I've been offered a new contract/consulting job where I would be paid not by the hour or for a specific deliverable, but at a flat weekly rate. Under this arrangement, how might I make intellectual property distinctions between works that will belong to this client, and outside works I may do for myself or others? [more inside]

The owner of the privately held company that I work for has decided that he wants to give out equity in the company to a select number of employees. This isn't hugely valuable right now but could potential be extremely valuable if the company were to ever go public. I have been selected to be a part of this group as I am an Officer of the company. My share would be worth $5000 currently. Portfolio Confidentiality

I'm applying for a job with an industrial design firm which requires a portfolio. Some of my best work is part of a project which is in the process of being patented (but has not been filed for yet), so I'm unsure how to handle it. It seems excessive and limiting (and maybe rude?) to ask for an NDA from a potential employer, but I don't feel completely comfortable sending this information out. Anyone have any suggestions or experience in this area?
