This Amazon boycott isn't going so well

Recently I resolved to look for alternatives to Amazon when possible--especially local or independent shops. I also started upping my donations to progressive causes. Now, let's say someone on my gift list wants a book. I can buy it from a local bookstore for the $28 list price, or I can order it from Amazon for $18 and donate the $10 savings to charity. Which has more impact? [more inside]
