I may be on the lookout for a new residence soon, and I'm open to alternatives to the usual apartment/house rental. In particular, living in an RV or camper trailer parked on the street outside of a friend's house (or in their driveway if long-term parking on the street is illegal) seems doable. And fun. And possible (I asked). What's it like?

It's an old cry now - to get out of Google's claws. Mail, calendar and everything.
However, I always find one thing missing.
Chat is never talked about. As a matter of fact this one is the difficult most. You need to have added all those chat contacts and they in turn have had to added you(approved) you back, unlike email where you just need to fine an email and the receiver gets it unless you were specifically blocked.
So, let's discuss how to release our chatting app/service free from the claws of Google/Facebook/Skype &c and still be able to:

I've been very disappointed with my doctor--she's obviously rushed and makes simple mistakes (like writing me a prescription for an over-the-counter medicine, telling me I need bloodwork but then not testing for the things she said she was going to, etc). I've also felt on several occasions that she didn't really listen to what I was saying to her.
I'm thinking of joining
this concierge medical center but I wanted to hear other people's experiences with this form of health care first.

Currently, my workflow involves scouring Google Reader, Google News, Google Alerts, and some specialized newsletters. I'd like to automate this more. Sadly, I'm struggling to find good tools to make the process easier. What does MeFi recommend?

I'm paying too much for cable TV that I don't watch, and I am fortunate to have good broadband internet (both from Comcast in the US). There are only a few events my family and I care enough about seeing immediately on TV. The Tour de France and major league baseball are both usually available via internet subscription services. But what about the 2012 Olympics?

My daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis 2 years ago, wore the boston brace for a year, but her curve had progressed to 50 degrees, which is the number to be operable. I would like to hear from people who had (or had their child) go thru surgery, or tried other alternative methods, like the Clear method. How is it living years after surgery, its success, or the success of Clear method or any other treatment? The idea of spine surgery for my child is overwhelming and scary and I would like any input from people and parents who experienced or are experiencing thru it. Thank you.

I'm trying to rank some non-proper poker hands within the conventional poker hand-ranking framework. I would like to rank them conventionally, i.e. on their probability of occurring in a straight, five-card deal.
The non-proper hands are:
(1) "Four-card straight" (four cards in a row);
(2) "Four-card flush" (four cards of the same suit);
(3) "Four-card straight flush" (four cards in a row of the same suit);
(4) "Same-color flush" (all 5 red cards or all 5 black cards);
(5) "Straight same-color flush" (a straight composed of all black cards or all red cards);
(6) "Four-card straight same-color flush" (a four-card straight composed of all black cards or all red cards).
My probability skills are "OK" (the odds for the four-card flush and same-color flush are straightforward), but some of them (particularly the straights) seem too tricky for me.

Family dog has cancerous lump on leg, vet says surgery might be enough to cure it (20% chance of recurrence). So what can we do to 1) help minimize the stress of surgery and 2) strengthen his immune system and general health, to increase his odds? So far I've gotten "all raw foods" and "no corn or soy it's all GMO" but neither of these folks actually have dogs. I'd like to hear from the dog-owning hivemind about this.
