Boyfriend and I are flying out to Shanghai from New York City sometime late September or October.
Kayak's cheapest flights are on: China Eastern Airlines, Air China, Delta, and on occasion, Continental. Reviews for all seem pretty bleak. :( It's a good 14-20 hour flight; please help: Which airline is the best of the worst?

What are the days and times that have the best change of being bumped from a flight? I fly 3 or 4 times a year and am usually extremely flexible on what day (and time of day) I can book my flights, and it's usually not inconvenient for me at all if I can volunteer to be bumped to a later flight and get a $400 travel voucher.

I last flew in September and the price was 300 bucks for one way non-stop flight. Now, in April, it's 600 dollars for the non-stop, and the cheapest flight has a layover, AND is 80 (380) dollars more. Is there a reason for the large increase in flying costs these past 6 months?

As a way to visit a friend during my travels in Europe this summer, I'm looking to obtain a days-long layover - ideally at least 2-3 days, but the longer the better. I have no idea how to go about getting such a thing, but I'm relatively sure the possibility exists. What are my best options for getting a layover like this, while still keeping my overall flight cost low?

Let's say that traveler X would like to fly from city A to city B on American Airlines. The cost to fly from A to B is $500. X notices that a flight from A to C costs $300, and includes a layover in B. What, if any, are the negative consequences to X if he purchases the A to C itinerary, carries his bags on the flight, and leaves the airport after arriving at B, never to complete the B - C leg?

I'm flying from the east coast to southern California via San Francisco in a few weeks. I've decided that for the return trip, I'd like to drive up to San Francisco a few days early, skip the first leg of my return flight (SoCal to SFO), and just catch the second leg. (I would just rebook my ticket but the change fee is ludicrous -- well in excess of the entire ticket cost.) Is this a dumb idea?
