How can I have my alarm clock near my bed even though there's not enough room for a nightstand and I can't make holes in the wall for shelves? There's a chest of drawers on one side of the bed but it is too tall to reach the alarm clock from on top. The other side of the bed is bordering the wall. Are there shelves without permanent mounting hardware that work? I have a usable wall corner. Maybe a super duper skinny nightstand out there somewhere? Use the headboard somehow?

Every morning, my cat decides I need to get up at 6:30AM, and proceeds to put his paw under my door and claw the hell out of it. Between the scratching noise and the fact that the door rattles in its jamb, it's been getting me up well before I am ready. I'm having a bit harder time adjusting to winter in the pacific northwest than I initially thought I would. It's not the rain so much as the shorter days -- I find I really have a hard time getting out of bed in the mornings, even when I get a full 8 hours the night before. I'm investigating something like a progressive wake up alarm clock, which is supposed to simulate sunrise. Anyone used anything like this? Are they worth the $50? Is there someplace other than Hammacher-Schlemmer to pick one up?

I need help waking up! I sleep so soundly that I do not hear my alarm clock. This has been a problem for years. Currently, I use both the buzzer and radio options on my clock, plus I have a wake up service that calls twice in the morning. I don't hear any of it unless I've been sleeping at least six hours. I know that the obvious answer is to go to bed earlier, but that's not always an option for me. Can anyone recommend a really loud and obnoxious alarm clock?
