Guitar amp recommendations

Looking for a guitar amp, $200-range, just for messing around. The Blackstar ID15 looks pretty versatile. Good reviews on the Roland Cube 20GX as well. Anything else I should be looking at? Looking for some built-in effects with a good user interface, easy to program. (Good/bad experiences programming with an iOS app welcome!)

I need a mini amp for electric guitar

I'd like to get a small amp for a beginner electric guitar player. It's my stepson so he can only use it a couple days a month here to practice but I'd really like to encourage his new hobby. I know NOTHING about music or guitars, etc. I'd love to get something cheap but I don't want to be too cheap. I am willing to spend as much as I need to get the job done right.

Plug for a microphone

I just got a microphone with a cord that has a three-pronged male plug at the end. This won't fit into my amp, and I can't figure out what kind of plug I'd need. "Mic converter" turns up iPhone accessories and "preamp" looks like another, larger piece of equipment. What do I need to plug my mic into my amp?

Looking for an inexpensive dual-channel amp for busking

Where to find some speakers and receivers in Reno, NV?

I recently went to the "Doctors' Wives" garage sale thing that was happening a couple of weeks ago and bought a nice pair of speakers for $20. They were a steal and although I have to do a minor amount of work on one of them, they're amazing! I hooked then up to my parents' amp and we've been having a great time with them. However, I didn't realize this garage sale was only once a year, and they had a lot of other nice, vintage speakers for $20. I want a pair for my room and a new amp so I can listen to music or the radio in bed. While craigslist has some good speakers and amps sometimes, and the SPCA also has some good stuff, I was curious if there was a store or another thrift store that sells that kind of stuff. Googling only returns Beat Buy and car audio places. Thanks!!

Help me fix my entertainment system.

AV experts, can you help me? I set up my current home entertainment system 11 years ago, and it's worked well for me. Now it is failing, and consumer electronics have moved on. I can't just replace the failing component with a new one because it is not being manufactured any longer, and I only need some parts of it. I'm having trouble integrating new things into the old setup. I need to upgrade/reconfigure my AV, and possibly wireless. Details inside. [more inside]

Budget integrated amp or receiver?

My old receiver (some late '80s silver Pioneer or JVC box) has become afflicted with loose connection gremlins. Last time I asked about getting it dealt with, the folks at Solutions Audio said it'd probably run about $200 to repair it. I'd like to see what my options are and whether I can get something as good or better for about the same price (or a little more). [more inside]

Headphone amp for Sennheiser 555s and mp3s--worthwhile?

I've been thinking about building this little Altoid tin headphone amp kit for listening with my Sennheiser 555s. Granted, the point of building the kit is, well, building the kit--but given the limitations of a (cheap) kit-built design and the fact that I listen exclusively to mp3s on my iPhone or Mac, will there be a perceptible improvement in sound from the cans? Is there more to the sound of my mp3s that I might not be hearing just driving the Sennheisers with the juice from the iPhone's or Mac's headphone jack that would merit stepping up the signal with the little amp?

Fun little amp for synth!

I've been given a Bolsa Bass synth (which is rad). It's kind of an art piece by itself, so I wanted to have it out at parties, when people came over, etc. But! It needs an amp. Can you recommend a good little amp for a bassy synth like this? Something that also looks cool on its own (and complements the hot pink + wood of the Bolsa Bass) would be a major plus. And something easy. Doesn't need to deafen anyone, just sound good in an apartment-sized space. Thanks!

Integrated Amps: Marantz PM8003?

As Marantz has introduced a new (but hardly improved) model, Music Direct is selling the PM8003 integrated amplifier for half usual MSRP ($499 vs. $999). From what I've read, it's a splendid piece of kit, and a solid value before the drastic discount. My question for you; would you recommend something else, for $500 or less, that you feel is superior to the Marantz? In terms of sonic character, I favor impartiality, perhaps slight warmth, but balance and purity foremost, if that informs suggestions at all. I'd like to feel I've surveyed my options thoroughly before going through with the purchase.

Where can I get something like a Sonic Impact T-Amp?

I used to have a Sonic Impact T-Amp. It was incredible - a great-sounding battery-powered amp with an input for iPod/CD that could drive big speakers at volume. Mine broke and I think I might have thrown it away, which I regret. But in the meantime, is there something similar on the market? A small, great battery-powered amp?
