Any $100k recession-proof business startup ideas?

My buddy just landed $100k and we both want to start a business...Any recession-proof business startup suggestions? He's got a little time to work, but I have a lot more time.

I work as a tech consultant for startups so you would think I would have a great idea for us to invest in. But I dont...I am good at starting businesses from an administrative standpoint (state filings, accounting, technical setup, websites, emails etc), but don't have actionable ideas with a lump sum of money.

I have considered buying established business (searching places like bizbuysell) as well as online businesses through flippa.com, but have a problem with the real valuation of a company. Plus from what I have seen on flippa, if a site is netting 10k/month, they want at least 120k/year...and its hard to judge the validity of their numbers and growth potential.

And we dont care about the stigma of the industry (ie adult).

I am writing a fictional story about someone who lives in the slums of some small South American country. When he was ten, during a fever, an angel appeared to him and told him that he would become an FBI Agent. He may have seen a movie with FBI agents, so he has some sense of what that means. Step by step, what does he have to do to fulfill that prophecy in a real way? I recognize that there are many challenges my character faces - reaching the age of majority, immigration, citizenship, money and resources, background checks, that sort of thing. But I am a little unsure as to the exact steps to follow for someone to completely transform their life in this way. Can anyone help? Any sort of feedback regarding any step in this process would be appreciated.

Trying to remember the name of a Young Adult or children's series about guardian angels. I remember reading a few books when I was a kid (early nineties) about a girl and her guardian angels. One of them shows up as a man named "Galen" (anagram of angel). She had a collection of glass angel figurines, I believe, and may have ridden horses as well. I've googled and haven't found anything.

Gift ideas for a 14-year-old girl and 69-year-old woman we've never met? My wife and I decided to donate gifts through the Salvation Army's Angel Tree this year. Each angel card lists a need and a wish, but we would like to do a little more than the minimum. We want to make this a great as we can, so we thought we'd draw on the hive mind. This is all we know:

69-year-old female, Kathy
Need: House shoes(small)
Wish: Bath robe(small)

We're a little reluctant to do anything like a bath set, given that scent is really subjective and there's always the possibility of allergies.

14-year-old female, Chelsie
Need: Coat
Wish: handheld game

We went all-out for starters here, and picked up a pink DS, Nintendogs, and New Super Mario Bros. What could be more awesome if you're 14 and aren't expecting much out of the holiday? We were thinking maybe some jewelry from Claire's/Icing/etc, or perhaps a popular teen book(Twilight? suggestions?). Also, my wife would like to encourage artistic endeavours without bashing her over the head with the idea. She's a little old for crayons and coloring books(we also sponsored a 4 year old boy and 7 year old girl this year, crayons/coloring books were perfect there), so what would you suggest?

I'm looking for some films/TV shows that revolve around the concept of family, especially the "created family". I loved Buffy. I loved Angel. I really really loved Firefly. I also quite liked Six Feet Under. Fraiser was kind of interesting. But I hated the Soprano's.

What films or TV shows might I like, where the central theme is a group of disparate strangers being lumped together to form a cohesive unit - a "family"?

The outside details (being in a spaceship/fighting monsters/whatever) aren't vitally important. If the shows are available to rent on DVD (in the UK, though I figure that shouldn't be too much of an issue), that would be great too.

BuffyFilter! I need a name for a blog about Buffy. Calling all Buffy fans. Please suspend any and all criticism of how this may have already been done to death (because I know it has), but, let's say two friends were going to start a blog of episode reviews, critiques and random chatter about Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the television series, NOT the movie) and possibly Angel. It plans to be smart, interesting, fun and not take itself too seriously. It would also be a kind of point-counterpoint, which each contributer offering his/her opinions (rather than two people writing in one unified voice if you catch me).

What names would you suggest for the blog? Ideally it would be a play on a Buffyism. That said, we would think about something totally unrelated to a Buffyism if it was a rad idea. (Although a play on a quote, plotline, character or something else from the Buffyverse seems to be where we're headed).

We'd love any ideas that that would also be sort of descriptive of the blog, of criticism, of writing, etc. For example, "Strangely Literal," is a phrase taken from a line of dialog that fits well with the medium of blogging or with the idea of thinking about/critiquing a t.v. show. I don't know if that really gets the idea across. If it totally doesn't let me know and I will pipe in again.

I'm not sure if people would want credit for their idea if its used, but I don't see why that would be a problem.

I know this is a tall order so anything and everything is very appreciated.

Is Moonlight Worth Watching?

I'm already following Chuck and The Big Bang Theory (via paid XBOX Live downloads to avoid commercials), and I'm looking to add another new series as well. I've been thinking about starting with Moonlight, but the unoriginality of the basic premise (Forever Knight and Angel both did it first) is rather offputting, especially since I still haven't quite gotten over the cancellation of Angel. Is the series worth watching on its own merits, or should I give it a pass? To clarify, I would hesitate to ask a question of this nature in this forum, except that due to my aversion to commercials watching this series will cost me money.

Chicago Movie/TV Fandoms (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, BSG, Trek, Gen Scifi)?

How can I get in touch with television and movie fandom in Chicago? I wanted to follow up on an earlier question of mine in which I asked for Chicago geek group activities/social events. Although I got a satisfactory bunch of answers, I thought I might expand on it a little more and see if I might get some additional pointers that weren't touched upon in the original question's answer.

Specifically, I'm wondering about Chicago geek culture as it centers around some television and movie fandoms — for example, Buffy, Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Battlestar Galactica (current series), and Trek — and/or general science fiction/fantasy fandom (such as those who like Asimov, Bradbury, etc.).

Essentially, if you think of the wide array of geekdom that you might find at a science fiction convention, that's the kind of groups and people I'd like to meet up with. (Similarly, if there's a website which offers a good, thorough listing of upcoming Chicago conventions, that'd be cool, too.)

(I'm interested in non-fandom Chicago socialization, too, but I've found good resources about that, including my own earlier question, this Ask Mefi question, and a few good Chicago resources (example). I'm just having some trouble digging stuff up on those particular areas. Although Meetup.Com has yielded some leads to follow, I'm thinking Ask Mefi's wisdom of the commons might yield some more reliable suggestions and or tips.

The wife and I are big fans of Dexter. Can anyone identify this hat and/or shirt? I'm guessing the shirt Dexter wears is some sort of Henley, (at least that's what my wife is calling it), and I might be able to find something like it at Abercrombie, Old Navy, etc. Angel's hat is a different story. I have no clue where to look. I always thought it looked like black leather, but another pic I found has him wearing something very different. It looks on the show like he only wears one hat, so that may be it. Anyone know where to find anything like in either of the photos?

Girl with burnt angel wings - what's the movie called?

Vaguely remembered movie filter: Girl is dressed as angel, running from a fire (house is burning down). Her wings are singed. She gets picked up by a cop (this happens right at the beginning of the movie). The rest of the movie goes back to tell the story of how she got there.
Any guesses as to what it could be?

Where do I find lists of Ukranian and Israeli Web developers with own Web services/products? Specifically I'm interested in researching Web services/applications that have been developed by non-native English speakers from Israel and the Ukraine -- for potential angel investment. I've found a few through download.com -- clicking through to Web sites of software firms represented there (and finding Web projects or services). But this is a hit/miss approach and I'm wondering if there are any legit. lists or directories of these types of firms.

I've searched google's directory, but find lots of Web design companies -- relatively few with services they've developed and own outright.

Especially interested in Ruby.

Buffy and Angel

I've recently become addicted to Buffy. But now I am up to season four and have a dilemma. I am planning on going back and forth between Buffy and Angel, but I don't know which to watch first, since they appear to have aired on the same night. I know there are some crossover episodes, so I don't want to mess that up. Could somebody tell me which order to watch in? P.S. I tried a little googling, but I got scared when the first link I selected had some damn spoilers.

Standard Religious Iconography to Show Subject is Demonic/Unholy?

In religious iconography, there are standardized symbols to depict "holiness" in figures--haloes, rays, flames, those little horns on Moses's forehead, etc. Are there equivalent "anti-haloes" for demonic/unholy icons? Any links to examples would be appreciated. Non-western examples welcome.
