I want to get a pre-paid android phone asap (for a trip), but I also want to be able to use it at home and my house is at the bottom of a hill and has no to poor coverage. I'm thinking that wi-fi calling may be a solution. [more inside]
I just set up a Chromecast. Casting from the Chrome browser on my Windows PC works fine, as does Youtube on my Android phone (Droid Maxx running 4.4.4). No other apps (tried Netflix, Google Play Music & Movies, and HBOGo) work (won't even show the cast icon). I also tried Netflix with an iPad (running iOS 7, but not the latest version) and it didn't allow me to cast either. But I am able to successfully see the Chromecast device from both my phone and iPad using the Chromecast app. What might be the problem?
I own an old Samsung Galaxy SII Android phone. I've recently cancelled its 3G plan, so now it accesses the Internet exclusively through Wifi. This has apparently caused its GPS function to stop working when it's out of range of a Wifi network, which I hadn't expected. I'd like to resume using it as a mobile GPS device without re-purchasing a 3G plan. Do you know whether this can be done? [more inside]
Is there a text app that lets me receive multimedia messages and group messages without using my data plan? [more inside]
I want to be able to treat my android wifi hotspot like a router and moderate the content that I can access through it. Is there something like a hosts file I can use? I want to block distracting websites. [more inside]
I want an app that I install on my Droid 3 phone that'll find my computer on my home wireless network and which I can point to my music folder and stream. [more inside]

WiFi data issues. My phone (Android) connects to the network and I can log in to the server, but I'm not getting any internet. I'm a bit lost here; I've got access to every setting imaginable, but I dont know what I'm doing. Any help very much appreciated! If I had any hair, I'd be tearing it out. [more inside]
I got them ol' wifi blues: I took the plunge and bought a Nexus 7, primarily to use for reading textbooks. While it works great on my home wifi, at school, it is unable to connect (apparently Jelly Bean and enterprise wifi don't play nice). Can you help me identify what's causing the problem and fix it? I've had a smart phone (android nexus one) for a few years now, but have always gotten by with wifi access only. I just recently bit the bullet on 3g access. So what new things can I do now with my phone with my newfound wandering internet access?
Seriously considering buying Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V (android 2.2) phone tomorrow, would/will be my first foray into any phone even beginning to resemble smart. My main question: how difficult is this phone to set up to use Google Voice telephone number over wi-fi, calls in-bound and out. [more inside]

Probably a stupid Droid question: My Motorola Atrix will connect to open (unsecured) WiFi networks, but I am unable to load web pages. Can't even perform a simple Google search. There must be an option somewhere that I can't locate. Any ideas? [more inside]
What hardware / software do I need exactly to use my Samsung Epic 4G (android) to tether my first generation ipad? I prefer to do this without jailbreaking my phone (but am open to jailbreaking ipad). [more inside]
Is there an Android app that will automatically switch on mobile data when I can't access the internet through the wifi connection?
I'm looking for an Android wifi manager app for my HTC Sensation 4G with a specific feature. When my phone thinks it's connected to a wifi network, it automatically turns off mobile data, which makes sense, as long as it's actually connected. Unfortunately, sometime there's something wrong with the wifi connection or the connection is really crappy, and I can't actually access the internet through it. This means that unless I go turn off wifi, I can't access the internet at all. Is there an app that will automatically switch on mobile data when I can't access the internet through the wifi connection?
Is it possible to turn an original Motorola Droid into a mobile wireless hotspot by rooting it? If so, what's the easiest way to do that? [more inside]
What's a newer Android phone on t-mob where you can use a wifi-sharing program (a common one that I've seen free online) to create a wi-fi hotspot? Not trying to get anything related to this from t-mob directly. I just want a newer Android phone that is capable of this, if such a thing exists. I'm assuming that said phone would have an option for an unlimited data plan.
