Why did dairy products suddenly start giving me a horrible aftertaste? [more inside]

I have read online that Xylitol is a sugar substitute that has absolutely no aftertaste and yet if I chew gum with Xylitol I get a very distinct garlicky taste in my mouth. Is it just me?

I'm looking for recommendations for a personal lubricant that can safely be ingested, and most importantly, is tasteless and *truly* has no aftertaste. I've wasted all my money...
