Aftershave suggestions?

Please help me replace my dearly beloved discontinued aftershave. For some time I have used Burt's Bees Bay Rum Aftershave. It is an alcohol-based balm which is highly moisturizing and scented with essential oils. Apparently, I didn't buy enough of it while it was available and now the manufacturer has discontinued it. I know that it is still possible to find a few bottles still in stock (i.e. here) or on eBay with rapidly escalating prices. This would serve for only as long as it would take to drain the next bottle, and then I find myself in the same situation again.
So, I am soliciting suggestions from the shaving public here. For reference purposes, I have fair skin and an extremely tough dark beard. I shave daily with a double-edged safety razor using Trumper's sandalwood shaving cream. I am looking for an alcohol based balm aftershave which will not turn sticky, dry my skin out, or make matters worse than they already are. I have tried many drugstore brands, but find them lacking. I have no problem with buying a more exotic variety (hence Trumper's) but I am hesitant to spend $30 on a bottle of something obscure and continental just to find it smells like Old Spice and doesn't work right.
Your assistance is appreciated.

Summer mens fragrance in a blue bottle

What men's fragrance comes in a tallish bottle (not squat), is blue and smells quite light, but very classy? I know this sounds a bit metro, but some bloke had it in the changing room, and I want to get some. It smells quite summery and daytimey, but very classy and well balanced. I remember the bottle was quite tall and slim, not a stubby one. It was an older guy so the scent might have been around for a while.

How do I choose a scent for myself?

How do I choose a scent/aftershave for myself? As a 26 year old man, I've never been into 'smellies' before, just wearing anti-perspirant. Having recently split with my long-term girlfriend I've discovered that I'm in a very different world socially, and it's left me feeling a little unsophisticated.

I'm doing the new wardrobe, etc. thing but not having bought this kind of thing before, I'm worried if I just go and buy what smells nice to me it's going to clash with my 'style', or something.

Are there any rules to follow when choosing?

Smooth like a baby's butt...

So I've got the razor and the brush, and I'm sold. But what about all those other shaving products? Blades? Creams? Soaps? After shave? Anyone have a good recommendation? Ok, I read about DE razors on ask and after doing a bit more research decided what the hell, I'd just gotten a raise, let's go spend some money on what would probably be a goof. Oh man, was that a good move. I've only used the thing a few times now and I'm totally sold. Goodbye mach 3, goodbye canned shaving cream, probably goodbye faithful seabreeze aftershave, but oh my, there's a whole world out there. What to try next?

On the blade front I've got some Merkur DE blades, but I suspect I'd prefer a slightly cheaper blade I can throw out after a shave or two. You can get wilkonson swords and personnas fairly cheap on the web. Any good? I've also been looking for carbon steel blades, but I don't see anything out there, anyone know if I'm insane for even thinking it?

As for shaving creams/soaps. Oh my there seems to be a lot. And I suspect they last a long time, and I'd feel guilty buying stuff I end up giving up on after a few tries.

And last but not least, aftershave. I've never been a fan of stinky men's aftershaves. Old spice and the like all smell like ass. I don't like colognes, I don't like musk, I just want something that combats razor burn and makes my face feel smooth.

Anyone got some favorites?

Shaving Your Head

Shave your head? What do you put on your scalp afterwards? Ordinarily I swab with alcohol, to prevent infection and stave off unsightly breakouts. This dries out the skin, which I don't ordinarily mind too much, but as the summer wears on, it's becoming increasingly impossible to leave the house without a hat--much more uncomfortable. I'm wary of ordinary mosturizing lotions which may clog pores or irritate small razor cuts; I've idly browsed the beauty aisles for a product aimed at this niche without success. Anybody?
