At a younger age I vaugely remember watching an animated movie which greatly disturbed me for years as I didn´t understand it, and could not understand what was being portrayed other than the film appeared to be EVIL. (Note: I don´t remember very much of the film visually but I do remember alot emotionally, as such I am really groping trying to piece together what I saw as opposed to what might have been imagined.) A question for anime/manga experts.

This is something I saw as a child, and have on occasion wondered about ever since. My regular Saturday/morning cartoons were pre-empted one day by a Japanese cartoon-- I remember it being as long as a feature movie, but that could easily be a trick of memory-- and I was absolutely enthralled with it; but I tuned in part way through, never got the name, and never discovered what it might have been. The year would have been around 1967 (earliest) to 1970 (latest). (MI) [more inside]

I was trying to find a good animated TV show/miniseries to watch, and got to wondering why there are virtually no non-japanese non-kids/comedy animated series to be found? I'm sick of "anime" - does anyone have any ideas as to why Japan has cornered this market so completely, or better yet know of any non-japanese shows/series for me to check out? I'm into scifi and adventure stuff.
