I seem to be perpetually anemic, but my doc does not support my continuing to supplement with iron beyond bringing my lab numbers into the very low end of normal. Experiences, advice? [more inside]

What does having low blood platelets mean? I went for a check-up a couple weeks ago (it's only a few months before I reach the big 30) with a new doc. The doc I usually go to left my insurance company and the new one I was assigned was booked for months, so I just randomly found one to go to.) I was told everything checked out except my blood platelet count was 119, and that I need to come in and get re-checked. [more inside]

My doctor's office called back with my bloodwork results for anemia and I tried to write down all the information (just for my own curiosity) but I wasn't quite fast enough to get it all. Can someone tell me what part of your blood work a 'normal person has 13-150?' [more inside]

Feline anemia. Our youngish (4 year old) male short-haired domestic began feeling lethargic about a month ago. We took him to the veterinarian yesterday. He had a red-blood-cell count of 8% and was prescribed dioxycycline (to get rid of any possible infections causing the anemia) and prednisone (to suppress the immune system, preventing destruction of the few remaining red blood cells the poor guy has). Questions: Any experiences with feline anemia? Prognoses? Advice? Anything will help! Thanks!

I have a four year old son who simply refuses to eat his meals in a timely fashion. This has been an ongoing problem since he was two years old and we've been trying various approaches, but have mainly been hoping that he grows out of it. But it's at the point that every single meal has become unpleasant because of his refusal to eat. [more inside]

My 11 yr old has iron deficient anemia related to colitis. I have been giving him a liquid iron supplement but it makes him feel nauseous. I have also tried pills - same result. I've tried administering multiple small doses - same result. Diet is as iron rich as I can make it. Does anytone have any suggestions as to how to increase his iron intake without this annoying (and uncomfortable) side effect?
