I am about to get my busking license from the MBTA. I would like to get a small dual-channel amp for public performance. I'm working with a budget of $150 or less. The Roland Cube Micro looked appealing, but I couldn't tell if it would let me plug in a mic and the pickup for my ukulele. Help?
I have a battery-powered speaker which will be used at an outdoor event. I need to be able to power an XLR microphone that will then connect to the speaker via minijack. Can anyone recommend a reliable, small pre-amp that would be suitable for amplifying the mic before it goes into the speaker? Battery-powered would be ideal, and portability is desirable.
I have a Marantz PM4001 amplifier and pair of bookshelf speakers that I've not used for months, as my new media center setup does not have analog outputs. Should I buy a digital-to-analog converter (which needs its own power supply), or should I just simplify my whole setup? (E.g. just rely on the TV's built-in speakers.) I have kind of got out of the habit of listening to music and am not sure I need this anymore. [more inside]

I have a 15-ish year-old Mexican Stratocaster and a 5-ish year-old Fender Super Champ XD amplifier. Together this combination sounds... not good. I would like to fix that somehow. [more inside]
Like in a standard thingamabob such as the DJ-s use, for example. There is usually a volume knob and a gain knob. There is an absolutely clear audible difference between turning up gain and turning up volume. They are not the same at all. But what exactly is happening in the amplifier when I use one or the other? What do each of these things actually do?
I recently went to the "Doctors' Wives" garage sale thing that was happening a couple of weeks ago and bought a nice pair of speakers for $20. They were a steal and although I have to do a minor amount of work on one of them, they're amazing! I hooked then up to my parents' amp and we've been having a great time with them. However, I didn't realize this garage sale was only once a year, and they had a lot of other nice, vintage speakers for $20. I want a pair for my room and a new amp so I can listen to music or the radio in bed. While craigslist has some good speakers and amps sometimes, and the SPCA also has some good stuff, I was curious if there was a store or another thrift store that sells that kind of stuff. Googling only returns Beat Buy and car audio places. Thanks!!
My old receiver (some late '80s silver Pioneer or JVC box) has become afflicted with loose connection gremlins. Last time I asked about getting it dealt with, the folks at Solutions Audio said it'd probably run about $200 to repair it. I'd like to see what my options are and whether I can get something as good or better for about the same price (or a little more). [more inside]
I feel like if I knew more about amplifiers the symptoms of my Roland KC-550 would narrow down my problem significantly. Only the tweeter works (and it works fine), and the two other speakers are totally un-driven across all channels. Does this indicate anything about the issue? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth having repaired and/or if I can repair it myself.
I just moved into a new house, and the kitchen has a built in set of Niles OS3 speakers wired in. I'd like to drive them from my computer (headphone output). What's a good reasonably low cost amplifier to drive them with? [more inside]

I have an iPad 2, a Sandisk mp3 player and about three ipods floating around my house. I also have a Sony ICF-m1000 table radio. Looking for a small, cheap amplifier to sit between a Sony D250 portable CD player and a pair of Energy e:XL 15 or 16 speakers. Toying with the idea of a DIY gainclone but not sure I have the smarts to put a kit together without killing myself, or even to know whether that sort of amp is suitable for my needs. [more inside]

HDTV antenna amplifier recommendations? I live in an apartment in a downtown area and the TV reception is poor even with my antenna designed for fringe reception. My current antenna amplifier is a Winegard HD200 with forward gain of 24dB which definitely helps, but can you recommend an even more effective amplifier for O.T.A. reception in the U.S.? Sometime back there was a recommendation to hook two amplifiers in series but my experience doing that showed a decline in performance and I think the theory states that reflection of signal back toward the source can diminish any improvement, ie the gains of two amplifiers in line are not additive. If I can get the amplifier thru Amazon, that's a plus. Thanks.
I am planning a project for a new years party involving over a hundred speakers of assorted size and Ohm values , Basically the idea is to stack all the speakers to cover an entire wall of a room and wire them all up to an amplifier(s?) what would be the best way to wire them? [more inside]

As Marantz has introduced a new (but hardly improved) model, Music Direct is selling the PM8003 integrated amplifier for half usual MSRP ($499 vs. $999). From what I've read, it's a splendid piece of kit, and a solid value before the drastic discount. My question for you; would you recommend something else, for $500 or less, that you feel is superior to the Marantz? In terms of sonic character, I favor impartiality, perhaps slight warmth, but balance and purity foremost, if that informs suggestions at all. I'd like to feel I've surveyed my options thoroughly before going through with the purchase.

I inherited a NAD 214 stereo power amplifier. I plugged it into power and the lights came on. In order to get it out of the house (spring cleaning) I listed it on ebay for $5 and said it powers up fine. But now it's getting lots of attention and I have people asking me if it works properly. Based on their good reviews and cheap price, I bought a pair of JBL Control 1 Pros for my DJ setup at home without realizing they were passive speakers. Any recommendations for a cheap amplifier? I just need some basic reference monitors for my turntables/mixer so I'm a little out of my depth when it comes to wading though reviews on audiophile websites.
My amplifier/receiver died. I need something inexpensive (~$200) but powerful to replace it. I am not an audiophile but like my music to sound good. Should I get a simple amplifier and an HD radio tuner or troll eBay for a used receiver? I have two sets of speakers plus woofer and need about 100W per channel. Need three or four inputs. Don't need fancy 5.1 or anything. Recommendations? [more inside]

Seattle resident (US Citizen) wants to buy a $900 keyboard amp of Canadian manufacture from Vancouver B.C. music store. How much it would REALLY cost after taxes and customs duties? Store couldn't tell me; getting busy signal from Border Information Service 800 number. GST - about 5%? Additional provincial tax for BC, and if so, how much? Additional customs duties? Would drive up from Seattle and buy in person. Is this insane, or should I just special-order via Seattle music store and save money (but not time?)
I'm looking for a keyboard amplifier for use in a rock band. Is the roland kc-150 (65W) going to be loud enough or should I spring for the KC-350 (120W)? Or should I look for a bass amp?
