An old friend put out her first book, and I want to pre-order it, but I also want to help it "pop." If I buy the Kindle Edition instead of the hardcover, will it still maximally count for the popularity trackers like NYTimes bestsellers and Amazon Best Of, or whatever? Or is that too "new media"?

Help us identify an illustrated children's book involving people on a ship, the invention of pretzels, and piranhas - probably from the late 70s or early 80s. [more inside]

I'm currently working on a research project that will lead to a written product (an article or report, either published in a magazine/journal, or released online). I want to create an appendix to the report that has the names and descriptions for books referenced in the report. This will be an extensive list, so I don't want to create the descriptions myself. Can I use the product description that is put out by the publisher (the one that is used by Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other book sellers)? If not, what are my options?

Amazon book sales tracking: are there any sales rank trackers that break down amazon sales by geographic location, not just countries but specific regions, i.e. states, zip codes, etc.?

How would you go about packaging an existing, published book (with an ISBN) with an existing movie on DVD (without a UPC) for sale as a single item on Amazon and elsewhere? [more inside]

I need to know which book-related web service/API is best (most complete archive, most up-to-date, most metadata) for looking up information about books given an ISBN-10 or ISBN-13. [more inside]

What is a "Remander Mark"? I recently purchased a book on Amazon.ca and paid a ridiculously low price for a book with a Remander Mark. Now looking at the book the only thing I can see is someone made a line with a marker through the UPC code.
