Regular Floor Fan Filter: My wife swears that it's best to use a fan to "suck the hot air out of the room" first before turning the fan around to draw in the cooler evening air. I say the only hot air in the room is...well, help us figure this out! [more inside]

When I turn on my air conditioning in my car (or any source of air; like the heat, etc.) I can hear a flapping sound, like a plastic bag or something. I'm wondering if anyone knows what that might be caused by, how to fix, where to look, or who to ask. Thanks!

My brother is taking a cheap flight from England to visit us in Seattle, which has a stop in Vancouver (YVR) for six hours. Is there anything taht can be done within that time that's worth doing? Would it actually be possible to get out of the airport? Or should I just tell him to bring a book?

I have a 1999 Volvo S70. I was driving yesterday when foul smelling steam started coming out of the air conditioning vents and also from underneath the ashtray. My coolant level was very low (the reservoir was empty), and I added a whole gallon of coolant but it did not stay in the reservoir. Is my coolant pooling somewhere bad or do I just need to add more? Also is it possible to remove a fuse or something so my air conditioning won't turn on at all until I can take it in to get fixed? As it is now, steam starts coming out of the vents after about five minutes of driving. [more inside]

Our home A/C unit is dying. What next?
The other day we came home and our house was 86 inside even though we had the therm set for 75. We called our normal a/c guy and and he came out and said that the main unit which normally holds 6 pounds of freon, only had 2 in it. He suspects a leak in the main coil. [more inside]

Has anyone ever flown Zoom Airlines for a transatlantic (or other long) flight? I had never heard of them until recently, and the reviews online aren't very good. This is probably due to the fact that disgruntled people take it to the Internet, so I'd like to know of your experiences, good or bad. [more inside]

Not to start a fight but I am curious about this one...If the entire atmosphere is 100% and nitrogen is 89% and the inert gases are 0.9% and the rest is the O2 we breathe and more and more CO2 is being made [carbon burning made that is] from that O2 and not going back out of the system as released O2 will we see a drop in the amount of O2 we have to breathe?
Does the actual % of the various gases get checked on by anyone?
And would we see it first decline at higher altitudes or in the deaths of animals who need more O2 for their specific needs..........which ones are the mine canaries here?

Hi, folks! I'd just like to ask, out of curiosity, which wind instruments (especially brass) require the least effort and wind. I want to put tennis balls in a tank/bag that I can pressurize to about ~20-30 psi (perhaps more). Do you know where I can find such a tank(or what it would be called) for a reasonable price (less than $50) ? It should be able to hold at least 30 balls.
Used would be fine.

I have a 2003 Jetta with around 75,000 miles. It is hot here, and I have been running the air conditioning nearly every day for the past month or two, and I have noticed some strange occurrences. First, if I am parked with the A/C running, even for a short amount of time, the car seems to vibrate rather forcefully. In addition, when I pull away from the parking spot, there is always a fairly large pool of water where my car was. Also, when I am driving fast, say 60-75 mph, and I change the speed of the A/C from high to low, there is a noticeable jerk in my acceleration. It is most unusual... [more inside]

What is an affordable air compressor and spray gun combination? I'm not sure about how powerful a compressor I'll need. Also, I'm planning on keeping it down the basement and running the hose up through the floor. Is there a way to turn the compressor on and off without having to venture downstairs? (I'm in an apartment and the basement door is outside) I've seen things that allow you to shut off lights with a remote control. Maybe something similar to that? [more inside]

Last spring my husband and I noticed that a small puddle of water would form on the garage floor every time we used our central a/c for more than a few minutes. We had a local a/c guy come out and he told us the pan was leaking and needed to be replaced. He quoted us around $2,000 which I thought was extremely high considering he'd done the exact same job a year previously for our neighbor (who has the same model house and, incidentally, recommended this company) for $400.
