Please help me get the best out of my Android tablet when offline

How to make an application work again on a Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet?

My Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet updated itself yesterday. I was in a hurry and did not pay attention to what was actually happening but when it had finished updating, certain apps no longer worked, notably Chrome, Kindle, VLC and the Sims Freeplay game. They started and then closed immediately. I uninstalled and reinstalled the first 3 apps, losing any parameters set previously, no big deal, but I don't want to lose my Sims (or more precisely my young daughter doesn't). [more inside]

Android App Search

Android App Search Question: I'm looking for a specific type of Android app (a music player which has a large "time elapsed" display). I'm new to the world of apps, and am completely confused as to how to sort the apps in the Play Store and even begin to narrow down the options. It looks like the only search criteria are "Free" or "Paid" - either way, I get like a bajillion returns. Am I missing something? How do folks either (a) narrow down your searches, or (b) navigate the overwhelming choice?

Silent wireless charging on Android 4.2.2?

I just purchased a Motorola Droid Maxx, and I was excited about wireless charging, but there's a hitch- there is a loud beep from the phone when one starts wireless charging. It is annoying and prevents me from using the wireless charger at home, as the sound would likely wake my wife. I've done some looking, but so far, I haven't found a solution. I'm hoping someone will have some ideas. [more inside]

How to make Firefox for Android always show the title bar?

Since updating Firefox on my smartphone yesterday, it has a new UI feature - if I scroll down in a page, it hides the title bar and the icon which lets me access open tabs. Best Android phone for an alarm clock

Best Android app for Twitter?

I've used Tweetdeck on my Android phone for as long as I can remember, but I read they were phasing it out a few months ago (since Twitter bought them) and as of lunchtime yesterday my app has finally stopped updating. I'm looking for an Android MP3 player that has both swipe/gesture controls AND the ability to easily star rate songs. Best Android Apps for Children Ages 3-7?

Looking for fun and possibly educational Android (not IOS) apps for kids ages 3 to 7. I just bought my almost 7-year-old an Android tablet and gave my 3-year-old my old Android phone, but I don't have any apps for them besides Angry Birds and Cut the Rope. There were some tips in this previous question, but it's already a little dated. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of apps are only for the iPhone/iPad platform. My whole family is about to leave on a long overseas trip, so I need some great apps to occupy their time. Thanks for the ideas!

Android tablet apps for my grandfather?

My 80-year-old grandfather has a Nexus tablet, and he wants me to find apps for him. I have no idea what to get him, and I don't think he does, either: he just wants neat things to do with it, though he's not at all tech-savvy. What might I download for him? This may be a tall order: I'm looking for apps that are preferably free, intuitive to use, and that aren't too complex or intricate. Most games are probably right out (though he likes card games, and may like similarly simple ones). Even the act of entering a search in YouTube is tricky for him. Any ideas of what I could find for him to download?

How to get a map from Google maps to an Android phone?

The situation: I'm running Android 2.3.5 on my phone, using the Google Maps app version 6.14.4. Via the desktop, I've created a map with custom directions from Point A to Point B.

The problem: I can't find a way to get the map with the edited directions to my phone. I can save the map with the directions to a Google account, which normally would mean that I could log into that Google account on my phone and download it that way. However, I don't have the necessary software on my phone that will enable me to log into a Google account. "Account and Sync settings" is missing. I can't seem to edit directions from within the Google Maps app on my phone, either. [more inside]

iOS to Android guy - Questions!

Everywhere on the web there is discussion of B&N's great deal on the Nook HD+ for Father's Day. I took the bite and picked up the 16GB (comes w/micro sd port). So far, so good.
