Animated Character Question.

Who is this animated character I keep seeing? I keep seeing this animated character used as an avatar. It was also on a girl's shirt on MTV. I am just curious as to what it is, and it's difficult to find something on Google by just describing visual characteristics.

I want to find a video I saw on YouTube about a year ago. It was a short animation about a pig with a song in Spanish. What is it called? I can't believe that I can't remember the name of this video. It was a sad, sad story about a pig being sent off to slaughter, and during the chorus (which I think was describing the pig escaping to safety, although I'm not sure) the pig was running away happily. But it was only a dream.

The video was animated simply, and it was in black and white. The song was (I think) in Spanish.

A few years ago I saw a music video with a female singer whose face had been blue screened into a animated scifi setting. The video was very cool despite its somewhat "Clutch Cargo" (or Johnny Chimpo if you prefer) vibe.

Anybody have any idea what song it is?

Strange Sci-Fi Animated Film

A while back, on this site, some lovely soul posted a YouTube link of a very strange full-length animated sci-fi film from the 70s. The story involved men being kept as playthings/servants by a giant race on a strange planet. The humans wore some sort of collar that restricted their movements. It was a very unusual film, quite obviously NOT North American. I believe the original film was French and that it had not been available for many years.

Can anyone recall the name of this film?

Much thanks :)

Where can I view the Best Animated Short Oscar nominees online? Every year I watch the Oscars and I see these incredibly short clips of some astounding looking animated shorts. Is there some website where I can find/download them?
More broadly, is there any "package" of Oscar nominated/Oscar winning films?

Best software for animated vector illustrations?

What is the best software that can be used to create a vector animation of a business process for use in a video? (MI) What is the "gold standard" software for creating animated vector illustrations? I'm creating a one-minute animation of a business process flow that will be used in a video? I have (via software lab) access to just about any imaginable program and (because of my current life status) the time and interest to learn how to do it myself.

The end result will be based on a cartoon storyboard, but I don't want it to look cartoon-y. It should be a slick illustration (and I'll do some post-processing on it separately).

I've seen Synfig in this context, but I'm not sure if it's simply the most popular based on the price (free).

By "gold standard" I mean the equivalent of Photoshop for still pixel images; Photoshop is the standard for that market, what's the standard for this one?

Thanks!

Best. TV. ad. ever. (if it actually exists)

SurrealTelevisionAdFilter: Did my friend really see an ad in which a family reacts in abject terror when the cartoon sun character on the juice bottle comes to life at their breakfast table? It sounds like something Saturday Night Live would have done as a spoof ad, but my friend swears she saw it on Telemundo roughly 10 years ago during daytime soaps (telenovelas). (And no, she was not under the influence of any mind-altering substances at the time.) She described it as a mother and two kids in a typical breakfast table setting, featuring a bottle of something like Sunny Delight whose label has a sun with a face. And, as usually happens in such ads, at a certain point the little sun comes to life and starts talking to them. Instead of the "usual" reaction though, the kids start screaming and crying and the mother, terrified for her children, tries frantically to shield them and get them away from the apparition.

I truly hope this ad exists because I would love to see it (and would love to be able to reunite my friend with it). So far, though, my google and youtube searches haven't yielded any trace of such a thing. Please help me, hive mind! Do you have a copy of this ad, or do you know where I might find it (or even some reference to its existence)?

I suppose HyperrealTelevisionAdFilter would be a more apt description, since terror is certainly a more realistic reaction than glee to an illustrated character that spontaneously animates at your table while you're trying to eat breakfast.

Help me reduce the file size for Adobe ImageReady CS animated gif. I was asked to create an animated email banner in either gif or jpeg, at 468x60 pixels and only 15 kB, looping three times only. I created a layered Photoshop file with one image and some text layers (all 72 dpi). As this is my first time using ImageReady, I am getting a file that is ten times larger than needed (156 kB). My attempts at "optimization" and whatnot have proven fruitless. Anyone care to assist me and get this thing wrangled down to 15 k?

Help me identify this animated Jack & The Beanstalk film from the 70s/80s... I remember watching this sometime in the late 70s or early 80s. It was the basic Jack & The Beanstalk foundation, but once Jack climbed up the beanstalk he encountered a beautiful singing princess being held captive in the castle by an evil witch and her dumb giant. Jack rescues the princess and foils the witch's evil intent.

And for some reason, it scared the bejeezus out of me as a child.

A Raccoon, A Rabbit, and An Owl

Help me identify an old animated movie that involved a raccoon, a rabbit, and an owl. When I was growing up (late 80s early 90s), I used to watch this animated movie whose main characters were a raccoon, a rabbit, and an owl. I don't remember much else about the movie except these two scenes:

* Somewhere in the beginning they walk down a staircase in a treasure chest to a different "world"

* Somewhere near the ending they pass by a place that is full of coloured Easter Eggs

This was my favourite childhood movie for a long time, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. For a while I thought I hallucinated the whole thing, but then two years ago I watched a Christmas TV show that had the same characters, but in CG. (Plus a wolf that had to choose between his wolfy instincts and his values, or something like that.)

Does anyone know the movie I am talking about? Help resolve this childhood mystery.

Help me remember a short movie

ShortMovieFilter: need help identifying and locating a quirky animated movie I saw years ago on the Internet. It's been a while, so I may be short on the details. The basic plot of the movie goes something like this. A miserable and depressed guy is working a dead-end job in a factory. When he's not working at the factory, he spends his time inventing some gizmo. Said gizmo goes public with great success, and the former factory grunt becomes a wealthy factory owner himself. The movie ends with the former grunt as the evil factory owner, and cuts to another assembly-line grunt looking similarly depressed.

Again, it's been years, so I am reasonably sure that I screwed up at least some of the details. Does anyone remember this at all?

Looking for a Japanese GIF

Japanese animated gif search filter... Trying to find an animated gif I once saw. It was on a Japanese website - possibly linked from Metafilter - that was some sort of meme back in the day. Maybe in the past 2-3 years. Possibly a site about cat helmets/headdresses.

It was a transparent gif featuring a line drawn cartoon. It was a beige colour and featured a potato, or potato shaped thing running down the street towards the viewer, cars passed at one point, and it "spoke" as Japanese (Chinese?) symbols appeared as if in a speech bubble. It lasted maybe 15 seconds and seemed to have a storyline, and it had an intoxicatingly happy vibe about it.

If anyone knows what I am talking about, do reply. Extra points for anyone that just posts the damn thing in the thread as their answer.

Animated Movie Dvd Extras

Any suggestions for animation dvds with good extras? Specifically, I'm interested in finding animated movies on dvd that include pencil tests and/or footage of the voice actors. The more extensive the better. I'm interested in learning more about the behind the scenes world of animation. I have loads of books, and have enjoyed the dvds I have, but would like MeFiers opinions on the best sources for dvd extras. The Pixar dvds have excellent supplemental material (Monsters Inc, Incredibles, Finding Nemo, etc). What I'd really love is some dvds that have lots of footage of the voice actors actually recording their parts, and/or pencil tests of the early animation. Any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Favourites?

(Oh, and if anyone else reading this is interested in voice acting, there is a link to Mark Evanier's great site on the subject in this Ask MeFi thread. It's fairly way down; just search for "Evanier")
