I've got a brand new phone with a broken sim slot, that's been deemed repairable. I've been given a refund for the phone but they left the unit with me instead of taking it back. So, I've got a Motorola android phone that can connect to Wifi and do everything a phone without a sim card can do, and no idea what to do with it. Any ideas? [more inside]

Yesterday my wife got a new phone and kept her number, so her old phone is deactivated. We didn't back up her WhatsApp chats, so we can't restore her old messages from backup. Is there a way to transfer them? [more inside]
I have an Android phone. I would like to be able to type on a normal keyboard with it. I would like this keyboard not to break instantly. I would like to not spend more than say $30-$50 but if that's not reasonable, fine. Your suggestions?
I want to do something like "Airplane mode" only for biking. I want to be able to toggle a group of settings every time I go for a bike ride, without having to check each one individually. The goal would be to press one button at the start of the ride and then undo it all at the end. [more inside]
I live in Australia. When I start typing an address or landmark into my android phone on the google maps app, the top suggestions Google gives until my typing is complete are 99% NZ places, mostly from the parts of New Zealand I visit once a year or so. And then I often accidentally click on one instead of the correct address. It's driving me crazy. Has anyone seen this sort of behaviour before? How can I make it stop? [more inside]
Planning to buy an unlocked Android phone US / Amazon for regular visits to the US, but also need it to work in several other countries if I just buy a sim on arrival. I do not need roaming or to receive calls to a US number in other countries. There are a gazillion different answers on different websites. Anyone have a pretty good idea if I'm OK with this one? My seven year old has saved an amazing $200. He'd like to get his own Android tablet that can handle Minecraft PE. Can this be done? Currently he uses my wife's iPad 2. But the lag is driving him nuts. Would a tablet in his price range be any better?
Hello. Is there an app for android that will allow me to make layouts with multiple photos (like Layout), but split diagonally rather than vertically/horizontally? This is proving strangely difficult to find. Thanks!
I missed an appointment today as I didn't hear any of the FIVE alarms I had set in my phone, despite it being on the desk right beside me at the time. It seems Android's version of Google' Calendar's reminder sound is a meek little beep. My version is a klaxon. Is there a way to fix this? [more inside]
I have a Nexus 5 running Android 6.01. I have a notification that will not clear that says I have 5 voicemails. I have zero voicemails. The internet is positively lousy with advice on how to fix this. Not a drop of it works. HALP.
...and then fold back close when I'm done. My 1st gen tablet had a more stiff cover so the bottom half would support the kindle. I could watch movies at a higher eye level while on a treadmill or elliptical. [more inside]
My career has always been on the peripheral of more technical roles and I've excelled without getting to code-specific knowledge but in my job search everyone seems to want a product manager who can use code, even if it's not part of their job. What language should I learn? [more inside]
The blocks are pushed up every so often. The blocks are all non-descriptively gray, except some of the ones on top are colorful and have numbers. At the top, it shows what the next block dropped will be, and you can click on the column to drop it on. Then, depending on some unknown (to me) rules, the blocks will disappear, sometimes multiple groups of blocks will disappear in a chain reaction. Sometimes this will cause some previously gray and unnumbered blocks to now be colorful and numbered. [more inside]
I need a better calendaring option. Must be as simple as possible or I won't use it. Super long details inside. [more inside]
I got one of those $50 FireOS tablets, and it works okay... EXCEPT for Youtube videos. Sometimes it's okay, but most of the time it just hangs without playing a Youtube video. I assume this spotty performance is because it's not using an official Google-YouTube app? Anyone else have this problem? If I try to put Android on it, will YouTube actually work any better? (I don't want to brick this thing if it wouldn't help anyway.)
I need a free Android app that will allow posting and reading to a number of social media sites. Also, some sites I have several accounts, so I need access to all of those. [more inside]

My current phone, a Samsung Galaxy S5, is all sorts of smashed and dying. I would like a replacement that runs a recent build of Android, works on my carrier (Verizon), and has a physical keyboard. Halp? (Details inside.) [more inside]
There are so many terrible educational apps which seem to be a combination of flash cards / slot machine with in-app purchases or hard to avoid ads. What are your favorite tablet apps which actually have taught your toddler something other than randomly swiping around the screen? [more inside]
I need a good task manager. I thought Todoist was it, but I hate their Android client (plus typing out the due date/time every time gets old quite fast). So what's the current state of the market? [more inside]
My Nexus 4 is getting a bit long in the tooth, looking for something similar but with updated specs. I've gone through the G1, G2, and Nexus 4, and would just hop right on up to the Nexus 5, but I get the feeling that options have opened up in the current + last gen of devices. I recently got my first smartphone - the Galaxy S5 - and having the web and email on my phone is way too distracting. I want to make my phone distraction-free (inspired by the distraction-free iPhone). Basically I want to stop myself from constantly checking my email and surfing the on my phone, but retain the ability to use email and the web if I really need them when I'm out. Any ideas on how to make my Galaxy S5 distraction free? [more inside]
If I'm reading a webpage in Firefox on my phone, and then go to another tab or another app, when I return to the original tab, the page automatically reloads. How can I prevent this from happening? I would prefer to control when pages reload, as on a regular PC. [more inside]
I have a Moto G running Android 4.4.4 that has a bad habit of occasionally deleting an app without provocation. This is a small bother normally (I just re-download the app), but this time, it has deleted Google Play Services, which is necessary for all kinds of things. How do I fix it? [more inside]
I have a new-old Droid 3 (bought new, only started using it recently) and it's not holding a charge very long, even when I'm not actively doing anything with it (it can drop from 100% to 70% over night). I looked at its battery usage, and the bundled apps that I didn't want or use were using a lot of battery (YouTube was the worst, at 27%). Should I try some cellphone management apps (examples), get a new battery, root it to uninstall bundled apps I don't want or need, or root it to run a custom OS? [more inside]
I love swiping around on my Android phone; the chance to swipe around on my keyboard to write an email or text makes me surprisingly glad. What are some good games (and other apps?) that make the act of swiping and dragging a pleasure? Some examples: Alcazar and LYNE have been great games for me because they supported smooth, convoluted drags, and Threes has been too because of its smooth swipes. In contrast, the clunkyness of the dragging in Trainyard has been a turn-off. While a good challenge is important, fluidity is key.
I use an Android phone as my main audio player (both music and podcasts). I'd like to use it to play audio wirelessly over my home theater system. The Bluetooth receiver I got for this isn't cutting it. What's the best way to do this? [more inside]

I recently bought a new Alcatel One Touch 7 Tab, running Jelly Bean. I'm trying to e-mail a couple of .mp4 videos to my girlfriend's LG G3 Android phone. The first one worked fine, but both of my attempts of the second video are apparently an "unsupported file type." I have been gifted a Samsung Gear Live, and in the process of struggling to put a backpack on over a heavy winter jacket, I ripped off one of the watch bands. What are the best news/opinions about Android in terms of quality of writing and analysis? I'm after sites that post relatively infrequently, but tend to produce high quality stuff when they do post: the Android equivalent of sites like MacStories, Daring Fireball, and Six Colors. (I know far more about iOS than I do Android, but should really know about both.)
