Someone I know is an amazingly talented photographer; he does portraits with an old camera, it is awesome. His whole image is really "marketable". he has lots of totally great ideas. however, he needs help getting and organizing gigs. he wants to hire someone to be a sort of agent, do bookings and endorsements and other business-stuff so he can focus on the creative stuff, which he is good at, instead of the business stuff, which, um, he's not. what kind of person (or, who specifically) does he need to hire? My wife and I are starting the home-buying process, and we'd like a good buyer's agent to help us find a place. After polling friends, family, and co-workers, though, it turns out nobody we know has a real estate agent in our area they can recommend. There's hundreds of agents around here; what can we do to help narrow down a search? [more inside]
Is there a business/service I can hire to help research somewhat complicated airline travel purchases? Like if I'm looking at a multi-city itinerary with some flexibility on specific cities and dates, using a combination of cash and existing miles and transferable points from various credit cards, looking for business/first upgrades or fares, etc? I am coming up short trying to comprehensively figure out my choices using kayak and airline web sites and so on and would gladly pay for an expert to do it for me. Are travel agents still a thing?
I remember it was something about how self-doubt is the deadliest emotion, and most secret agents were young men because old men worry too much. I can't find it via Google and I forget which Bond novel it was from. Anyone remember this? Thanks!
I assumed it was Southern California but a lot of places that used to have them, don't any longer. I assume due to the rising value of the real estate. So where are the most bungalow houses per capital in terms of areas or cities?
Submitted for your consideration: Two photographs of the same place- in 1974 and 2014. [more inside]
I have worked for the federal government for five years (2 on Capitol Hill and 3 in SLC) and also for a well respected local nonprofit here in Salt Lake City, UT for the past two years. I'm Associate Director and things are good. However, unless I become Exec. Director there isn't much upward mobility. Plus, I wrote another question earlier this year about avoiding burnout, which is a problem with nonprofits, long hours, small staffs, etc. What I'm saying is I can't see working in the nonprofit world long term. I don't really see myself transferring to another nonprofit in town either. [more inside]

We're thinking seriously about buying a place in Manhattan (and possibly Brooklyn). We have a fairly unique split search (one strand of which is focused on looking for a place that will lower our costs, and the other strand of which is focused on finding a place that might increase our costs a little bit). We need recommendations for honest, intelligent, and very capable real estate agents to help. [more inside]
Howdy! We're relocating from New York City to London at the end of this year, and of course we're taking our cat Olive with us. What we're having a little bit of a hard time with is figuring out just *how* to bring her, and we're hoping you can help us. [more inside]
So, I finished the first draft of a TV spec script this week. I checked to see if the show even looks at spec scripts (it does) and I got a bunch of scripts off the show to study the style and length, etc. Now what?* The only writing gigs I've gotten before have either been people coming to me, self-publishing, or people with their own agents bringing me in as part of a package deal. My only experience with the slush pile is cartoon selling (and I've done well there in so far as you can). I don't have representation of my own. After the writing part of writing is done, how does the selling part go - at least for US TV? [more inside]

Usually designers and (to a greater degree, artists) are represented by agents who take care of all the administrative/legislative issues. However, for those who manage their own freelance businesses, it is imperative that they have their own business documents (project questionnaires, proposals, quotations, contracts, invoices, ..). I am interested in mapping out all the needed documents in the process of a project, from the moment the client contacts the designer/artist to the moment the project is submitted and the payments are made. Where can I find some comprehensive/reliable resources for such documents?
I am working on a list since 2004 that I think would be salable. It's publicly available contact information for radio, TV, magazines, syndicates, newspapers, book publishers and agents. I'm a freelancer and I originally started it because I wanted to be able to reach these sources to interest them in my content. But I realized it could be a product. [more inside]
I'm starting the process of selling my house. It turns out that one bedroom is not actually large enough to be a legal bedroom in this state --- it is 60 sq ft and the minimum in NY is 70. So apparently mine is a two bedroom house instead of a three bedroom. When I bought the house, it was officially represented as three bedrooms. Do I have any recourse? [more inside]
Our current homeowners policy is being changed because the company no longer does business in our state. Our agent has come up with another company that is not a national company. It only underwrites in several states on the east coast. I looked up their financials and they seem to be good but I’m no expert. It also is rated with Demotech which I understand to a paid rating company. [more inside]
I'm a late-twenties adult finishing my BA a little late. I'm still a little unsure as to what I'd like to do, but I've always had an interest in solving crimes. What are my options for doing this as a career, preferably NOT for a local police department, at least in the long term? [more inside]

An agent from a very large, well-established literary agency contacted me to say he liked my self-pubbed sci-fi, that he'd seen all the glowing reader reviews, and to ask about my future plans and if I had taken on representation. I answered those questions directly (plans for new books and no, I don't have representation). Presuming he writes back... what do I need to know? [more inside]
