What is going on with the battery of my Samsung Galaxy S Tab and how can I fix it? [more inside]
My current phone, a Samsung Galaxy S5, is all sorts of smashed and dying. I would like a replacement that runs a recent build of Android, works on my carrier (Verizon), and has a physical keyboard. Halp? (Details inside.) [more inside]
There are so many terrible educational apps which seem to be a combination of flash cards / slot machine with in-app purchases or hard to avoid ads. What are your favorite tablet apps which actually have taught your toddler something other than randomly swiping around the screen? [more inside]
I need a good task manager. I thought Todoist was it, but I hate their Android client (plus typing out the due date/time every time gets old quite fast). So what's the current state of the market? [more inside]
My Nexus 4 is getting a bit long in the tooth, looking for something similar but with updated specs. I've gone through the G1, G2, and Nexus 4, and would just hop right on up to the Nexus 5, but I get the feeling that options have opened up in the current + last gen of devices. My list of prioritized features inside. [more inside]
Good microtransaction-free games for Android phones with endless modes or just large numbers of levels. Don't need to be free so long as they're not moneypits. [more inside]
If I'm reading a webpage in Firefox on my phone, and then go to another tab or another app, when I return to the original tab, the page automatically reloads. How can I prevent this from happening? I would prefer to control when pages reload, as on a regular PC. [more inside]
I have a Moto G running Android 4.4.4 that has a bad habit of occasionally deleting an app without provocation. This is a small bother normally (I just re-download the app), but this time, it has deleted Google Play Services, which is necessary for all kinds of things. How do I fix it? [more inside]
I have a new-old Droid 3 (bought new, only started using it recently) and it's not holding a charge very long, even when I'm not actively doing anything with it (it can drop from 100% to 70% over night). I looked at its battery usage, and the bundled apps that I didn't want or use were using a lot of battery (YouTube was the worst, at 27%). Should I try some cellphone management apps (examples), get a new battery, root it to uninstall bundled apps I don't want or need, or root it to run a custom OS? [more inside]
I love swiping around on my Android phone; the chance to swipe around on my keyboard to write an email or text makes me surprisingly glad. What are some good games (and other apps?) that make the act of swiping and dragging a pleasure? Some examples: Alcazar and LYNE have been great games for me because they supported smooth, convoluted drags, and Threes has been too because of its smooth swipes. In contrast, the clunkyness of the dragging in Trainyard has been a turn-off. While a good challenge is important, fluidity is key.
I use an Android phone as my main audio player (both music and podcasts). I'd like to use it to play audio wirelessly over my home theater system. The Bluetooth receiver I got for this isn't cutting it. What's the best way to do this? [more inside]
I opened this (NSFW) YouTube video yesterday and before it played there was an ad made by Android that goes on for about 7 minutes basically imploring you to hit 'Skip Ad', it's hilarious and I would love to find the actual link to the video. [more inside]
I recently bought a new Alcatel One Touch 7 Tab, running Jelly Bean. It has a lot of problems, often it takes several seconds to respond, apps freeze, it has graphical issues with some games that aren't necessarily new, some apps don't even run, and it hangs when going from one app to another. [more inside]
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I do not want to root it. Requirements: Change the notification sound, LED notification light colour, and (optionally) vibration for notifications coming from each app. [more inside]
I've had a Huawei u8651s for a few months now. It won't let me download or install apps. With the unlimited data plan I have as of today, this is now vexing me. Can anyone help? [more inside]

Are there any ebook reading apps for Android that approach the level of polish that iBooks on iOS has? Ideally ones that have a continuous-scroll mode and which allow easy font customization? [more inside]
I'm trying to e-mail a couple of .mp4 videos to my girlfriend's LG G3 Android phone. The first one worked fine, but both of my attempts of the second video are apparently an "unsupported file type." I encoded the videos myself from QuickTime .mov source videos using Avidemux, and I'm at a loss as to why one works but the others don't. (technical info inside) [more inside]
I have been gifted a Samsung Gear Live, and in the process of struggling to put a backpack on over a heavy winter jacket, I ripped off one of the watch bands. The band itself is fine, but the metal post or whatever that attaches it to the watch face is bent. Can I buy just the post somewhere? [more inside]
This is the dumbest thing and I can't believe I'm wasting a question on this. Help me get a browser shortcut on my Note 3. [more inside]
I have been a happy user of Tmobile for a few years, using their $10/(3 month) minimal service. Sadly, my Nokia N900 has bit the dust, and I must replace it. I am now using an ancient Samsung candy-bar, but would like to get the absolutely cheapest android there is. But I don't know the territory. [more inside]
My (never rooted) Samsung Galaxy S4 has been exhibiting some strange behavior. How can I tell if I have a virus or if there's a more innocuous explanation? [more inside]
I'm trying to make a clock/weather widget for my android phone using UCCW. I have my own picture i want to use, but i'm not very familiar using UCCW as of yet to make my own widgets. How do i import my own picture and add in weather, days of the week, and an analog clock that actually works?
What are the best news/opinions about Android in terms of quality of writing and analysis? I'm after sites that post relatively infrequently, but tend to produce high quality stuff when they do post: the Android equivalent of sites like MacStories, Daring Fireball, and Six Colors. (I know far more about iOS than I do Android, but should really know about both.)
I have an iPad 3 (Retina) which is excellent and works well. I am potentially able to buy a new Hudl 2 tablet with Clubcard vouchers costing me £65. What can I do with it that I can't do with my iPad? [more inside]
How do I set up the sharing of a folder on a USB disk drive so that files within the drive, which is attached to a Win7 PC, can be played on an Android device? [more inside]
This is idiotic, I realize. How do I hold my Samsung S4 up to my face, for phone calls, without mashing random touch-screen buttons? Every time I use it in that way, I end up pushing things inadvertently with my cheek. I think it's very likely that I'm doing something wrong.
Is there an Android Widget that will allow me to display a subset of data from Google Spreadsheets? I keep track of my budget in a spreadsheet, and I would like to display the balances in a quick way on my phone without actually having to open the Google Sheets application. [more inside]
I was given a Droid X2 that I'd like to re-use as a music player, etc. The phone has been...reset? and is at the 'call Verizon' screen. I have zero experience installing operating systems on Android phones. Is there a way to install an alternate OS on this phone that would let me use it? All the walkthroughs I've seen assume you can install software on the phone. I have PCs and Macs available to use to help install what I need.
There is a game called Dungeon Scroll for Android and Apple devices. You get some times and spell a bunch of words and the score of the words kill various creatures. It's pretty low-tech. I absolutely LOVE this game and have had it for years. I'm trying to find something similar that's maybe a little more sophisticated...saves my game progress as I go, leveling up means something, idk. [more inside]
I love having a moon phase widget on my android phone. Three days ago I noticed the one I had, had disappeared. I then downloaded a few others to try. Paid apps even! None of them change on the desktop(?) of the phone, indicating where the moon is in its cycle. Is this because I have mobile data turned off to save battery power? Or is there another reason? I also downloaded the app Sun and Moon but is it anywhere to be found on my phone except in My Apps to uninstall? Is it heck. What's going on?
After much experimentation, I’ve finally realized how I want the Android home screens to work: Like this (simple 30-sec video clip). Essentially, I want it to work like making a Mac OS X app full-screen and assigning it to a work space. [more inside]
I have a Macbook; my friend has an old Android phone. I plugged his phone into my computer to get some videos and photos. He unplugged it before I could properly eject it, and his phone now doesn't recognize the card. It says it's damaged and asks him to reformat. Is there any way for me to rescue the files on this card? [more inside]
Is there a text app that lets me receive multimedia messages and group messages without using my data plan? [more inside]
I am in search of a very good recording app for my Samsung Galaxy S3 that has the ability to transfer the audio to a computer. I need it to record from a few feet away to possibly capturing a whole room. I have tried a few, but they had a lot of "wind" noise. The latest one I've tried is Smart Voice, and when I was about to transfer the file to dropbox so I could try playing it on my computer, it warned me about data charges, so I didn't do it because I don't know how much the charges were going to be. Thank you for any suggestions you have.

My wife's Android phone is unreliable. Can it be fixed, or should we just buy a new one? [more inside]
Some weeks ago, I changed my phone's password while half asleep and haven't been able to remember it since. I've since gotten a new phone, but I really want to get the pictures and videos that were on there. Is this possible? [more inside]
I'm looking for peaceful, quiet, calm, relaxing Android games. Quell (and its two sequels) fit the bill perfectly, but I've played them to death. Digitized snowflakes within! [more inside]

I'm getting a Fitbit Flex soon and am planning to use its silent alarm feature so my partner can keep snoozing undisturbed while I rise and shine. I'd still like to have a noisy alarm as a backup just in case, though. Is there an Android app available that can do either of the following things: 1) notices that I'm already up (via the motion sensor, or unlocking the screen) and will skip any upcoming alarms or 2) has a really quick way to skip the next alarm (say, from the notification bar or a widget on the home screen) - if I have to open the app I'm likely to forget. I believe KitKat has feature #2 in the stock clock, but my S3 Mini is still on version 4.1.2 and I'm not sure if/when an update will be coming. Thanks!
Background: I work for a (small) company and was put in charge of helping manage the creation of a smartphone app, related to our business (both clients and non-clients would find it relevant) and geared at business professionals in the US. I was given this task due to capacity and not skill, so it's been a learning curve. An outside developer was brought in to actually create the app (for both iOS and Android). Both versions are functionally identical (with identical text in the respective stores) and sell for the same price ($1.99, if that's relevant). It's now been a few months since the apps went live in their respective stores. Our PR firm has been helping promote the app to generate sales/spread the word. As it turns out, the iOS version is outselling the Android version by a factor of 12 to 1. Given that Android appears to have a much larger market share than Apple, this seems a little odd. I'm looking for input from those who have sold apps in both stores to see if this is akin to their experience or any resources that might help explain why this is. I've done some searching on my own (both here in the green and on the web) but haven't found anything concrete.
I have a new Android phone. I've never used Android. Any suggestions for amazing applications or games? (cat pictures inside) [more inside]
I'm on Android (Samsung S4 Zoom) and my partner is on IoS (iPhone 4) - what are the best turn based/collaborative common platform games we can play together on and off during the working day? We both like word play, puzzles, general knowledge and detective mysteries, but would be amenable to considering anything that would get the old grey matter working. Hit us up with your best timewasting suggestions, venerable mefites!
I'm finally going to ditch my trusty LG enV 3 for a smartphone, but I want one off-contract, and I don't want to spend a ton of money. [more inside]

Is there a reasonably priced (<$50) bluetooth headset for Android (HTC One) that can mute calls? I've done a healthy amount of research & I'm not sure why what seems like such an obvious feature is so curiously difficult to find.
