is "alcoholic" a fuzzy term, or is there a clear medical definition. Can a brain scan be done that determines whether or not someone is an alcoholic, or is it purely about behavior?"

(once again, this is not my [LimePi's] question, but a question from an anonymous MeFite)

Accessing a Movielink account from the UK?

My friend has just moved from the US to the UK. She still has a Movielink account, and would like to continue to download her movies. However, the Movielink site bounces her away, because of her UK IP. Anonymizer.com won't cut it. Any suggestions?
