Is it a good idea to drive out of LA on friday 23rd may for SFO bwn 4-6 pm, if we avoid highways? -- we are driving to SFO for memorial weekend. we cannot leave before 5 due to work. some friends advised us to start at 8-9 pm due to traffic. Is it a good idea instead to leave at 5 pm but avoid highways till we get out of LA and then get onto I-5?

Four 19yos coming to Los Angeles within two weeks. Their privately arranged accommodations in South/Central suddenly unavailable. Me = mother of one and friend of the SC LA host. Any suggestions? (4 kids flying in for 3-4 days, midwest clean-cut... not me but them) [more inside]

I'm desperate to find a furnished, safe and clean apartment to rent for the month of april in los angeles, as close to silverlake as possible for my parents. April is my kid's 1st birthday and grandma and grandpa want to come down from Canada and celebrate. Hotels are too expensive, my place is too small. where do I look for short-term apartment rentals in LA?

I'm going to LA for the first week of June to visit a friend. Unfortunately she wasn't able to get any time off that week so it looks like I am going to most of my sight seeing solo. I have a basic itinerary (Getty, Disney Concert Hall, Studio Tours, etc.) but is there anything off the beaten path that I shouldn't miss? Is there anything on the beaten path that I am better off avoiding?
