animated 1970s tv series about U.S. History? this is NOT the schoolhouse rock episodes. the one i am remembering was more serious, working through historical situations with animated scenes. the episode i remember most vividly was about the British burning the white house. does anyone else remember this series and what the name of it was?? might have been made around the bicentennial, but not sure.

Is there a program that would allow me to display an animated .gif on a Windows desktop? I envision it as looking similar to Windows' Slide Show widget, with a simple border, but with the ability to display the animated image file.

Looking for a short animated film -- possibly from a Spike n' Mike's collection. I think it's called The Gift or something like that. The main character is a man who lives by himself in some barren, isolated place -- probably outer space. His only companion is a sorta-anthropomorphized tomato plant. The man is starving and has nothing to eat. When his back is turned, the tomato plant produces a tomato, but he doesn't see it, so he (sadly, reluctantly) eats the tomato plant. Later, he sees the tomato and realizes that he didn't have to eat his friend. This is the saddest film ever! Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. I've been looking for it forever, but can't seem to find it. Any idea what it's called or where I can find it?

Anybody remember the name of an animated film from the 1990's about a bird that escaped from a cage? Was very detailed and colorful, with lots of intricate patterns and ornamentation on things. I think it aired on VH1 (back when it still played music) and was French Canadian based on the credits. Story was engaging and very easy to follow, although nobody spoke. Emotion and plot were conveyed strictly through music.

Looking for a way to convert an Animated GIF to a format suitable for uploading to YouTube, while also preserving the blocky pixel nature of the GIF. I would prefer something free that works on a Mac, but any suggestions that are cheap for mac or windows would be appreciated.

MovieFilter: does anyone remember an animated film about a couple who were magically turned into a heron and an egret? It might have aired on American cable TV in the 1990's, but I have no idea about its origins.

It's an animated short from (probably)
Liquid Television in the early nineties. It's got explorers on ships that find a new world and change the natives with religion and money. It's backed by an old song in Spanish from a scratchy record that I can remember no words to.

This has been driving me crazy, and I'm obviously a weaker google user than I thought. I used to watch a cartoon on Saturday mornings and I have no idea what it was, or even if it was real. My recollection is hazy and may incorporate any number of other childhood memories and red herring elements, but I'm hoping someone can help me out!

Long-shot: I'm looking for an animated short from the 80's. It involves a very young boy who was accidentally drafted into the army, and nobody seems to recognize that he doesn't belong there. I believe it was on a collection of award winners from some film festival. Thanks!

A few years ago I saw a music video with a female singer whose face had been blue screened into a animated scifi setting. The video was very cool despite its somewhat "Clutch Cargo" (or Johnny Chimpo if you prefer) vibe.
Anybody have any idea what song it is?

A while back, on this site, some lovely soul posted a YouTube link of a very strange full-length animated sci-fi film from the 70s. The story involved men being kept as playthings/servants by a giant race on a strange planet. The humans wore some sort of collar that restricted their movements. It was a very unusual film, quite obviously NOT North American. I believe the original film was French and that it had not been available for many years.
Can anyone recall the name of this film?
Much thanks :)

I was trying to find a good animated TV show/miniseries to watch, and got to wondering why there are virtually no non-japanese non-kids/comedy animated series to be found? I'm sick of "anime" - does anyone have any ideas as to why Japan has cornered this market so completely, or better yet know of any non-japanese shows/series for me to check out? I'm into scifi and adventure stuff.
