NPR-story-with-little-to-go-on-filter: Several years ago, I heard a radio story involving a tribal election in which one candidate was represented as being for re-investing funds in the tribe, while another was for direct payments to tribe members. An tribe member, interviewed, said he'd vote for the latter, although even he didn't think it was best for the tribe or for him in the long term -- because he wanted the cash.

I am involved in branding a "company" that has a casino, theater and hotel as part of its assets. Part of the brand development is naming. The company is located in Northern New Mexico (Espanola – which, I've been informed is a leading provide of Black tar heroin!). Anyway, I'm looking for recommendations for reference books or even novels that focus on that area/culture and might spark some inspiration for names. The "company" is actually a Native American tribe or Pubelo that is known for its Black pottery.

Quotefilter: Need both source and text from a historical story I once read for a sermon/homily this weekend. The story concerned a Native American who was shown a church by a missionary, and the Native American responded to the effect of "why do you keep God in a building?" That's all of the detail I have, and my Google-fu is failing me on this one ....

In the next couple of months I am going to start flying frequently (probably weekly) between Chicago and New York and Chicago and DC. I am currently a member of US Airways Dividend Miles, but they don't have enough flexibility in flight schedules for me. I am trying to decide whether to sign with United or American (I'd like to stick to one airline whenever possible to get status, and I'll likely pick up their credit card as well). So, I'd love to hear feedback on the two programs: which treat their customers better, which have more perks (more upgrade availability), etc. Thanks in advance!

Why do some people say "anyways"? I notice Mayor Bloomberg always says it. He may be the mayor of NYC and a billionaire media mogul, but he sounds like he never opened a book in his life. I know he's from Boston, but I don't believe this is a regional thing.

I'm working on a research paper on 19th century American Art, more specifically Gilbert Stuart's portrait "George Washington on Dorchester Heights' done in 1806....and I've hit a wall. I'm trying to find any information on Stuart's motivation behind depicting George Washington next to a giant horse's rump and I can't seem to locate any official (or unofficial) sources that address that.

I have searched and searched online for American Indian art to no avail. More specifically - I'm looking for the kind of bold clip art (thick lines) or logo-type of art associated or signifying with each of the following: Shawnee, Lakotas, Iroquois, Ojibwe, Cahokia, Cherokee - animal art is fine as well. Are there any symbols of the same type of art that might relate to law or justice??. Am I looking for something that doesn't exist? Thanks in advance for any help!!!
