What to do on a day-long layover in Dublin?

We have one day in Dublin on Friday (flight gets in at 8:30 am, have to be back at the airport by 5pm). Can we reasonably find interesting things to do in that time? Parks to walk through, a good place for a pub lunch (and World Cup watching?) or just interesting things to see in the vicinity such that we could get back to the airport in time would be great.

Getting from Boston Logan to Providence by rail

I'm traveling to E. Greenwich, RI for a wedding in September and it's about $60 cheaper per person to fly into Boston than to Providence (arrive Thursday 3 pm - depart 7 pm Monday) I don't really want to deal with the traffic driving from Boston to Providence so I'm looking into rail options but I can't make heads or tails of the MBTA schedule. 1) Can I pick up the Providence line at the airport or would I have to get a cab or bus to the train? 2) Can I take my luggage (probably two bags)? 3) Can I rent a car on arrival in Providence? 4) What will it cost?

Are you efficient, Switzerland?

Transport from Montgomery Co PA to Newark Airport

For upcoming international travel I booked a flight out of Newark for the lower cost. I anticipated having a ride but am now forced to deal with transportation to/from the airport. I'll be gone for just over two weeks and will leave and arrive back during normal business hours on weekdays. I live in Montgomery County PA and am looking for transportation options to Newark Airport. Some options include: - Suburban rail to center city Philadelphia, Amtrak to Newark - Suburban rail to trenton, train to Newark/bus to airport - driving - hiring a car service - shuttle So far it seems like all the public transit options are pretty cheap but a pain from where I live and given that I'll have luggage. Hiring a car service would be easiest but most expensive. I liked the option of the SuperTrans shuttle which could either pick me up at home or at a nearby hotel, but have read terrible yelp reviews on them. Anyone have experience getting to/from Newark that could be helpful here?

Help me fly alone with two small kids: airport gate pass edition

In the near future, I will be flying alone several times with a 3.5 year old and a 7 month old. Lucky me. On at least some occasions, I will have someone bringing us to the airport or meeting us on the other end. I hear it's theoretically possible for that person to obtain a gate pass, and help us get to the plane (or meet us when we get off). We'll be fine ON the plane, but having help in the airport would be a real sanity saver. I know that gate passes are not handed out like candy and generally require cause. Does this constitute cause? What are your experiences with requesting / obtaining / being refused gate passes? Does it help to call ahead? Who would you call? Bonus points if you can speak specifically to Chicago O'Hare, Atlanta Hartsfield, or Panama City, FL.

All my base stations belong to someone else

Lately when I turn on my Mac, it detects an Airport Extreme base station. I don't know where the station is; I don't have one and I don't know the password to the one being detected. The Airport Extreme is chosen instead of my home network for internet access, and even when I manually cancel it and choose my own network, I sometimes lose connectivity as the computer returns to the Airport Extreme as a default connection. Lately, this is also happening with a PC and a Kindle, making it hard on all devices to choose my home network and keep it as a default.

LED TV breaking Wifi Network

I have a wifi network on an Airport Extreme 802.11n, extended by several Airport Express (2008 model, MB321LL/A) base stations. My new Samsung LED TV, in a room about 20 feet from the Airport Extreme, takes down my entire network—I can't reach the internet anywhere in the house—until I shut down the TV and reboot the Extreme. Airport Express help!

I have an Airport Express base station - the older one not new (around 2009) version. Recently got a new iMac with with latest version of OSx and no longer see the the option under the sound button (top right corner of screen) to choose to either play with local speakers or speakers (or both) associated Airport Express base. When I go to settings - sound - output, I can see the the local speakers and the Airport Express but it says the selected device (Express) has no output controls. It used to be an option with any playback on any application. How to remedy? I can use my iphone (using iOS 6 not 7) to play on the airport express speakers. The only thing that seems to pickup the base is Itunes but other programs are not picking it up and I use Pandora, Spotify, Rhapsody, etc.. If I manually go in under the settings - sound - output I can click on Airport Express and it will play but not both sets of speakers. We like whole house music.

What is the name of this book that offers financial advice in a neat way

At the airport a while back, I stumbled onto this book written I think by the people at MSN Finance. The book was called something like "Do this or that?" and the arrangement was as follows. A question was posed such as "Should I rent or stay with my parents to save on rent?" and two colorful pages were devoted to explaining which option was better. Another such question was "Should I rent or buy" as well as "Should I pay monthly for a gym membership or pay everything at all once." Its structure was similar to what one saw in those "Eat This Not That Books" that are so popular among dieters. The book I am talking about is fairly new and probably pretty popular as it was one of the titles at this airport I visited a month ago. The book was in hardback and had lots of colorful pictures. San Francisco public transit from SFO to Nob Hill area?

I'm travelling to San Francisco today for a conference. It'll be my first time there, and I'd like to take public transit from the airport to my hotel - the Fairmont, on Mason St. It looks like I can take a train (BART?) from the airport to Powell St., Montgomery St., or Embarcadero, and walk from there. Is it reasonable to ride the train at 7 PM with a largeish rolling carryon bag and a backpack? Which station should I walk from, if I don't mind a bit of a walk but want to avoid overly-sketchy areas?

Can I show up to the airport and expect to find a cheap ticket?

I'm trying to avoid the insanely expensive "emergency" (bereavement) ticket prices for airfare. Is it feasible to just show up to a major airport like Chicago O'Hare without a ticket, and see what kind of cheap stand-by ticket I get? I'm assuming that airlines with an empty seat would want it filled at the last minute... I wouldn't mind waiting for hours at the airport for such a seat. Intended destination is Los Angeles or nearby.

Transfer time in LAX: Flying from Canada to Japan

We are flying from Toronto to LAX (on Air Canada) and then LAX to Tokyo (on United), with a layover in LAX of 95 minutes. Based on my research, I assume we will be passing from Terminal 2 to 7. We're both Canadian citizens, if that matters. I haven't seen anything definitive on this particular transfer, but based on other AskMefi LAX answers it seems a little unlikely this will work... Tips for 15 year-old negotiating long haul international travel alone

Yay! Our 15 year old nephew Sam is coming to visit us in Italy for three weeks during the school holidays. From Australia. Via Dubai, it's a 22 hour flight. Although he has to disembark and changes flights in Dubai, there is a relatively short hour and a half layover. He has only travelled internationally once before to Vietnam, and then not on his own. He is a great guy, however I want to ensure that he finds the whole experience as easy as possible. Any hints? Dubai is a wonderfully eclectic airport which will be an eye opener. As someone reasonably blasè about international travel and airport transfers, I am hoping to mine the hind mind for special hints that might help Sam in negotiating the flights, transfer and the clearing of customs and arrival in Rome? Thanks!

Cabin cats or cargo cats?

My wife and I are moving across the country in a few months with our furballs, Steve and Lola. We're going to fly with them, but I'm not sure if they would be better off with us in the cabin or in cargo. The trip is unavoidably going to involve two flights, the first one will be about 6 to 6:30 hours in length, the second will be 2 to 2:30 hours. The layover between them could be as short as an hour. So total travel time, including getting to/from the airports will probably be around 12-13 hours. [more inside]

iMac slows to a halt but everything other device/computer+ kitchen sink works??

My old PC laptop runs perfectly as do any tablets on my apt public wi-fi. The iMac computer (Snow Leopard), slows to a halt and won't get to pages after a few times. I have done several things such as reset PRAM, gone to /Library/Preferences and moved all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, and restarted Mac...The second bit helped for a week and now it is doing it again, no matter what browser. MacKeeper says the computer is alright, and airport utility just tells me I am connected to the internet. (I've done the reconnecting and assistant and diagnostics but nada...) I cannot figure this out and I have scoured the net. If somebody was downloading a ton on it, I would at least understand but any other devices work fine. My husband wants throw it out the window. Any ideas?

Do I have to go to Las Vegas or can I stop in Phoenix?

I have a round trip flight later this year on US Airways that has a layover in Phoenix and then continues to Las Vegas. It turns out that it would work out better for me to just leave the Phoenix airport instead of going on. My return flight would be unchanged ( leaving from Las Vegas ). If I do this ( intentionally miss the second hop of my flight ) will I have problems later? I'm concerned about the possibility that the airline might cancel my return flight or something else along those lines. If you have done this kind of thing (especially on US Airways) please let me know how things went. Thank you.

IPv6 help on Windows 7 with Airport router

After several years away from Windows, I built a PC with Windows 7 and I'm using it with an Airport Extreme router. On my wireless icon in the tray is a small yellow shield and when I right-click for status I see "IPv6 Connectivity: No network access." I'm getting slow speed tests on my new PC and I think this may be the cause of it. Otherwise, my status shows that my IPv4 has Internet, speed is 130Mbps, and my connection is at high strength. I'll have a long enough ethernet cable to test that out next week but I'd like to get my Wifi up to the speeds that my Macbook gets routinely. My wifi card is the Asus PCE-N15. My Airport has updated firmware, as does my PC wifi card. I'm on Comcast cable internet with a 30mbps tier. Thanks!

Wads of small bills at JFK Airport - how to change?

This past weekend I had a huge moving sale, and ended up with about $1500 in small bills ($1s, $5s, $10s, $20s). Between cleaning my apartment and packing everything up today, I forgot to go to the bank and deposit the money into my account. Tomorrow morning I fly out of JFK (Terminal 4, specifically) to move to San Francisco, and since my flight is early there's no time to go to a bank. I feel weird traveling with these huge wads of cash, especially as it's all small bills. Right now it's all stuffed into a cigar box in my carry-on. I don't think it will fit in my wallet. Will the currency exchange places give me $100s (or better yet a money order) for my cash, and will I find one before passing through security? Will TSA steal from me, or give me a hard time for carrying these wads of bills? Is there possibly a Bank of America branch in JFK? What should I do? I don't think I'm comfortable depositing this much cash through an ATM, and anyway it would take forever.
