Why do all (or at least, the vast majority) of flights between Sydney and the U.S. this July/August have layovers in China or Korea? How can I best go about finding a budget ticket that takes a more direct route?

I'm trying to find an old radio short called "White Trash Airlines" that I heard online in the early 90's. It was a parody of a United commercial and had the "Fly the friendly skies" tagline in it but I don't know where it came from or who made it. It was, however, very funny if you like hillbilly jokes. For those familiar with the Bangkok airport: On Wednesday morning, my flight from Koh Samui will land at 7:05 a.m. , and my flight from Bangkok to Taipei will take off at 8:25a.m. I'll have carry-on luggage only, and a Canadian passport. Will I have time to get from domestic arrivals to international departures in time to check in, get thru security and get on my Taipei flight? (They are two separate tickets.) Alternatively, will it be relatively easy to get on the later flight to Taipei if I miss the first? Its on China Airlines, I have no familiarity with their policies.

I can put 'flights from and to' in Google and it will bring a list up (nice) or go to the Airport wikipedia page (again nice) but I know they miss some things. Is there such a site?

What do I do with 15,000 American Airlines miles?
I have 120,000 British Airways miles - and the two airlines are part of the same network - but I don't think you can transfer miles between the two. I don't want to waste the 15,000 miles when they expire next year, but I don't see how I can use them.
I am not interested in using credit cards or travel to build the account up to the magic 25k mark.
Any ideas what I can do with the miles?

We booked a return international trip from city A to city C on Expedia (.au site). A subsequent email informed us it was ticketed as two separate tickets (due to incompatible airlines): city A -> city B, city B -> city C. Later, the B->C airline "changed" its flights by many hours, making the itinerary impossible to complete (by creating impossible connections). Expedia offers to arrange a refund only of the B->C connection. What can we do?
