What started as an overuse injury has bloomed into a shape-shifting pain octopus, over two and a bit years. I’m not sure which pains mean what, or what to emphasize with my rheumatologist. (Maybe this is about me and maybe it isn’t, but I’ll say it’s me for the purposes of this hypothetical question, and nobody’s my doctor, either.)

YANAD (or maybe you are), but a few weeks ago I suffered a fall from my horse and now there's a funny bump on my ankle. I will be going to my GP sometime soon but am still curious as to what it may be. Details inside.

Broken tibia & fibula, 3.5 months ago, clean snap. I got an intramedullary rod in the tibia, screws at the ankle and knee, and absolutely no recommendations for PT other than some exercises to do at home from the doctor. Everything else seems to have healed well enough, but - my big toe ain't movin', and it's stuck in permanent "up".

The medial side of my ankle hurts during the first two minutes of walking around each morning. The pain quiets down after 2 minutes or so of moving around. I've had plantar fasciitis before; this feels different.

This woman in her twenties gets her left ankle sprained every few months. It's very painful, and she does the ice-compression-elevate thing. She wants to reduce the reoccurance of this without wearing a brace forever. Do you have any advice?

That's it. I've had it. My delicate ballerina ankles get sprained if I step on a piece of string the wrong way. I just sprained the right one again today and enough is enough. I'm going to try to put a plan into action that I thought about a couple years ago. I want to get an ankle brace, maybe even custom-made, that I can wear regularly to prevent this from happening so much.
