I like to listen to albums and playlists from my music collection on my iPhone. I don't need a streaming service, or radio, or recommendations, or social networks. I just want a simple user interface that lets me pick out an album (or maybe a playlist) and listen to it. Does such a thing exist for iOS? The built-in music app has gotten way too complicated, and does not work well for me or my family. [more inside]
I'd like to find a pretty way to preserva all sorts of lovely cards/notes/etc. from our wedding. Difficulty level: so not crafty! [more inside]
My mom has inherited my dad's 2,000 record albums, most of which are movie soundtracks. She is trying to decide whether to sell them or donate them, and step one is sorting and cataloging. They're not in any order. Is there some good way of alphabetizing them where they live, in a small room without lots of floor space to make piles? [more inside]
Boston's eponymous first album was 8 tracks long. Every single track on that album received (and still receives, on classic rock stations) significant airplay. Are there other albums about which this can be said? [more inside]
I recently discovered that I have access to Sony's Freegal music download service via my local library, but my limit is five tracks a week. Since I prefer to get full albums, I'm wondering what your favorite albums are with five tracks or fewer. So far I have Miles Davis' Agharta but that's it. I'm a fan of jazz and rock.
Recently I've been all about Sam Cooke's Live at the Harlem Square Club, Etta James Rocks the House, and James Brown Live at the Apollo. Can you recommend other live soul or R&B recordings that have the same kind of raw energy?
I have inherited over 70 old record albums, many 78's. They are mainly a mix of Yiddish and Hebrew songs and spoken word. I have contacted The Idelsohn Society, but they do not have room in their cramped NYC office for this. There's a chance some of these have historic value, so I'd like to get them into good hands. Any ideas who to contact?
I have inherited a box of old photos and documents from my grandfather's house. Not sure what/how to best share and preserve them. [more inside]
Looking for a slick way to update the album artwork for a large (>150gb) music library on a PC. The key here is updating to HD album artwork. My smartphone has a really high res screen and most artwork looks awful on it. What's the easiest, most painless way to do this (for free!)? [more inside]

I have recently discovered that I really love the kind of music that is heartfelt, lyrically strong, with a wistful and melancholic vibe. The type that conjures up images of a world-weary cowgirl/boy (cowperson?) passing on words of wisdom as the sun sets in the distance... and I am looking for more! [more inside]
I have a seemingly never satiated appetite for new, interesting, original music. In the past when I've felt starved for something new, I've looked at the latest releases from record labels I trust that consistently put out exciting albums - think Thrill Jockey, Warp, Ipecac. What other labels should I be monitoring?
As a mini-resolution, I am going to take a month and listen to one new-to-me album every day. The genre is totally unimportant- I just want them to be good! [more inside]
I used to hear a song I liked, and if I really liked it I'd buy the album. But often that has left me feeling disappointed with the quality of the album as a whole. Sometimes all the songs sound the same and the song I liked is the best possible version of that song. Sometimes the other music on the album just doesn't have the feature(s) that made me love the first song I heard from it. So for a while I've only bought the song I liked, and maybe a few others that sound ok when I preview in iTunes. But I'd like to buy whole albums. Hivemind, what are the awesome albums, new or old, that bear listening all the way through, again and again?
Question about Itunes Match....I just got off the phone with an Apple Care Specialist, but I have some doubts of the answers I received as the gentlemen never truly came across as confident in any answers he gave me, as well as a lot of it contradicts stuff I have read by looking around online...Looking for confirmation and clarification... I just created a fan page for my photography. Naturally I'd like to add some photos but I can't seem to figure out how. If I click on photos, there's an album for the profile picture, but I can only change that photo; not add to it. There's no option to create a new album. Am I missing something? [more inside]

I'm looking for recommendations for jazz albums with a lineup similar to the one on Sonny Rollins's classic album The Bridge, which has tenor sax + guitar + bass + drums and that's it. (YouTube example.) I love how Jim Hall's guitar takes on the usual role of the piano since it's the only instrument in the ensemble that can play whole chords. [more inside]
