Using Google Analytics, I've managed to set up page A and page B to do some A/B testing. So far, so good. My sticking point: What I'd like to measure is which page sees more users clicking through to an external site. I can't figure out how to do this. [more inside]

Where do English majors go to learn key principles behind deriving mathematically sound meaning from data? I worked for years as a digital editor. Now I'm a "content strategist," which means I'm responsible for proving my new strategy increases reader engagement via different metrics like UVs, shares, attention time, average story finish rate, etc. I'm very familiar with platforms like Google Analytics and Chartbeat. But I want to learn how to see patterns in them there numbers, and I NEED to make sure my insights are mathematically accurate. How can I most efficiently do that without getting a brain transplant? (Example below.) [more inside]

I've been helping my wife produce a podcast. It publishes through a Wordpress site sitting on Dreamhost. We have Google Analytics set up for the site (which existed as a blog before the podcast came along), but unless I'm reading them wrong, they don't appear to show podcast downloads. What's the best way, either through Google Analytics or some other route, to get reliable numbers on downloads? [more inside]
I'm trying to find out how many tweets a particular hashtag has had over the last 90 days. I've been clicking through various Twitter analytics sites and not finding the data I need- either they only show the last 30 days, or they show the tweets but don't give me a total #. Anyone know a tool that can definitely answer this question? Thanks!

I write freelance. I get paid based on page views. I want to track my views on articles independently, not just rely on the numbers fed to me by clients that host the articles I write. I know I can use tracking pixels for this. I have spent hours hunting for third-party services that host the little 1x1 devils and generate usable reports. I am shocked at the lack of alternatives out there. [more inside]

This is for work. It's a wordpress site. According to a wordpress plugin that's already been installed, I have a google analytics tracking number that has been on the homepage for several months already. How do I see analytics about the site's visitors. When I go to Google analytics, it makes me enter an email address, my site URL and generates a NEW tracking number. I don't want a new tracking number. I want to use my existing number that has been on the homepage for months already. so how do I use google analytics if all I have is a tracking number and a URL. I don't have the email associated with this tracking URL, if there ever was one. That was before I was hire. Thanks.
Are there ways to "cross" or "join" data results in Google Analytics? Just as a for instance, I have a list of Referrals and a list of audience Location demographics. Is there a way to join those two lists, so that I know where site referrals are visiting from? (Generally, are there resources which list "pro tips" for getting the most out of Analytics?)

Wordpress question: Is it possible to generate a report on which users are the most active on the site in terms of interactions, click-throughs, and time logged-in? I see a few plugins which claim to do this, but it seems like something you'd have had to have installed since the time you wanted to start keeping track. Is there something I can use which will find this information automatically?

Though I've been working with web development since the 90's, I have a hands-on knowledge gap when it comes to internet marketing techniques like SEO, Adwords, analytics and the like. What are the best sources, free or paid, to learn more? I've been looking around for good resources, but it looks like this field is dominated by crooks. Any recommendations of books and sites written by reputable professionals is appreciated. I'm also a big fan of video lectures, if you know of any.

I took out an advertising package with Apartments.com. This is no cheap proposition, at $2,000 for 500,000 impressions. I wasn't expecting much out of this, but was hoping for at least the 0.05% the apartments.com rep claimed was their average, considering that our company is in the moving industry and has some impressive accolades under our belt all mentioned in our ad. 50,000 impressions in and my apartments.com contact claims there've been 18 clicks (0.03% CTR). However I only see 6 originating from apartments.com, 2 of which were just me testing out the ad. [more inside]
