I think the time has come for me to jump the iPhone ship. The announcement of the Google version of the Galaxy S4 at I/O was the clincher. But I am not 100% sold on the idea, mainly because the S4 is an ugly brute, but also because I fear for the apps and innovation I will miss. Help me out, specifically in finding a worthy replacement for my beloved Mailbox app. [more inside]
While shopping for a case for my new Android tablet I came across this photo. I like the cutesy look of the game on screen - can anyone identify it (if it's not just a mockup for marketing purposes)? Thanks!

So I just got this phone fairly recently, it's an android HTC 1x+ and while I love it a lot, I've been running into 2 issues which really bring the whole experience down for me. How can I stop my phone from reloading each page every time I switch tabs and how can I keep my place when it switches from portrait mode to landscape and back? [more inside]

I use Dolphin as my default browser on my Samsung Galaxy S3. I've just noticed that italics don't show up in Dolphin. (Screenshot.) They do show up in the stock browser. (Screenshot.) I can't find a setting anywhere that indicates why the <em> tag isn't showing. Help? Here's the about screen for my phone, and for Dolphin, if those are helpful.

I have had a reasonably happy relationship with my T-Mobile G2 (aka HTC Desire Z) these past two years, but my contract is up, and I have long coveted the iPhone, mostly based on its picture taking and video chatting capabilities. Should I just get one and take advantage of T-Mobile's new pricing? Or should I jump to a new carrier? An attempt to make this less open-ended is inside. [more inside]
I am getting a Tablet for work, either a Nexus 10 or an iPad. I'm pretty well versed on the features and drawbacks for both, and I feel like if my other devices were either all Apple or all Google/Windows I'd make the choice based on matching my current device operating system ecosystem. BUT right now, each device I use has a different OS, so is there a better device to match my tablet operating system with? [more inside]
I'm back in the web software development world after about 7 years selling already developed software. Mobile software development barely existed the last time I talked to a client about development projects. I understand the web side of things just fine still. Mobile I'm clueless on. Is there a good book or maybe website(s) that will help get me up to speed, and stay there? I'm running sales, so I'm not going to be writing any code. [more inside]
I'm trying to find my way around Flipboard on my Android phone. I like it so far, except that I kind of really hate Cover Stories. It takes up 2/3 of the screen and it mainly includes stories that people in my Facebook and Twitter feeds have shared. This isn't stuff that I usually think of as the most important or interesting news of the day, and if I just want to see what people are saying on Facebook, I'll go to Facebook. Is there any way to hide or move the Cover Stories board so it's not the main feature of the first page, or at least customize it so that it shows, maybe, aggregated news from the newspapers and magazines I subscribe to and not so many pictures of my friends' kids? Or are there any aggregator apps for Android that still pull in a variety of sources but offer more customization?
Is there an integrated system that will let me digitize scraps of paper very quickly? The intended use case would be removing the paper clutter from a busy person's desk. Household uses Linux, Android phones, an iPad and a Mac. [more inside]

A favourite evening activity for my wife and I is playing board games. I've been thinking for a while now that a lot of the things that are fun about board games ought to translate very well to tablet games. So I'm looking for suggestions for Android games that fit a few criteria: [more inside]

iPhone user; I've experimented with exercise logging apps such as MapMyRide+, Cyclemeter and Fitocracy (most of my exercise is cycling-oriented, but I'm also looking at Kinect exercise games and, potentially, weightlifting). On Android, is there a way in any of the available browsers to turn off honoring <meta name = "viewport" content = "initial-scale = x.x, user-scalable = no">? I'm sick of designers that don't want me to zoom in on their preciously designed mobile site.

Can I access my music in the Google Play Music cloud with something other than the Google Play Music app? [more inside]
People keep emphasizing that a major advantage of Nexus mobile phones is that Google will update them to the latest version of Android. But does it really make a huge difference going from a .x to .x+1 Android release when you have so many apps that can modify every aspect of your phone, not to mention what you can do with alternative firmware like CyanogenMod?

Is there a way to search for Android apps that have "appropriate" permission requests? [more inside]
Android apps seem to grab permissions that I have no desire to give them. My understanding is that the permissions per app are all bundled together: it's all or nothing. At least officially. Is there another way? Also, is there a privacy watchdog site that will help me find apps that actually respect my privacy and support/purchase them over those that do not? [more inside]

I'm looking for some quick games I can play on my android phone, for when I'm waiting five minutes or dozing off at night. Examples of games I've liked and disliked inside. [more inside]

Android Appfilter: I have been reading about humanity's sleep schedule (polyphasic sleep) before industrialization and the eight hour day. I need a new phone! However, in looking at the available options, I am finding myself mired in analysis paralysis (not to mention a lot of "junk" websites full of keyword matches but zero useful content). I have a Google Voice account and phone number, and from my desktop I am able to send & receive SMS (google.com/voice) and even make outgoing calls (gmail.com). I just got a Nexus 7, and would like to find the 'Google Voice' app, but I'm not able to. What am I missing? [more inside]
My Nexus 7 has become a near-indispensable kitchen tool, and I'd like to find a way to mount it in the kitchen so I can use it more easily while cooking. I have zero counter space available, so a stand is out, and I can't mount it on the underside of a cabinet, either. Safe wall space is close to zero, too, so I guess that leaves me with the fridge. Are there any decent fridge-mounting systems for the Nexus 7 or other 7" tablets? Ideally I'd like something that allows me to easily insert and remove the tablet, since it won't live in the kitchen all the time. I could probably DIY this but I'm working on so many other household projects I'd really like to be able to buy an out-of-the-box solution and be done with it, though I'd be willing to add magnets to a great non-magnetic mount.

Twice recently my Gmail acct. has been hijacked by someone who is sending spam emails to some, but not contacts --seems to be only recently emailed (by me) people. The spam is an ad, as seen on Fox News for Raspberry drops weight loss aid. How do the spammers access my Gmail account? Could it be through my brand new Android cell phone? I am unaware of any other problems on my (Macbook) home computer. I have a secure WiFi router at home. No evidence malware or virus. I've changed my Gmail password, FWIW. Any suggestions on how/where to find a way from this happening again?
