Where should I live in Akron?

My company is temporarily (6 months) assigning me to work in their Akron office beginning next week. I am staying in a hotel for a week or two but would like to find an unfurnished one bedroom apartment. What neighborhood(s) are recommended for a 30 year old single girl that likes the city life? I have never been to Ohio, I don't know anyone there, and Google/AskMe searches have not been much help, except for one thread that talked about places to eat. I have previously lived in Queen Village in Philly and Fells Point in Baltimore and loved both neighborhoods. Is there anything like this in Akron? My office is near the Akron Fulton Airport. My company pays my living expenses, so cost is not a problem.

Also, any recommendations on places to eat/drink/hang out would be greatly appreciated. And I love the outdoors so any fun activites would be great.

1917 Train Wreck In Akron Colorado

I would like to find some information about a train wreck that happened in or near Akron, Colorado on July 17th, 1917. Does anyone know how I can discover any additional details online? My 80+ year old grandmother lives in Akron, Colorado. The town just put up a marker on a large mass grave site in the town cemetary that reads "in memory of the unknown people who died in a train wreck on July 17, 1917". She is something of a western history buff and would like to know more about what happened. She has tried asking at the local newspaper, but apparently their archives were destroyed in a fire. She has also asked everyone she comes in contact with in town and no one seems to know any more information than what is printed on the marker.

The Denver Post only has online archives back to 1993. Older newspapers are available on microfilm in the Denver Public Library, but unfortunatley I live in Boston and a trip in to Colorado is not planned for the near future.

So, can anyone point me in the direction of additional resources that I might be able to search online?

Getting around in Ohio without a car.

I need help for a friend traveling to Athens, OH this week. Long story short- when he booked his flight from LA to OH, he chose Akron instead of Athens. d'oh! He just discovered this last night and he leaves in 2 days.

It is a three hour drive, so he can't count on his brother shuttling him around. Car rental is also out since he doesn't have a license. The Greyhound goes between them, but leave before his flight arrives on Day 1 of a four day trip, and he would need to ride back the day before, giving him only one solid day to visit. Amtrak was a similar circumstance. He looked up the cost of changing the flight or booking a hop from Akron to Columbus(a more manageable distance for a ride) and both were nearly $500, which he can't afford.

I don't know Ohio well enough to know if there is a Green Tortoise-type service or any other options that havn't occurred to us yet. Any mefiites have any ideas?

My wife and I are foodies. She travels for work frequently and tries to make the most of it by finding great food. Next week she has to go to Akron, OH. Anything from hole-in-the-wall to gourmet recommendations would be appreciated. Only restriction--local food only. No nationwide chains, please!
