An old friend put out her first book, and I want to pre-order it, but I also want to help it "pop." If I buy the Kindle Edition instead of the hardcover, will it still maximally count for the popularity trackers like NYTimes bestsellers and Amazon Best Of, or whatever? Or is that too "new media"?

So I've been downloading books to my iPad's Kindle app from Amazon, and also downloading from Project Gutenberg to my desktop PC and mailing them to my Kindle address to get them on the iPad. And I've got a small but annoying problem.
In the ebooks it sells from its site, Amazon lists the author as, for example, "Doyle, Arthur Conan," while the .mobi files from Project Gutenberg list the author as "Arthur Conan Doyle."
Thus the Amazon files sort under D for Doyle while the Project Gutenberg files show up under A for Arthur.
Is there a way to edit the .mobi files to change the author's names to match Amazon's format and get everybody's works to come together in the same place?

I'm looking for warnings or limitations for publishing adult/mature erotic fiction through Kindle Direct Publishing, and I'm worried about pitfalls and I haven't yet found any direct language about content or rated content or the like. [more inside]

I've had a Kindle Keyboard with lighted case that I've been pretty happy with for a couple of years. However, I'm thinking of upgrading to the Paperwhite for the improved display. Is it worth the price, and is there any trade-off in battery life? [more inside]

Years ago, I wrote a novel. I am not interested in seeking out a publisher for it - rather, I'm hoping to sell it on Amazon as an e-book for a few bucks. From someone who has done it, how can I transform my Word file into an Amazon e-book listing which I can direct my friends to? [more inside]

I'm considering purchasing a Kindle DX, but the current version is two years old and two hardware generations behind the regular Kindle. Is there functionality in the newer versions of the regular Kindle that I would miss when using the Kindle DX? Is it likely to be replaced or discontinued in the near future? Is there anything else that I should know about before buying a Kindle DX?

Can I use an iPad for something I haven't purchased? Specifically, do the ebook apps only work on content I've bought or obtained through either Amazon or the iBookstore? [more inside]

I bought a Kindle 2. Amazon lists a paltry selection of covers and skins. I want a good one. [more inside]
