Allergy filter: I have year-round allergies. Loratadine works wonders for me, but I develop an immunity in about a month or so. Which other non-drowsy antihistamines would you recommend?

I need to travel from Boston, MA to Detroit, MI to visit my family this Christmas break. I'm faced with three options - fly, bus, or drive. I have a severe peanut allergy, so I'm trying to choose the safest option for me (with a preference for shorter travel times). In particular, how safe might Greyhound bus and United Airlines be for the peanut-allergic? Fellow allergics, would wearing a surgical mask help? Personal stories welcome.

I have had an issue with a bumpy, red, ITCHY rash for the last 7 years when I use certain anti-perspirants/deodorants, and have been changing them up to fix the rash. I am asking for your help because the rash is back, I am clean out of ideas and am holding off the rash only slightly right now. Sorry for the long post, details inside.

Hello fellow Metafilterians, now that allergy season is upon us, does anyone recommend the best OTC med for: pressure on the eyes, chest congestion, stuffy nose, and sore throat? It's much worse in the morning. Coughing up yellow awfulness (sorry, gross). Claritin and Mucinex-D do NOT work. Sudafed works like a charm but knocks me out, literally for 2 days. Not sure what's out there, haven't had allergies in a couple of years.

Sometimes when I drink alcohol I get sort of an allergic reaction: skin rash (red spots on my face and shoulders) that feels a bit itchy. The first time that happened was about 2 years ago (never had that before and I'm 29 now) and now it occurs about every tenth (or so) time I drink hard liquor. It hardly ever occurs with beer or wine and it doesn't seem to be related to a certain ingredient (it happens with vodka as well as with Campari). Plus it doesn't seem to be related to the quantity of alcohol ingested. Maybe the cause is a certain kind of food in combination with alcohol? I haven't done enough "tests" to find out more.
What could that be and need I be worried?

My new roommate has been sneezing since he got here, and I think it may be the dust/dust mites that's bothering him. I suspect the inherited mattress he's using may be harboring them, although it's otherwise perfectly fine. So: recommendations for a good mattress cover that will keep in the allergens, isn't weird and crinkly and won't destroy our tiny budget? (More info and further allergy inquiries behind the cut)

Should I be worried about this? I went to the doctor this morning to get checked out for cold/flu symptoms; I didn't think it was serious -- I just wanted to check that I didn't have H1N1, but the doctor told me that the treatment I'd been getting for prostatitis was "highly unusual for someone in their 20s", and he said I should immediately stop taking the antibiotic I'm on (Septra/Bactrim) because I might be having an allergic reaction to it, or possibly an autoimmune reaction.

Roommate purchased a new Japanese tatami bed this weekend. He woke up with one of the worst allergic reactions in his life. He didn't think about it until afterwards, obviously, but he's highly allergic to the hay material the tatami is crafted out of. Help me brainstorm ideas to resolve the issue.
