I often find myself with an open weekend and an urge to fly to no place in particular, just to go exploring. Whether it's Sioux City, Billings, or Biloxi, I figure I can entertain myself anywhere for a weekend. Are there websites that allow you to search for cheap, last minute flights from a given origin, irrespective of destination? Most sites require you to enter a destination, which makes the whole process a lot more difficult.

Has anyone ever flown Zoom Airlines for a transatlantic (or other long) flight? I had never heard of them until recently, and the reviews online aren't very good. This is probably due to the fact that disgruntled people take it to the Internet, so I'd like to know of your experiences, good or bad. [more inside]

Is it possible to get an ultra-cheap roundtrip out of the DFW area to anywhere, just for the sake of flying? I have a nearly-4 year old son who would love a plane ride, but I haven't seen any truly cheap tickets since the Southwest Airlines "Peanut Fares" days. If not, I'll just wait for a real vacation to come up one day.

I flew with JetBlue last month. Some small items were missing from my luggage when I arrived at my destination. I am trying to figure out how far I want to go with this to try to 1) get reimbursed for lost/stolen items and 2) get them to make their legal documents reflect their actual policies. I'd like some advice from people who have dealt with airlines and their luggage policies to help me strategize. [more inside]

Tell me all you know about a career of an airline cabin-crew and how should I prepare for it's interview coming up next week? Apart from presentability, what other qualities do they look for? Also, I am way over-qualified for the job, and it's a industry-cum-profile shift for me which I don't mind, but how do I stop that being an impediment to my selection? [more inside]

What is the best way to schedule a trip with an extended layover? A friend is traveleing from the East Coast to New Zealand, and would like to stop over and see me (in San Francisco) for a few days. Most internet travel sites I have checked only offer single destination flights. Would she incur extra costs scheduling 2 separate flights? Would they be more than going through a travel agent?

I watch Airline on A & E a lot and a common problem is that people loose their ticket. The result is that if they want to fly they MUST BUY a new one. Bestfares.com. Scam or worthwhile deals? Does anybody have experience with bestfares.com? It's a $60 annual membership to get, ostensibly, below "sale" prices on lots of fares. And they look cheap. 'm most interested in airfares only (US + Int'l) and not in cruises, Vegas junkets, or hotels. Is it worth it? Any other hot ideas for actually getting cheap fares to, say, Europe?

Can I just leave the airport during a layover and miss my flight to the final destination without incurring penalities on the way back? I know the usual answer is no but my circumstances are a bit different - I'll still be returning from the city I'm supposed to finally arrive at. I'm going from San Fran to New Orleans via Dallas, then six days later from New Orleans to Los Angeles. I just got in touch with a friend I really want to see in the Dallas area and I'd like to just get off in Dallas on the way to New Orleans and spend a day there, then road trip to New Orleans and spend the rest of my vacation there, leaving from New Orleans like I should. Can I do this? I'm interested in why I can or can't since I'm curious, but practical answers would be most appreciated, especially on how I can get my luggage checked only to Dallas (I have to check a bag - don't tell me only use a carryon). What do I tell the desk attendant?

Travel prices question. I might have to take a sudden trip to Europe and the cheapest last minute airfares were all over $1,500. But there are also many hotel + flight package deals advertised for the same price or even less. How can this be? And as I've never done the package thing, is it a good way to go? Any hidden pitfalls?
