Hi, I'm a voracious reader in the midst of a 30-day trial for Kindle Unlimited (I'm thinking it probably isn't a keeper). It seems like lots of the books available are from self-published or otherwise obscure authors and don't have many reviews. Has anyone come across an obscure book on Kindle Unlimited that they'd recommend? I'm pretty genre agnostic (I'd rather read a good romance novel than a bad science fiction novel), though I'm not generally interested in urban fantasy.
I feel silly, but I can't seem to find an answer to this. I'm currently in a free trial for Prime for another week or so. We were probably going to cancel it, but there is a weekend offer that knocks a few bucks off the price and I'm reconsidering. However, as I'm already in the free trial, is there any way to get the lower price?
I was listening to the Question of the Day podcast and heard them plugging their Amazon affiliate url: earwolf.com/amazon which redirects to a surprisingly short Amazon url... Did I miss that short Amazon url when I signed up as an affiliate? Does metafilter have a short amazon affiliate URL? Is it just amazon.com/?tag=metafilter-20 ...?
I was given an Amazon Echo for Christmas. I'm trying to decide whether it makes sense to keep it or return it (for something as-yet-undetermined). Those of you with Echos: what am I missing? Is there some great application of it that I don't yet realize? [more inside]

I ordered a textbook on Amazon from a non-Prime seller (none of the Prime sellers had it in stock) and specified "expedited" shipping. The seller provided a USPS tracking number, but the estimated shipping time is longer than I had expected. Is there any way to ensure that this package was shipped via Priority Mail?
I purchased a TV show from Amazon Video and paid extra for "HD" but the quality is awful. It looks like a web video circa 2009. Is there anything I can do to improve the quality? [more inside]

Why are the ads on my Kindle so completely off-base? I'm a BIG Amazon user. I buy tons of products of all sorts, many books, and many, many ebooks. So why does Amazon do such a terrible job of targeting ads to me via my Kindle? [more inside]

How raunchy is the new Amazon streaming show CATASTROPHE in terms of nudity, sex, language, etc.? I'm reading great things about it, but am wondering if it's something I would feel comfortable watching with my older teen boy. Reference point: we're watching Grace & Frankie now (great show btw!) and that's been ok for us to watch together...
Mostly what it says on the tin. I read a lot, and I read almost everything on my kindle - I'm missing the part of my brain that makes people attached to print books. I'm curious if anyone has tried Kindle Unlimited, and if you liked it or felt it was worthwhile. Let's bracket for now any concerns about Amazon as a company and its effect on publishing/writing. I'm familiar with those arguments, and they'll factor separately into whether or not I decide to sign up. Thanks!
Amazon and Netflix are now producing boatloads of original content. w00t! Cord cutters rejoice! I love that they are making all this content that cord cutters don't have to get locked out of. I really want to watch and support a lot of these shows. The only thing is, I get the feeling they are producing quantity a bit more than quality. Help me unearth the gems of Netflix and Amazon originals. [more inside]
A few months ago I started selling kinky eBooks for the Kindle, and it's been great. I'm paying my rent doing something I enjoy! But tonight I read this Salon.com article, and it's scary as hell. Amazon is reportedly testing Kindle Unlimited, a service allowing readers to download unlimited books for a flat monthly fee. I've spent hours tonight trying to determine how this will affect self-publishers. Can anybody walk me through the likely scenarios, and talk me down from this panic attack? [more inside]

It's quite possible I'm just being unusually stupid here, but I've put in three attempts of a half hour or so each and cannot figure out how to edit the "About Me" text that shows up to the left of my Amazon wishlist. It's not that there's anything urgent'y awful there. It just lists my hometown as 6 years out of date and my job as eight years out of date. It's driving me nuts and I'd like to kill it with fire. Where in hell is the page where I edit this?
I am a frequent buyer of <$5 books on Amazon. Lately I am interested in math treatises but have been unable to find any that aren't way out of my price range. Am I being way too demanding? [more inside]
My book is in an HTML file, not Word. I'm going to use kindlegen to convert it. Everything is working great, except I can't figure out how to include the cover, start page, and table of contents. Amazon's directions are spectacularly opaque. Where can I go to find out what to do?
I need to set up someone in China with an Amazon gift card ($20). I live in Canada. Looking at the Amazon site, it's not immediately apparent how to do this. Any ideas?

I ordered a box set from an amazon user at the end of april listed as "like new" which it wasn't. Asked for a refund, and he asked for more details and pictures which i gave, then i heard nothing for well over a week. So i decided to file an a to z claim on Monday, then today (Thursday) he says how he had been locked out of his bank account due to some banking issue. Now he's all gung ho to give me a refund after i send the stuff back and drop the a to z. I feel a little weary trusting him. He has good feed back, but it's only 6 feedbacks. Should i do as he suggests or continue letting amazon look into it?

Mom just gave me a $100 Amazon gift card for my birthday. I'm thinking of taking the Amazon Prime plunge. But, I already have Netflix and am very happy with that. "Fringe" is my main reason for wanting Prime and even though it would save me money over renting the show, I wonder if there is other Prime exclusive content to help push me over the edge. What benefit does a Negative Operating Cycle get you? Other than just cash on hand. Amazon has a lot of cash because they practice Just In Time inventory management & sell out of their products before the bill for that product comes due. Other companies pay the bill first & then wait for the stock to sell out to recoup their money. Aside from the benefit of having cash on hand, what benefit do you get from this? [more inside]
