I'm on a low carbohydrate diet and I love cocktails, so I'm trying to figure out the best was to make a simple syrup replacement that tastes decent and has an ok mouth feel. Have you got a go to recipe that doesn't crystallize or have some funky aftertaste?

I am at home visiting family this weekend, I’ll be back at the rented house I share with my boyfriend of 6 years in less than 24 hours. I've often heard the claim that vodka is required by law to be "tasteless, odorless, and colorless". Even Alton Brown, who I usually trust on these matters,
makes the claim. This claim is often taken to mean that it doesn't matter what brand of vodka you buy - it's all exactly the same (Alton says this as well). How can this possibly be true? Anyone who's ever opened a bottle of vodka knows it has an obvious smell, with words like "paint thinner" describing it. Others will tell you that this just means you're buying cheap vodka, but according to the supposed law, it's all the same! Please help me get set straight. Is there a law or not?

YANML: I'm 25 years and 30 days old. I'm at a bar crawl in Pittsburgh. I just got denied entry to a bar on Carson St because my Ohio license is expired by 30 days.
What is the Pennsylvania law for a bar regarding alcohol service for a 25 year old with an expired ID? I.E. how can I avoid getting blocked for the rest of the evening?
Things to consider: Grace period for expired license, possessing multiple credit cards in my name (to verify identity) and obviously over the age of 21 based on physical appearance.

Sometimes when I drink alcohol I get sort of an allergic reaction: skin rash (red spots on my face and shoulders) that feels a bit itchy. The first time that happened was about 2 years ago (never had that before and I'm 29 now) and now it occurs about every tenth (or so) time I drink hard liquor. It hardly ever occurs with beer or wine and it doesn't seem to be related to a certain ingredient (it happens with vodka as well as with Campari). Plus it doesn't seem to be related to the quantity of alcohol ingested. Maybe the cause is a certain kind of food in combination with alcohol? I haven't done enough "tests" to find out more.
What could that be and need I be worried?
