Can I sell an easement on my property?

My property's title has an easement onto my neighbor's property for a right of way through the neighbor's property to my property. I don't need this easement to get into my property, although I do occasionally use it. My neighbor's property has been purchased by developers and they would like to buy back the easement (pay me to extinguish the easement) in order to develop across the easement. This seems straight-forward, but selling a portion of my property would seem to violate my mortgage agreement. Would it? [more inside]

Home management company doesn't want to fix clothes dryer

Wondering about the best way to navigate this situation: I rented a house unfurnished with the exception of a washer/dryer, refrigerator, and microwave which were included "as-is". The clothes dryer has never been all that great, but it seems to be dying. I'll put in a load, expect it to have been completed, but then come back to find them damp ( and with that awful damp smell in the clothes ) and have to send it through the wash again. ( and then through the dryer twice ). Its costs me time and electricity. [more inside]

Are pre-nuptual agreements useless in Ontario (Canada)?

We'll be getting married this summer. My fiance and I are very excited about this. I have some background in financial planning, and she's very savvy financially herself. I have always understood that's a good idea to have a pre-nuptual agreement to cover division of assets, care of possible future children, and so on. This is just to cover our bases ahead of time. A lawyer we just called told us not to bother with it at all, and that pre-nuptual agreements are useless in Ontario, Canada. Is this true? [more inside]

Should I sign without reading first?

The owner of the privately held company that I work for has decided that he wants to give out equity in the company to a select number of employees. This isn't hugely valuable right now but could potential be extremely valuable if the company were to ever go public. I have been selected to be a part of this group as I am an Officer of the company. My share would be worth $5000 currently. I get a certificate, etc. The point of all this is to have employees personally invested in the company to affect the way they conduct themselves based on that personal investment rather than working for someone else's money they are working for their own. How can I show my work without risking the patent?

Portfolio Confidentiality

I'm applying for a job with an industrial design firm which requires a portfolio. Some of my best work is part of a project which is in the process of being patented (but has not been filed for yet), so I'm unsure how to handle it. It seems excessive and limiting (and maybe rude?) to ask for an NDA from a potential employer, but I don't feel completely comfortable sending this information out. Anyone have any suggestions or experience in this area?
